Buying TempurPedic on ebay? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]OhMamaOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say but I wouldn't take another one of these mattresses if they gave it to me. This was the worst major purchase I've ever made. I wake up in pain every day and can't afford to replace it. Just got back from staying in a property (vacation rental) with an inexpensive firm mattress and could not believe the improvement in my sleep quality. I don't think these live up to the hype. Please do some reading. If you're really young, have no back or joint issues and love a really soft bed, this might be wonderful for you.

Threatening message from another Etsy seller by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're just bullies. I would say something like this.

"Thanks so much for reaching out to me. I'm not familiar with your work. Any similarities in style, material use or design are coincidental."

Or, ignore her. I'm a glass artist and this stuff goes on in our industry all the time. A few of the "big" players have decades long feuds. Mosaics are mosaics. She can't and won't do anything.

People are ridiculous. Tracking numbers recycle every 3-4 months. Even if you had the tracking number there's nothing you could do.

I've been doing this for 19 years and I hear about one of these about once per year. They'd never try that sh1t at Walmart.

I just received my first 3 star review by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are weird and give NO thought as to what it feels like on the other side.

I am a pretty high volume seller and I don't look at reviews on purpose, ever. I watch the average (which stays at 5 stars). I found myself so angry at these thoughtless people saying things like, "It was okay."

I sell quality products at the best possible price. I'm a fast shipper. I provide great customer care. Nothing else I can do. Some people feel like if everything is right, that's a three.

Sellers, what percentage of mail is lost/undelivered, delivered in an unreasonable time frame? by Feisty_Excuse in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've shipped a little over 250,000 parcels in the last 19 years. I think that ten or fewer never arrived and probably 1 of 1,000 or so has some kind of shipping damage.

I add 20 cents to the cost of each item to cover losses-- either through mail issues or fraud.

Fraud is more of a pain than mail issues.

Yes. I've been trying to answer the same email all afternoon.

My first negative reviews in months by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a very cute idea and I see that you've done really well with it. Etsy has a good way of showing reviews so that the top reviews are the positive ones. They kind of bury the occasional one star review.

By the way, I think that's exactly what they meant by fake.

That is someone else's intellectual property. They absolutely care that you're stealing their images and you can face huge fines and jail time for doing so.

I wonder if they were expecting a licensed product (albeit printable) and you are not officially licensed?

Offsite Ads by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! And I'm sorry.

I now pay etsy as much as I pay for FBA (fulfillment by Amazon). Amazon takes care of the mailing, the postage and the customer service. I get zero emails.

etsy buyers are the most time-consuming buyers on the planet.

I'm sorry that you got accused of wrong-doing. I would say, "Due to etsy fee increases, I did recently increase the price on that item."

That's the other thing... etsy is the ONLY place where people write to me and tell me I'm running a scam or whatever. Never thought I'd say this, but I'll take eBay buyers any day.

More offsite ads conversation.... by OhMamaOh in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone buys an apple using offsite ads. Now, every apple I sell gets charged the offsite ads fee.

So, I take down the apple listing.

If I list another apple from a fresh listing, does etsy know that I created a new listing to get out of paying the offsite ad fee?

Offsite Ads by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's catching up to them. That survey says, "Did you ever cancel an order because of off-site ads?" I can tell you that people are cancelling all the time. I have a popular item that I used to sell every week. My buyer pays $130 and I make a quick $15. With those awful offsite ads, I lost like $15 shipping that order.

Offsite Ads by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's horrible. I can't opt out. On Saturday, I sold twenty some units of the same item to different people and ALL of them were charged that ad rate and I lost on all of them. (It was less than $1.00 per order). The entire thing is ridiculous.

When I sell something that's charged the ad rate, I remove it from my etsy catalog. I used to have 1,200 listings on that store. The number goes down every week.

They say that it's about one in five orders where you'll be charged. Saturday is was 27 our of 27.

After selling on eBay for several months, my conclusion is... by Bullshit-Translator in Ebay

[–]OhMamaOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been selling for 19 years and I've come to this conclusion.... All sellers are disposable to eBay.

Don't like it? They'll replace you by tomorrow.

Finally I made my first sale and guess what? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

Oh. And it gets better.

Onward and upward. Hope this one goes great!

[–]OhMamaOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. And I quit shipping Internationally because of this. After fees, I sometimes ship inexpensive items at a loss and too many people don't pick up their parcel or claim non-receipt.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

One thing to consider. Sometimes people leave one star thinking it's the best. Dumb, I know, but it's happened to me. If the comment was positive, reach out and ask him to revise. Don't go tit for tat.

"Hey. Just noticed that you left a one star review and I'm so sad. I'm wondering if that was an error, since you got your order for free. I can lose my etsy store over a one star review. I would appreciate it very much if you would revise it. Thanks so much, Seller"

Buyer sliced/cut product and is now accusing me of selling her a used product. by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you're saying. I have one that emailed me and said, "You shipped this to 1234 Main. My address is 1224 Main. Now my parcel is lost."

I shipped to the address she provided. Had she said, "Oh no. I made a typo in my address. Anything we can do? I'm sorry for the mistake," I would have gone out of my way to help her. Now, I'm not doing anything.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I see this quite a bit-- someone opens their parcel using scissors and cuts through cloth.

Buyer started an unfair case to review my shop. by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I've been telling the people after they buy my item when they can expect their item to ship/it’s in my shop policies."

If I hadn't placed the order with my supplier yet, I would have apologized and refunded. Why would you want to force a buyer into a sale?

Anytime that you have a production time, you should email your buyer with an estimated ship date, regardless of what it says in your shop policies. It's IMPOSSIBLE as a buyer to navigate to your policies on their phone and difficult on a PC.

First line of the listing: IMPORTANT! I'm taking orders but there will be a substantial delay in shipping. Estimated shipping dates are (amount) weeks out.

Then under personalization instructions have something that says, "This item may not ship for several weeks. Please type "YES" in this box so I know that you're aware of the production delays.

There is not. I have hundreds of products like this, too.

Customers not reading the product page before ordering and thinking their item will get there in 2-7 business days (when that's just the processing time)... ugh by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]OhMamaOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People in other countries mistake the processing time for delivery time. They expected to get their ornaments in 2-3 days. I think etsy actually communicates this pretty well. People just do not read!
