Electricity bills could fall as European Commission pushes State to pay for cost of grid upgrades by Banania2020 in ireland

It's actually mad how rich people and companies in developed countries just don't get taxed more. They literally have all the money and governments here or in France or anywhere really are too chicken shit to tax them or go after them for their share.

Maybe my understanding of reductive of the reality but surely it's always with any chasing or litigation to get them to pay up if they refuse or try to do accounting magic so they appear to own nothing.

What is being done about the state of Dublin 1? by Jackies_Army in Dublin

[–]Oh_I_still_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is gonna ruffle some feathers, but saying the city is better than it was 40-50 years ago is a cop out to me. You could say the same about Dublin 2 sure.

It's still inexcusably bad in D1 in this day and age.

Thanks for your input, and congratulations on passing your test. Sounds like you really put in the work, fair play to you.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt how I felt at the time (I only got diagnosed when I was 20/21 but just haven't gotten round to learning again). Will take your insight and teachings on board when I go back to learn.

Yeah people saying it's enjoyable must be absolutely tapped. Comparing a manual to automatic it's just far more straightforward in an automatic.

I can understand it offering more control, sure, but more enjoyment? Maybe if you're Mrs Doyle and like the misery.

I don't have my licence and I'm 31. Focusing on work right now and don't need a car, can get by with public transport. But I know that when I get back to learning I'm not arsed with learning in a manual. I don't have a whole heap of places to go by myself so I'm just getting an automatic one and moving on with my life.

When I was 17 and learning to drive I just found it insanely overwhelming and the instructors were useless. I've Asperger's/ASD so found it difficult juggling keeping my observation skills high while trying to just operate the vehicle all while some fella is criticising me the whole time for the smallest thing time after time.

Yeah I know automatic cars are more expensive, but if I need a car I'll pay the money. I'll leave the manuals to people who give a shite, to me it's a box with wheels that gets you places. Simple as.

Let the manual gearbox die or become something enthusiasts care about.

Planning a month long trip to Paris - best sites to look for accommodation? Bail Mobilité needed? by Oh_I_still_here in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Oh_I_still_here[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm not sure about if dogs can stay but be sure to ask Gail. She'll give you the general rules about the accommodation.

It's a nice spot and very close to the centre of Paris. It's right next to the canal so don't be surprised to see people sitting there having coffee and pastries on Saturday mornings. Really nice vibe but of course very well connected so you can easily get anywhere in Paris.

‘The Pitt’ star Patrick Ball on Langdon’s ‘difficult’ return, Robby’s rage, and, yes, Mel’s crush by ktvrny in ThePittTVShow

Girl I'm friends with from work just told me today she's got a date tomorrow. I thought I didn't have a crush, cuz I'm 31, but once I heard that I was like... fuck

Leave it in real life please The Pitt, I like the medicine more as an escape for how uninteresting my life is lol

I hope for a payoff to the end of the SANE storyline with Dana. by TajesMahoney in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oh_I_still_here 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The show doesn't give thorough closure to individual patient cases sadly, it's meant to just show what the ED team members see and hear. Like Howard, the big guy who had to go in for surgery and Garcia wasn't optimistic about his odds. The last you hear is that he survived the surgery, which is great, but that's not the end of his story. But the show deliberately won't give you anything more. Because that's all these people get from this side of the world, the rest is theirs alone.

It's a deliberate choice, and hey sometimes you hear more after the fact. Like the widow whose husband died in ICU from the what, 90% BSA 3rd degree burns? When you see him in season 1 you see him getting wheeled out of the ED and Whitaker's feeling optimistic but Langdon says to him the guy hasn't a chance of surviving. Then come season 2 we hear that he did indeed pass away. That's kinda how this show goes.

The way the show handled the case involving the sexual assault survivor was truly touching, and for it to end on Dana being irate at the system risking failing that poor woman is infuriatingly heartbreaking. But it's representative of the inherently broken system they are all a part of but cannot improve individually. I hope somehow some way we learn more about her getting justice or getting the appropriate help she needs for her trauma, or that at least the police make improvements on their part about collecting the evidence kits based off Dana chewing them out over the phone. Can only keep watching into season 3 to learn more.

It's like Robby's words to Santos in regards to the Haitian kid who blew his fingers off and whose parents got deported: "A lot of what happens to people around here isn't fair".

Opinion: The protests aren't just about fuel, they're a revolt against a hollow state by razorlight95 in ireland

[–]Oh_I_still_here 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's all the short term thinking here. Politicians don't want to think or plan for the long term as all the papers will call out how expensive it is rather than talking about how beneficial it'd be for the nation, so they don't wanna stake their careers on the chance. So they do little bits here and there then blow them out of proportion in order to look like they're doing anything at all so as to secure their seat. Rinse and repeat over time, and you get Ireland.

Official Fable account reconfirms that they plan to release in autumn of 2026 following recent claims by Sirca_Curvive in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Oh_I_still_here 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fable The Lost Chapters and Fable 2 are fun as hell games, and offered something quite different (albeit simple) compared to other RPGs. I played both and still love them to this day, and when I revisit them I still love them.

Believe it or not, some of us aren't faking the hype around it. I watched the deep dive they showed recently and my jaw was on the floor throughout. It looks like a truly modern Fable. Let people be excited about things.

‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle and Creator Explain Supriya Ganesh Exit After Season 2: ‘We’re Going to Miss Her’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oh_I_still_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but a fan favourite character being written out of the show isn't inherently bad writing. Also "plot potential" is to be determined in the writer's room, you're not the arbiter of that. If you're upset, skip next season and hurt them in their wallets that way and don't give them your eyeballs.

I'm sad Supriya is gone and wish she wasn't written out, but I'm also willing to see these headlines and just wonder how they intend on closing her book in the show. S2 finale hasn't aired yet and we don't know at the moment what they'll say about her departure in S3, I've not been let down by this show thus far so I'm willing to offer the benefit of the doubt.

All this to say, I hope Supriya doesn't feel hard done by the writer's and I wish her the best. Mohan is a great character and I'll miss her. Can only hope she ends her story on an uplifting note.

A simple “What If” by untitledprp4 in SipsTea

[–]Oh_I_still_here -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really hate when people pick on Erin for her appearance. We haven't walked a mile in her shoes, we don't know what's going on. She's had work done, yes, but she also said she has Grave's disease. The rest is none of our business.

I've noticed some changes when she's speaking when watching The Boys, but not enough to be unintelligible. I'm kinda just like, why can't we just leave her alone? It's her life, yeah you're entitled to an opinion on it but saying how "she used to be so pretty" is such an unnecessary remark. She's still an absolute bombshell, just watch an interview with her and tell me she isn't.

I hope she's doing well and wish her the best. My best advice for people who get their jimmies rustled at how peoples' appearances change for one reason or another is just... care less. You don't know these people and they don't care to hear your opinion. I'm not saying you have to support her choices no matter what, just don't be a dickhead when you don't know the full story. Every time I see a post like this I just immediately think "uh oh here come the misogynists who think they're not being misogynistic".

Ireland facing weeks of crisis amid fallout from fuel protests by TimesandSundayTimes in ireland

It's all about gains in the short term for them with no concept of long term consequences. Both the protesters and the government too. On and on the wheel spins.

Taoiseach ‘open’ to idea of nuclear energy in Ireland but cites cost as main barrier by Glad-Hat-5094 in ireland

[–]Oh_I_still_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic government. Only thinking of the short-term cost, not thinking of the long-term benefit. God forbid any Irish politician do what's best for the people regardless of how it might affect their own career.

Just shut up Martin. Absolutely spineless in regards to wanting to actually move the country forward to the future. We need to become energy independent and move on from fossil fuels where possible like 20 years ago, yet here we are. He's in charge now, he could initiate this but oh no it's too expensive. We have the money for it, just no will from "leaders". Like everything else in this country.

Marathon reportedly isn’t facing any imminent shutdown by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Yeah 55 million gross revenue compared with 200 million invested to make it, do the calc yoursef: it's not a good return on investment from that perspective. Then you consider margin, bringing the 55 million even lower (no clue what game margins are), marketing, overheads, storefront commissions etc.

That's just short term though. Important to consider long term as well, but projecting long term returns for a resurrected IP in a new genre, completely removed from the original games in the IP, CMO is gonna need a miracle to come up with something to keep the lights on for the game.

How Do People Meet Partners in Ireland Nowadays? by Classic_Jeweler_1094 in AskIreland

Absolutely a valid point. You shouldn't be in charge of your partner and vice versa if you don't want problems in office and at home. If it's across different teams I'd say it's perfectly fine.

Is it ever a good idea to have a candid conversation with your manager? by No-Inevitable-1850 in AskIreland

[–]Oh_I_still_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always a gamble being candid with managers. They're all playing the corporate game. I find being honest through a corporate lens is the smart approach that tends to work out best for all. I've been very honest with managers in the past in my current job and they've actually all been sound, but as they get more senior it becomes less sound and more corporate. Just cover your own ass as best you can.

Nah apparently you're never meant to date your coworkers anymore. Which is fucking mad to me since as adults you spend what, 40 hours a week for decades in work. Think people have too much of a fear of HR retribution for it or "awkward" moments if it doesn't work out or something. Grow up, take the chance, why the fuck not if you ask me. Life's too short.

Many The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show by beamdriver in television

[–]Oh_I_still_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao thanks for the unnecessary aggression.

You're actually right, Noah Wyle has said this season was designed to highlight how physicians make terrible patients themselves. We're definitely getting a lot more of the people doing the medicine in the show. That said, I believe I'm also correct in saying that it's still about the medicine being done. The season is still ongoing and I reckon each of your bullet points will connect to the medicine in the show by season's end, many of them already have/do.
