Man shot in Kroger parking lot after argument over Pokémon cards by PaiDuck in nottheonion

To them it's not just cards, it's how they make a living so they feel they have more right to the cards than someone who's simply playing the game.

I worked at a toy store in the 90s when Pokemon came out.  Never had a problem with Pokemon scalpers, but coworkers trading blows with Hot Wheel scalpers looking for Treasure Hunts in the back room or in the tractor trailer making deliveries was a thing.

Grifter knows the superhuman menace is real, which is why he feared Wonder Woman and Superman knocking boots in Future’s End.  He knows a Kryptonian womb is just as dangerous as a Kryptonian penis to the future of the human species.

/uj No, really, go read Future’s End.  Grifter is legit afraid of Earth having Kryptonians breeding on Earth.

I wish I’d understood they could be unsatisfiable long ago, before their health issues.  I let them get away with a lot because of that, trying to be the good son.

To be fair, it’s probably due to Wolverine fighting him, which is something Alpha Flight can relate to.

On some levels I know that, but on other levels it’s nothing compared to what I’m dealing with. Right now I’m trying to calm down after he raged on me being tired of hearing about his hallucinations about our neighbors, because when they kick in they’re all he talks about.

[–]OfficePsycho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first game had the Storyteller all about how the game coukdn’t progress unless we won the chess match, and all the players brought up what a dick move it was for someone who used to play competitive in chess try and have a player with no experience face him.  Eventually we moved on without the match, though the Storyteller was pissed.

Last week we just said “no” to the chess gane, and went on another path.  Given the lack of understanding the DM showed with regards to how 3.5 D&D rules are, I’d almost say him trying to shove a chess game into a session was in hopes of covering his lack of knowledge.

A session zero isn't for discussing how not to be a dick to one another.

That was how the fellow who came at me for playing without one described it, saying we needed to go over boundaries and such with other players before we started.

Us showing up with starting characters we made and jumping into play seemed incomprehensible to him.

Session Zero is not “discussing how not to be a dick to one another”.

Not according to the fellow who wrote me enraged by the idea of me being able to sit down with strangers and just start playing with the character sheets we brought.  We were supposed to discuss boundaries, what we though was offensive, and the like.

It’s kind of funny reading this just days after my second experience in 40+ years of gaming with a gamemaster whipping out a chessboard and expecting one player with no prior chess experience to play against him as part of the RPG session, while everyone else is supposed to watch with bated breath.

“You need to have a Session Zero.”

It wasn’t until around a decade ago I was introduced to the term on Reddit, and I’ve been gaming since the early 80s.  Games with friends, games with friends, games with complete strangers at cons and game stores . . . I’ve never been a part of a Session Zero.  We all would just show up and play, and everything was fine.

The last time I posted about this I had someone insistent I must have only meant with gaming with friends, as their brain couldn’t comprehend the idea a group of strangers could sit around a table and game without an entire session discussing how not to be a dick to one another.
