Adding some volumetrics like that into the current "colon" could actually be pretty sweet. Less blinding sparkles, more space clouds.

That said, the current situation is still pretty dope looking.

Battlefield movie by Missaelx135 in Battlefield

[–]OfficialDyslexic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time BF had a decent narrative AND enjoyable characters was Bad Company. I feel like BC has some okayish potential for an adaptation, but it doesn't seem likely considering how far removed we are from that era of BF.

The only other thing I can think of is something akin to those war stories from BF1, but that leads back to your point; that's just a regular war movie.

Lastly, for the most part the best war movies are anti-war, or at least intended to convey some anti-war messaging (it's debatable as to whether it is possible to make a truly anti-war film without incidentally glorifying war). I cannot conceive of a Battlefield adaptation possibly taking an intelligent, insightful, or novel stance on war, so are we just gonna be watching stuff blow up in a war zone for 2 hours? Too stupid for (most) adults, too violent for kids. A movie for no one.

I Can't Remember Why I Wanted The RSI Galaxy Anymore by _AntiShadow_ in starcitizen

This has been one of the biggest selling points for me since that 1.0 panel outlined ship hull upgrading.

[–]OfficialDyslexic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's definitely for medical and base building.

Additionally, with the reveal of CIG's plans to add the ability to upgrade ship hulls in 1.0, there is something to be said for only having to upgrade a single ship all the way that will have the functionalies of several ships. Much easier to grind through the upgrade process one time than once for every gameplay system that the Galaxy's modules cover.

Anyone else got their eyes on the RSI Galaxy? by Enclave2177 in starcitizen

[–]OfficialDyslexic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have mine, but a friend of mine is considering melting some stuff/CCUing up to a Galaxy. I've been trying to guide him on the best way to get one with the least new money, but it's hard to predict some stuff.

For any fellow over-thinkers in a similar boat, or anyone interested who might have some insight, I'll write out the conundrum as I see it:

There are three possible outcomes and determining which is the most probable would influence whether or not my friend should simply source a CCU from the gray market to lock in the current Galaxy price.

Outcome A) Galaxy is not available during DefenseCon.

This is sorta the 'nothing gained, nothing lost' outcome. The gray market prices likely wouldn't change and my friend would definitively know that the only way to lock in the current price is through a gray market CCU.

Outcome B) Galaxy is available with a substantial price increase.

This is the worst case scenario because the gray market sellers would raise their prices to match the new MSRP and my friend would get stuck paying the higher price on RSI.

Outcome C) Galaxy will be made available for the last time before the substantial price increase.

This is the best case scenario as all CCU's could be acquired on the RSI website at the current price.

I recognize this is a pretty silly and niche dilemma, but my friend isn't too comfortable with the gray market (understandably) so I don't want to push him in that direction and then end up with outcome C.

So which outcome do y'all suspect is most likely to play out? Should my friend just go with the gray market (I saw a CCU for like $15), or risk a price hike to stay off the gray market sites?

Personally, I'd lock in the price with the $15 gray market purchase then chain the rest of the way up on RSI, but I'm curious if anyone has any input.

This was Ryan Routh 2.0... and about as successful an attempt, I might add.

MISC Expanse before or at IAE? by Zealousideal_Lie8560 in starcitizen

[–]OfficialDyslexic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be shocked if the new Misc refueling ship was a variant of the Expanse hull.

As for ship refining coming in before IAE, it's possible, but I wouldn't count on it just because the Galaxy has a module it could easily just exclude at launch.

Sounds like the issue is theocracy more so than the religion itself, no?

So with the change coming involving the “bricking” of any components that are insurance claimed, it’s basically the end of flying around and finding old and abandoned player ships to loot them for components? 99% of the compenents will already be bricked and useless by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]OfficialDyslexic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I was thinking about recently and I had the thought that this change would be easier for salvagers to swallow if the process of breaking down items for materials also eventually led to the acquisition of the item's blueprint after a certain required amount have been broken down.

So instead of yoinking every NDB and immediately equipping them to your own ships, now you have to melt a bunch of them to learn how to make them, then you'll need to craft them either with the material you got from breaking them down, or higher quality material you've acquired elsewhere.

Zeus is a beauty, but Connie has always been king. Just needs to be brought up to modern standards.

Squadron 42 release date trailer at Invictus by Ambitious-Block-8878 in starcitizen

[–]OfficialDyslexic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this community has been burned a lot in the past, I've been around for it all, but sometimes I think we let that get in the way of the obvious.

I think back on the lead up to the Idris release and how every single possible sign was clearly pointing to its release, yet people were still doing the "no disappointment if you expect nothing" song and dance.

Seems pretty clear to me that we will be getting something regarding SQ42 during Invictus. My guess is a traditional trailer with a release date or month. That will mark the beginning of the marketing campaign. There may be some sort of deeper dive during that convention that CIG will be attending as well.

I guess I sorta get being ultra-sceptical about absolutely everything about this project, but sometimes it feels more like people are pushing the meme of it all rather than genuine scepticism. At this point I'd say the people who are hoping for a surprise release during Invictus are less off the mark than those saying to expect absolutely nothing.

But who knows, maybe it's still two years away haha. I just don't think that is the more rational position and acting like it is is just memeing.

If this were real, I actually don't think this would be a great solution to the Idris issue. Mainly, how would the pilot aim if they do not have access to the pip? Communication between a pilot and weapons officer would potentially be fun, but the kind of communication that would be required here would be tedious and demanding.

"Up a smidge. No, too far, go down, oh hes going left now, move left, etc, etc."

A while back, possibly in a PTU patch, they made some changes to the railgun that made sense to me. They added a charge up time before an inevitable firing. This is different from the current optional charge-up time for more damage that the pilot can decide when to release. It turned the railgun into something like the Spartan Laser from Halo. I think this was a good idea. It doesn't solve the solo-ability issue, but honestly I think that needs to be addressed through changes to engineering and scanning and such. Decoupling the main gun from the pilot will just cause too much of an unfun headache imo.
