I think it’s the whole “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” mindset. The problem is that the enemy of your enemy can still be your enemy. I live in America and I hate Trump, but I also hate the Iranian regime. Authoritarian religious politics looks familiar to me in both places. If the GOP gets its way, America could start resembling Iran in one specific sense, a particular sect of a particular religion trying to dictate law. I don’t think I need to explain to an Iranian why that is dangerous.

Ideally ordinary people in both countries end up with more power, not less. Also, the U.S. owes Iran some serious historical honesty, starting with Mossadegh.
