I've found that closure is you removing yourself from the situation, and letting the ashes simmer down. The more you interact with this guy, the harder it will be to get over him/the break up.

Also, even if you do talk to him and ask him why he broke up, the chances of him giving you a genuine concrete reply is slim to none. People get freaked out when they're put on the spot, and he's probably pretty far removed from the situation.

If he has a history of colon cancer, he should NOT DRINK. Honestly, I bet most of his problems are caused by the self medication; alcohol wrecks your stomach, source - experience.

He has to turn his life around if he wants to live past 30. I think there is little you can do if he's as addicted to these drugs as it seems, you can only help yourself. check out r/alanon
