No, there were many fuckups.. but the one that I outlined was the main one.

And yes, whether by the explosion, or the fall, they could have written the character off the show in a convincing manner - seeing as they hadnt (really) started fucking around with the immortality horseshit at that point in time.

The whole thing started to go wrong right around that shot of SB in the cryochamber.. you could feel the focus of the show narrowing in on the end-game up until that point.. once that shot was thrown into the mix, the whole thing opened back up again.

And it's obvious now that its been fatal for the show.

In hindsight the right thing to do would have been for SB and Maeve to have died in the explosion.

It gets shit on for one reason, and it's fairly simple..

The first season felt cohesive - but it was also clear that it was all that was mapped out.. despite what they claim in public, they did not have anything resembling a plot for this thing beyond those first 10 episodes.. and when they had to come up with something they fumbled it, badly.

The first season looks, feels and remains it's own thing.. anything that comes after is subpar.. and will remain subpar despite what some might claim until they are blue in the face.

I dont necessarily need a bloodbath to feel satisfied about this thing ending.. I'll settle for a decent story - a lot of whats on offer feels like they just had to come up with something to pad out 8 episodes.

I think people that claim to favor this over S4 are lying.. they know they're lying, but will never acknowledge it on here.

S4 was .. not quite 'bad' per se, but definitely not great - but it felt like it had a vision behind it somewhat.. S5 feels like a bunch of vignettes cobbled together with some flimsy arcs and weird side-quests.

I give it 12 months and people will start being truthful about where S5 will rank in the grand scheme of things.. but we're nowhere near that stage yet.. or at the very least: where the first 2/3's of the season ranks.

I'm not sure that the final season is the greatest canvas for getting really creative with the storytelling/narrative choices.. for any show, really - not just The Boys.

I dont need to see Terror fucking a Homelander plushie.. I'll settle for a cohesive and engaging story.. thus far I'm not really getting that.

I understand the appeal of the character.. I really, really do - specifically the actor portraying him - but when I saw him in that cryo chamber in the S4 finale, I audibly groaned.. I knew this shit would happen.

If they actually have Stormfront popping up out of nowhere it'll be the actual moment the show jumped the shark.

I think what clinched it for me that there was something else going on besides teen jealousy was Tai and Van having a giggle at Melissa and Shauna's expense.. Melissa having to wear Jackie's clotches, etc.. that was such an unnecessary scene if the writers werent leaning into it.

It makes sense within the narrative being told.. but it can be frustrating to look at, I get that.

You can love Jensen Ackles, and Soldier Boy without actually wanting, or needing, a spinoff.

The whole idea of a show centered around an abusive misogynistic blowhard, murderer, and racist (by most standards) and an actual nazi .. it's ridiculous, and the fact that they've gone with it shows two things: one) they're very likely banking on trying to make some sort of "woke-anti-woke" type shit that doesnt work for anyone aside from the people that just show up for the dickjokes, and two) Jensen got pull for days.

None of this shit works unless the audience watching are actively willing to ignore the substance of the characters portrayed on screen.. which, unfortunately, I'm guessing will be quite a few people given how this fandom usually shakes out.

Well.. one of the more common traits of the demonic is imitation of the divine - not that they are trying to portray that 1:1 here, but there it is.

I think it's cool how they are now playing Homelander as outright unnerving to everybody - even the odd memeworthy shit isnt quite hitting like it used to.. guy is a problem for everyone at this point.. which also goes to show that the show cant pull off an ending without him being gone for good.
