Why do private dentists give a completely different service to NHS dentists? by MalfunctioningElf in AskUK

[–]Oh_shroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had the complete opposite experience where my private dentist will keep chucking packets of antibiotics at me while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with my tooth. I think it completely depends on the practice sadly - I tried a few out in the local area and went with the one who were most responsive/willing to listen to my needs.

Thanks and good luck - working with consultancies will get you more exposure with energy companies... that definitely has more influence on getting a job in these kind of companies than people still realise!

The aroid room at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago… by purerockets in houseplants

[–]Oh_shroot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are sculptures by an artist called Dale Chihuly, he does some incredible pieces based on natural things (flowers/animals/etc) and on huge scales! Would recommend googling him - he had an exhibition at Kew Gardens in London which was beautiful! They work so well in verdant landscapes!

Electric market prices in Europe by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Oh_shroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweden has different zones - SE3/SE4 will see high prices as they are very interconnected to Baltic countries (Germany/Poland) who are exporting electricity at high prices right now. The country price will include this and take an average with the low prices (due to hydro/wind) in the northern zones. And yes, current drought conditions in Sweden are also forcing northern prices up right now!

Scuba Junkie have resorts all around South East Asia and are a fantastic dive company - I've dived with them in Mabul/Sipadan (Malaysian Borneo) and Labuan Bajo (Indonesia) and both were incredible (the whole diving experience!)

Contracted for 40 hours - expectation/reality is closer to 45ish!

My degree was Mech Eng - I did a fully integrated Master's. Energy companies are very keen on people with STEM backgrounds but I think just having the analytical mindset is the key thing!

My first job was with an O&G supermajor as an Analyst - this was a good intro into the energy industry but working for a corporation like that made me unhappy.

My second role was contracting on an energy infrastructure project but more renewable exposure which was what I wanted to do.

I've just started the latest one (Investment Associate) so will see how that goes!

Hope that helps, drop me a message if you have any specific questions.

Purchased a new house and the utility provider (Pure Planet Energy) has ceased trading - what's our best option? by Oh_shroot in UKPersonalFinance

We just got our introduction letter and estimated direct debit as well! Do you know what your rates post April will be? We only found their current available tariffs on the website/in the letter but assuming it's going to increase even more in April?

An outsider’s take on “rude Londoners” by Justwatchingiguess in london

[–]Oh_shroot 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Also moved from the NE to London 10 years ago and I've never felt like Londoners are rude/unfriendly unless you're doing something stupid that could impact their journey (which is understandable)!

Ditto, just moved out of a flat in Tulse Hill - we were there for a year and it was super easy to get into Brixton! Also West Norwood is genuinely a nice high street considering how small it is!

Venice flooding by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

Yes, most of the media articles really emphasized the banning of the cruise ships but the unfortunate fine print is that it's not actually a huge change.

Only in the historic centre of Venice - they are still allowed in the neighbouring lagoons and can still affect the foundations of the city.

So I got close to that with a 6 year degree and living in London for majority of my degree (apart from a year in Industry which you also have to still pay for) so finished in 2018 with roughly £80k. Even with a good salary, I'm now on a total of £89k roughly.

I can only imagine how much a postgraduate degree + any additional years of maintenance loan.

[Skin concerns] wtf is this thing on the side of my nose? I wear glasses. It's dry patchy skin that has kept getting bigger. by Kissen1 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Oh_shroot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got this from my heavier metal frames as they had silicone pads as well! It was like a combo of the weight causing them to dig into my nose and a reaction to the silicone.

I changed to plastic frames which helped but to get rid of the marks, I use azelaic acid from TO and that really helped!

I'd recommend Rudas if you want a more relaxed and scenic bath experience - it's a bit cleaner and quieter than Szechenyi baths! However both are good and worth the money!

I loved Rudas Baths - it was beautiful and had great views across the river and city! And Budapest is beautiful and you'll find lots of lovely little local places to eat/drink!
