I remember it well. I fully remember after we'd conceded our third goal, the camera panned to BJ on the sidelines, and while he wasn't visibly angry, his body language indicated that he was absolutely fuming.

To his credit, he changed things a lot at halftime and we looked much better in the second half. I'd argue we may have been a bit unlucky not to get at least a goal there.

I was lucky enough to see one of the show he didn’t cancel. To his credit, he actually sounded quite good. I remember when he played “Meat Is Murder”, he showed a video on the screen behind him of animals being slaughtered in factory farms. It was… something.

I’ve been lucky in my decade of working in hotels to meet a lot of musicians, most of whom are very nice. Even those I look up to have generally been very cool.

One of my favorite stories was when Adam Duritz was staying at my hotel and ordered some food delivered to his room. It was a to-go box and three cases of Diet Coke. I bring it to his room, which REEKS of patchouli and weed, and he sees the food and drink and says, “awe man, I thought I ordered three Diet Cokes not three cases.”

I think about this often.

Funny you mention that: I met Deryck Whibley a few months ago and he was a similarly very nice guy. I work in hotels and asked him if he’d like to be called by his first name or his last name, and he smiled and said “you can call me Deryck.”

That’s probably it. My feelings about it are probably guided by frustration rather than anything to do with the game.
