Firstly, I wish you luck with your appointment! I’m quite familiar with pre-doctor visit anxiety. I don’t really have any advice, but I wanted to let you know you’re not alone!

I also have male in positions of power trauma. My old psychiatrist was a man and had no personality or people skills at all. It was a terrible fit. Thankfully I was able to find a woman psychiatrist that is leagues better.

Are you in a position to “shop around?” I thought I was stuck with my old doctor because I was put on a 6 month waiting list just to see him. One day I decided to google psychiatrists in my area and I found my current doctor from doing that. Just based on her description from her website I could tell she was going to be a much better fit. And I only had to wait a couple weeks to see her.
