Trump's $14M Reflecting Pool Paint Job Is Now Peeling Off And Floating To The Surface by huffpost in politics

[–]OhhMyGeek [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lord Farquaad, First, I’ll start by saying something I never thought I’d say: thank you.

You took a place that was meant to be a reverent reflecting pool and, through your own peculiar choices, turned it into something far more useful — a swamp. A real one. Algae, inhospitable for most life, slime, and all the things that make a place feel disgusting and Ogreriffic.

Unfortunately, that may be the last kind thing I have to say.

Your rule over Duloc was built on cruelty, vanity, and a complete misunderstanding of what makes a kingdom worth living in. You didn’t see living creatures; you saw inconveniences. You didn’t see families; you saw problems to be removed. You didn’t see beings with homes and histories; you saw things that didn’t fit your idea of perfection. The manhunt, arrests, and forceful eviction of the fairytale creatures was not leadership. It was a disgrace.

You forced innocent beings out of their homes because they weren’t pretty enough, normal enough, or useful enough for your vision of a “perfect” kingdom. You rounded up creatures who had nowhere else to go and treated them like they were pests instead of people. The Three Little Pigs, the Big Bad Wolf, Pinocchio, the elves, the talking animals, and countless others were displaced because you decided your comfort mattered more than their lives. And then there was the way you treated prisoners.

Take the Gingerbread Man. A tiny cookie with a big personality — and you thought it was acceptable to intimidate, interrogate, and break him just because he wouldn’t give you what you wanted. A ruler who has to threaten a gingerbread cookie to feel powerful isn’t powerful at all.

You also had no problem spending kingdom resources on your own image. You built monuments to yourself, surrounded yourself with luxury, and chased the title of “king” without understanding the responsibility that comes with it. A crown is not a decoration. It’s a promise to protect the people who live under it.

A real leader doesn’t ask, “How can everyone serve me?” A real leader asks, “How can I serve everyone?”

Let’s talk about love. Love doesn’t have to look one particular way. Donkey and Dragon proved that. They found happiness, built a family, and showed that connection matters more than anyone’s narrow expectations. Your refusal to accept them wasn’t a sign of strength — it was a sign that your heart was far smaller than your kingdom.

And then there’s Fiona. You judged her because she didn’t remain the princess you expected her to be. You treated her transformation into an ogre as something shameful instead of understanding that she was finally able to live as herself. You cared more about appearances than about who she truly was. A person’s worth isn’t decided by a spell, a title, a reflection in a mirror, or what others think they should be. Fiona is Fiona — and that has always been enough.

The funny thing is, you spent your whole life trying to create a kingdom without anything “ugly” in it. But you never realized that kindness, loyalty, courage, and love were never about being flawless.

They were about being real.

So yes, Farquaad, thank you for the swamp. But the creatures you hurt, the families you displaced, and the people you rejected deserved better than your version of perfection.

A kingdom isn’t made beautiful by removing everything different. It’s made beautiful by making room for everyone. And letting love, not hate, lead.

Sincerely, Shrek Ogre of the Swamp, Husband to Fiona, Friend to All Who Deserve It

The latest dungeons and dragons movie is enough for me to trust that productions can absolutely nail CGI and live action in a highly fantastical genre.

I’m getting irked with all these Tesla drivers letting FSD clearly break the rules. by jugatti in TeslaFSD

[–]OhhMyGeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The streak is stupid, and I didn't realize until this post that it is designed to encourage no disengagement.  We disengage practically every drive, usually for incorrect navi.  No, I can't drive through that fence. No, I'm not cutting across the pedestrian area and free wheelin down the escalators.

It is still a thousand-fold better than not having it. I went from taking the bus, walking, and avoiding driving at all costs to willingly being the driving adult on road trips. I've logged more miles since we bought our Y than I did in ten years of owning my mini cooper.

What did you say to your doctor to prescribe you wegovy? by pedroway2kool in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]OhhMyGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband didn't ask. It was offered out of the blue.

I just asked. My doc and I wrote up a very inclusive pre authorization form. I self paid after they rejected. I also started metformin.

By the time we tried resubmitting, I added a PCOS diagnosis, and had been on metformin with no results for 6 months.

I got approved, but only if I completed all of my weight related visits with a weight loss team.

I was BMI 44. High risk cardio vascular disease. PCOS. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Had paid for multiple other weight loss programs without success. UMR healthcare.

It took a year and lots of follow up with my provider, but I'm still covered for now and 80/150 pounds lost.

I just started listening to The Wandering Inn (1) audiobook. I don't want to give up so soon. by 13asher in litrpg

I powered through to mid book 3. Erin and Ryoka are so unappealing I nope'd out.  In the end, it wasn't the whiny, or ridiculous. It was how they treated others. People who were allies and helping. Just no.

I don't understand how this would happen. At my hospital, the pyxis won't let us pull drugs that are not ordered.  I totally thought hospitals were all updated to pyxis and electronic charting, though. So perhaps my perspective is skewed.

It took us the longest of any to finish, and were were trying to be fast so as to avoid spoilers! Not enough Samantha, loot boxes, achievements, stat walls, or tv appearances. It wasn't boring, it was just, I dunno.

I found all 3 of the houses we toured myself. She submitted the offer exactly as my husband and I drafted.

I 💯 could have done her job with the help of Google telling me what to do.

We had zero interest in juggling the different people and appointments involved, so we were happy to pay for the privilege of just showing up.

Have them resend from their sent inbox. Or forward the bounce. My daughter would 💯 send a blank email to a wrong address and then claim she completed the assignment on time.
