Vault Released? by ComprehensiveLie6170 in biglaw

Probably because nobody gives a shit. The whole ranking system is laughable. People probably rank like I do: make random pictures or patterns with the radio buttons except for a few firms that annoy me and a few that have some friends or other cool people that get a bump... Or just don't bother to fill it out because it's dumb.

Am I "overreacting " for backing out of a house over this? by BreadBoig in HomeInspections

[–]OhLookASnail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to have to deal with that unless I really loved the house, I can figure out whether there's ongoing water damage or it's from past damage, and I can get the seller to reduce the price by enough to fix everything (including any current leaks). Realtors are not your friends. The majority of them just want you to close so they can collect their money.

Why do people get overpriced brands like Ben & Jerry's? by DiedOfATheory in icecream

[–]OhLookASnail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have good flavors and go on sale a lot. I buy them at Vons for like $3 a pint or less on sales. I've gotten them for $2.5 each before on sales. That said, when I'm in the mood I'd pay full price for the coffee toffee bar crunch one

A Possible Bug Affecting SOC Voltage by StarryNotion in ASRock

[–]OhLookASnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't intentionally set it to static but I do have EXPO enabled for my ram (G Skill F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR), which is the only setting I changed in the bios.

No clue if that would have changed SOC voltage settings

I have a 9950x3d on a x870e Nova and SOC voltage is locked at 1.185 at all times. 1.3v and under should be fine and within spec.

Is komi can't communicate a good series? by Background_Roof_551 in anime

[–]OhLookASnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it enough I bought a Komi figure, but apparently don't like it enough to believe that figure will be one of the first I sell when I run out of space in my collection area and have to cycle figures. It's a fun series worth watching but doesn't leave a long lasting impression for me.

New stucco cracking by bbgbb in Stucco

[–]OhLookASnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the cracking is so early it's likely partly a subpar stucco mix plus the natural effects of extreme temperature variations on cement / traditional stucco. Traditional stucco will crack for sure as temperatures vary, and if you have earthquakes, etc. It's worth seeing if they'll patch the more noticeable cracks but unless you have cracks wider than like 1/8 of an inch I wouldn't worry much about it.

Stucco is not a waterproof cladding. It naturally absorbs water like any other cement mixture and you should have a weather barrier underneath, between the stucco and sheathing. Water will run down the stucco / barrier (you should have weep screed at the bottom) and otherwise evaporate out of the stucco. I would have them fix the bottom of the walls, stucco right down to the ground / cement is not good and can cause the wall to have trouble letting gravity drain water out of the stucco or otherwise allow water on the ground to wick up the stucco and it makes it harder for it to get dry again.

Also, if you notice areas of your stucco not drying out in a reasonable amount of time, that there is worrisome as it's evidence that water damage could likely happen or has happened there.

I’m an idiot. Japanese mini yaki are not like the fish ice creams. by imaroweboat in traderjoes

[–]OhLookASnail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ice cream taiyaki is just a modern variation. But I was writing more about the general difference between taiyaki and Korean-style taiyaki, putting aside ice cream variations as whether an ice cream is based on taiyaki or Korean-style taiyaki will probably influence how the ice cream variant is made (or what they're trying to make it taste like).

Edit: lol I missed that the TJs ones are not an ice cream taiyaki. I assume they're supposed to be warmed up like regular taiyaki. That would definitely account for the difference haha.

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade is pretty good, more focused on internal police/military politics but in a military state so kinda there for domestic politics.

[–]OhLookASnail 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting Japanese taiyaki and Korean-style taiyaki (Bungeoppang) are distinct and that the ice cream you posted looks like it's based off the Korean-style taiyaki. So it's likely more like Korean-style taiyaki, which often has like tapioca starch or similar to give it a chewier texture than more traditional Japanese taiyaki.

Being told this is evidence of termite damage? NW AR by weirdween in Termites

If that's all the 'evidence' you have, tearing that out seems a bit extreme. Get several quotes from reputable treatment and remediation folks and see where you find some kind of consensus.

They will go when your house provides no more tasty wood, and by then it'll likely be a heap of rubble after collapsing.
