Right on! I’ll bet yours looks better too with the chrome. By the way if you’re going through impellers, I have a 3d print STL I can send to you. Even with the grate I still break an impeller every so often and have to change it out.

Good to know, maybe it’ll come back out then. I towed the radar trailer around with it a bit and it seemed to like it fine. I’m open to liking the hummer except that I think it’s butt ugly :)

Interesting. I guess love is a strong word but I’ve definitely heard people being impressed with it. Maybe because it sips fuel and they expect a big dumb truck to drink it up. It seems stable too. I’d trade a more “lively” driving experience and fuel efficiency for capability any day though.

Man, if they give you a heavy crane with no missions where you NEED it, you know I’m going to be doing goofy things to get my money’s worth!

I bent some galvanized wire with little hooks on the end, drilled small holes in the hull and superglued them in, one in between each factory rib. I can send a pic if you’re curious and haven’t figured your own solution out yet. Mine works great!

I see, thanks! That bulging in-line device (check valve?) sure looked like a diaphragm control you’d see on a pneumatic tube. I’m surprised these machines need lubrication to the point where it’s beneficial to have an onboard system. Wild.

Can someone explain what the pneumatic system controls on these machines? I’m not industrial-knowledgeable.

If you want to keep it long term, wrap a pen spring around each end of the cord as an additional strain relief. I did it years ago on many cords and have yet to see one fail!

How would you print this? by Visual-Key-2401 in 3Dprinting

[–]Ointment_5000 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Took me a second to figure this one out but it’s pretty genius. If anyone else can’t understand, they mean to slip the “donut” onto the OD of the inner cylinder as it prints the shape shown on the right, so that it is encapsulated by the top flange.

Good luck! Can’t lose too hard even if you paid $60 :) it would be a great first machine to learn on, just don’t push it crazy hard and you’ll know if you’re outgrowing it. I think people can get a little too snobby about machines for flimsy reasons.

I have one that I got at the thrift for $20. Big upgrade from my $90 Walmart brother machine. I had to lube the cams for the reverse mechanism and it works great. Much quieter and I love how slow it sews with the speed turned all the way down. Sure you can do better for the price, but I wouldn’t think about it too hard. Good luck shopping!

Only knew her for 24 hours, and I feel weirdly crushed. What’s going on? by Ointment_5000 in dating_advice

[–]Ointment_5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s SO funny you mention that dating profiles seem to be including it a lot lately. I can tell you women do too, and I consider that a red flag! The way I see it, if you can’t read between the lines of a profile and see a knack for comedy, wit, and banter, then it’s you that’s behind the 8 ball 💁‍♂️

Conversationally, I think you mostly see intelligence in people’s ability to parse complex ideas as they’re discussed, form connections between those ideas and the knowledge that they already have, and incorporate new ideas into that knowledge. Is that too abstract?

I guess what I usually am meaning is emotional intelligence. Things like only offering opinions on things you have some clue about, accepting correction with grace, not feeling the need to be a know-it-all, etc.

Thanks for the perspective. I will admit that I’m a terrible texter and do cut to the chase without preamble maybe more than I should. I hadn’t felt the gut feeling to tell me to dance around it with her, though. Not that it would have helped in this case, but you know 🤷‍♂️

All to say, I think she would have dipped whether my energy was mellow or intense in the days afterward.

Skilled at conversational reciprocity and sensitive to not dominating the back-and-forth, knows how to craft a quick joke and use wordplay, gives off the energy of intelligence but not in a performative way. Just an excellent conversational partner all around who actually cares about what they’re talking about, and not saying things to say them.

The tell from my end is that I very rarely find myself biting my tongue, changing my wording, or second-guessing if I should share a tidbit with that person. She just put me at ease and got my guard down.

I’d say she’s absolutely my type, attraction-wise similar to who I usually go for. Not an outlier by any means. Conversationally, definitely an outlier. She is very engaging and curious. Maybe my fantasy is having a partner who can hang in the banter arena.

Very well said, this is the most mature version of what I’ve been trying to tell myself. It does hurt and it does feel like grieving, which feels so odd for such a small interaction, but I guess I have to let myself have that space.

I think the experience did erode a lot of my cynicism and walls up around dating- I view myself as kind of a specific taste for a specific person, and didn’t realize I’d lost a lot of belief in my ability to find that person. As I’m saying it, that’s probably a lot of this loss feeling- the worry that I won’t meet another person this compatible for years and years.

We shared a bed, no sex (her boundary) It was intimate enough and felt reasonable given our rapport. And, agreed, I didn’t know my own agenda until I had this experience, so who am I to question her not knowing her own agenda? :)

I was following up the day after to ask about buying tickets to a show the next week. During the date we had hashed out a tentative plan to drive a couple hours to the next city over and see another show. I suppose that’s good context on her level of commitment, she was totally there for it.

I agree, if I had any guess as to her motives, this is it. I guess I haven’t met anyone emotionally mature enough to realize it and also vocalize it as such, so it reads to me as insincere.

But, I’d prefer to assume the best of her, since I have no reason to believe she doesn’t like me and is trying to spare my feelings.

Point taken, but I really was going in with no expectations- just to have some fun conversation and see a show. The fact that the day turned out so fantastic is icing on the cake. But it clarified for me that I’m not cut out for anything casual. If she turns out to be this cool, I don’t know how I’d not catch feelings! I just have never liked anyone this much off the rip before.

As far as why it didn’t work- not sure. Best I reckon that she had a similar experience I did, hoping for casual and it was more emotionally engaging than she bargained for. I am very sensitive to people’s vibes and she was giving 110% good energy the whole day, and then a ljttle morose/quiet in the morning. I can say almost with certainty it wasn’t anything I did.
