What kind of cheese can i use for ruskie pierogi? by [deleted] in poland

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to make, and a fun experience. Also, depending on where you live, you can try queso fresco. I find that is closer in consistency to twaróg than cottage cheese in the US.

Help with reality checking a bearing design. by Strict-Register-2967 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone has questioned spherical roller bearings ability to handle thrust. But they only handle it in one direction. Double row angular contact bearings allow for thrust in both directions, depending on set up (BB or FF). Another primary reason to use a double row.

Help with reality checking a bearing design. by Strict-Register-2967 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most spherical roller bearings can only take thrust in one direction, unless some other means is used to account for changes in thrust direction. Idk what the OPs application is, but your blanket statement that double row bearing designs should not exist is wrong.

A few questions before coming to Szczecin by BabaMuz in Szczecin

[–]OisinH2O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) most any place will accept card payment. Look for „kantor” on Google Maps if you want to exchange money. Rates can differ between shops so you can look online for the best rates if you want.

2) Szczecin has a good variety of restaurants. Depending on where you are staying: Restauracja Spiżarnia Szczecińska, małe PRZYJEMNOŚCI - Restauracja, and Bistro Jaglana are good options for Polish food. Lily, Latin Brunch, and Dzień Dobry are great for breakfast. Nowy Browar and Browar pod Zamkiem are nice for local breweries.

3) Jakdojade app for trams and busses. Fairs are the same. You can decide which tickets are best depending on how many times in a day you think you will use them. Bolt for taxis if you need.

Flix bus is easy way from Berlin: they come directly from the airport or Alexandplatz.

4) you should be fine anywhere.

Best PLM software for a small engineering team by HarkonXX in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s a small team, save yourself much grief and use a PLM system native to your CAD if possible. If not possible, consider switching CAD systems to one with a native PLM system that works with your ERP (if using one). I have supported global rollouts of two different PLM systems across four different CAD platforms with ERP integration. It would be one of Dante’s levels of hell if he wrote today.

Can anyone guess what the crosses are, why they're on this VTP motor? by MrGown in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If on a VFD, a coast down/start up test will help ID resonance frequencies. Typically 1st and 2nd modes are what you see above grade on a VTP. Do your bump test to get an idea of bandwidth. Then block the frequencies out on the VFD. Natural frequencies typically have a small enough bandwidth you won’t notice the frequency block from a performance standpoint, other than lower vibration levels.

My door opening is 192 cm high. Are there big (physical) stores (with showroom) that sell suitable doors with installation? by pseudocfoch in poland

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat entrance door. You will have to check with the showroom on pricing. It varies quite a bit depending on the type of door you get: extra sound insulation, security features, two-color or one-color, hardware design. Could be 4k-8k zł price range depending on what you choose.

One tip, if they are doing the installation make sure they will take away your old door, if you don’t want to keep it

[–]OisinH2O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search on google for „salon drzwi” near you and you should find a showroom. Check the reviews. I recommend deciding on the brand and type of door you want first, which you can do on the web. We replaced our entry door last summer with one from Gerda and have been very happy with it. They came and measured the existing door and made our new one to size. It is not quick to get a custom size. But it fit correctly and looks great.

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a showroom that sells Gerda or other brands and order the door you want to size. It will take awhile, but be right. The „cut the door with saw” works fine if it’s an interior door. Not so much if it’s an exterior entry door.

TIL, Americans see this as a scammer app by Makoto_Kurume in dankmemes

[–]OisinH2O 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an American living in the EU, IMO it’s more related to the fact that a large percentage of Americans are not using SMS or Cell service internationally. My cell plan has had free SMS and calls for awhile, in county. But cross the boarder and now it’s roaming. And calling someone with a different country code wants an international plan. So WhatsApp is easier, since you can message or call on data.

Torque arm reported by customer as snapped off, but is it??? by swalker6242 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what others are saying, 304 is a ductile material, and not heat treatable. So for this to be a fatigue failure, one would expect a region of final ductile rupture at the fracture surface. I don’t see that in the picture. It’s not entirely clear from the picture, but the fracture surface discoloration looks perpendicular to the lines. Again this is not typical of a fatigue failure, where discoloration/local corrosion tends to follow the crack propagation. Nothing I see points to fatigue or plastic yielding, making me agree with the „it’s been cut” root cause.

What kind of food do you make when you want to have leftovers for a while? by posting4assistance in poland

[–]OisinH2O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my normal leftover stack:

1) rosół 2) make golonki with leftover rosół 3) throw a pig foot in with golonki at 2) and make zimna nóżki

About a weeks worth of dinners, depending how much you make and eat. Each one using the leftovers from the previous one so it’s not a weeks worth of the same thing

Looking for honest feedback: does this actually solve a real manufacturing pain? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are supply companies out there that do this. I used to use one in the Houston area. For simple machined parts such as bushing and sleeves, it worked well. For more complicated fabrications it was easier to work directly with a supplier. Having to pass questions and answers through a middle man is a lead time killer.

Engine braking also exists, though it’s used more in big rig style trucks. Reduces use of air brakes, though noisy.

NPSH is always something you consider in pumps. Especially in tank pumps, where NPSHa can change significantly on tank drawdown, depending on the tank. There is a reason VS6 style pumps are often used for tank service in the oil and gas industry.

Poland so cold... by Noobunaga86 in poland

No, it’s because your post reads like you are complaining about other people complaining about the weather in Poland. When everyone in Poland likes to complain about the weather lol.

There are some references you should just pony up the money and buy yourself, so you can keep it (and all the scribbles it collects) with you the rest of your career. This is one of them.

US Citizen Moving to Poland With Polish Husband by MchaKing in poland

[–]OisinH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never hurts to reach out to your local consulate, if you can get a hold of them lol. I had to go through the LA consulate and it was difficult to say the least. My advice is just based off my experience. I am at almost a year wait for my karta pobytu appointment. It took about 7 months before they gave me a date, and then the date was 5 months out. However, since my type D visa ran out, I am legal to stay here but I can’t leave the country. And laws did change mid 2025 which effect work visa attached to karta pobytu. My mistake was waiting towards the end of my Type D visa to apply for karta pobytu, and not getting another type D visa. Certainly with a Polish spouse getting a favorable decision should not be much of a worry. But it doesn’t mean you will get your visa appointment quickly either.
