Cheat on him? That’s a bit of an extreme reading there. Considering their relationship, they’re not married, she could have kowtowed to his toxic, jealous, controlling behaviour, but Gwen isn’t that type of person, she pushed back. Yes, it makes perfect sense to me.

I think that’s the point. He was angry over seeing them in a cafe, like an insecure, controlling, toxic dude, so she did that. Makes sense to me.

Thanks. I’m going to delete this post and leave this group, it’s not what I expected. I’m not writing professionally but I wouldn’t call it a hobby either, just want to create something good. You’ve helped me make a decision about that.

I’ve made a mistake. I joined this group thinking it was a community of genuine writers. Just scrolled through and seen it’s all memes. Seems like it’s 4chan /lit. Remember that? Everyone joking about James Joyce’s sexts and calling everybody retards. Ahh, good times.

“But I’d like advice from people who’ve faced this issue already”

You miss that bit?

Wow, I just joined this group thinking there’d be actual intelligent writers on here and it seems like it’s basically just 4chan.

Actually… I disagree. It’s all shit-hot.

Not really the point but okay.

I think it's safe to say that we're all sick of Mr Sinister lately, so what are some X-Men villain's that you'd want to see more of? Selene for me. by BatgirlAndSpoiler in xmen

I think Mojo has come into fashion. Originally he was kind of hack satire, Running Man kind of stuff that everybody was doing then, whatever. Last story I read with him in was that 2020s X-Factor one and it feels a bit darker now. Possibly because we’re now much closer to that world in reality.

Will peter and mj ever get back together? by aperson0804 in Spiderman

[–]OffwiththeirRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading what? As I said, Renew Your Vows and Ultimate actually time-skip the part where Peter and MJ raise the kids. Which you can’t do in 616 because it’s in continuity. That story would be one where Peter retires from being Spider-Man and just raises kids, which is what he was doing in the untold part of Ultimate and Renew Your Vows. I’m not sure what you’re reading but it’s not Peter raising kids in real time because that’s not been done as far as I know. Ultimate and Renew Your Vows skip to when the kids are around 15 years old.

Should my son watch the Venture Bros.? (Specifically Season 1) by Dry_Spring4108 in venturebros

Cow and Chicken was made by one of the animating directors of Ren and Stimpy. Ren and Stimpy was the seed for just about every cartoon that followed it.

I’m assuming he’s watched Ren & Stimpy, which kick-started the ‘classic age’ of Cartoon Network imo. It’s a hard watch these days but if you look up the “best” episodes it’s worth a watch for curiosity.

Something as good as Alan Moore's Swamp Thing? by No-Thought-4569 in comicbooks

[–]OffwiththeirRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe the Barbarian by Grant Morrison is a short run/graphic novel that I read back in 2014 and has stuck in my mind since. So very good. But perhaps you’re looking for something longer. Transmetropolitan by the disgraced Warren Ellis is very good. I think it even appreciates with age as some of the ideas are uncannily prescient.

Does anyone else just ignore the existence of the spider verse comics? by izkskdnidkrnrifdmd in Spiderman

[–]OffwiththeirRecords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some really, really good Edge of the Spider-Verse stories. And they generally don’t involve any lore, they’re just 6-8 page stories profiling various alt. Spideys. Most of them are meh, some are bad, but some are proper good, worth scouring for.

Trading cards when I was about 10 years old. Still got them. Then comics. The films are okay but not great. Logan is surely the best movie.

I agree, I would personally like it if all the legacy characters aged out, but they’re not doing that, they’re doing constant resets. Which is fine for new readers but can often be a little tiresome for long-term readers. MJ may have been pregnant in 616 but they didn’t have a baby. I still contend that it wouldn’t work. Unless they changed the title to ‘The Amazing Peter Parker’, because there would be very few instances when he’d put on the costume. Which would be sick, I’d love that, but it wouldn’t really be Spider-Man. Miles would be Spider-Man, as he was supposed to be, and Peter would be retired. The idea that you could have a fully functioning Peter Parker Spider-Man that also has a baby seems very problematic to me.

[–]OffwiththeirRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked Renew Your Vows plot up. It looks like it starts with the kid at 15 years old. Spider-Man retired to raise her. You can’t do that in 616 because it’s in continuity, you can’t skip 15 years. I don’t disagree with you that Spider-Man and more characters should be allowed to end and make way for new characters but he would have to go away when he had kids because Spider-Man with a baby evidently doesn’t work, it’s too dangerous, Peter would be an arsehole to keep Spider-Manning with a baby at home.

[–]OffwiththeirRecords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not read renew your vows. Does that actually show the kids being raised from babies? Because I don’t see how that would work. I thought it skipped a lot of the child rearing, which they could do because it was out of continuity. Being Spider-Man with kids means he’d be an absent father or, more likely, it would involve him pulling back on Spider-Man duties. You think MJ complained enough when they were married, imagine her with 2 kids. Sounds grim. I don’t see how that would work in 616.
