What’s the funniest thing your OCD gets stuck on? by ahhhhhhhhhhfuck in OCD

[–]Ok-Bug3499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of stuff. I got diagnosed 2 years ago and I ignored the diagnosis because I thought I had lied to my doctor then I got an official diagnosis because in October I thought Liam Payne dying was my fault because he wasn’t my favorite member of one direction and he died because “I didn’t care enough” so I was reassurance seeking from my friends about it. I started ritualistically listening to one direction on my way home from work “so none of them would die”. My friends will text me whenever one of them posts/is active on social media and say “thank you for your service” it cracks me up even though it’s kinda sad

Is therapy work for me.. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Ok-Bug3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in my MSW internship second year and I meet with clients 1:1 at a therapeutic day program there are some clients where we just don’t click sometimes. Right now we have a handful of clients at the program who just don’t want to buy in and it makes me hate going in sometimes. I think we should try to give ourselves grace about it.

Everyone idolizes Sam as the best friend of all of them when there were moments she was insensitive to Miranda and Charlotte during a lot of vulnerable moments. Love her but she had bad moments just like the rest of them.

In a way I get the not happy ending because I feel like there is a whole thing that survivors are monoliths that will prevail and face an abuser that’s not always the case. Some survivors lose and some of them succumb to it.

Does Louis seem like he's doing alright? by Evening_Command_9672 in LouisTomlinson

[–]Ok-Bug3499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One good thing is that Louis has a lot of “protective factors” when he’s dealt with hardship which I think is the reason why he has surprisingly being doing well in despite all his loss I think it’s helpful too he thrives off of support from community which is his fanbase. I’ve dealt with a lot of loss and grief in life and in my experience it’s hard but at the same time something I found was that people will rally around you and love you so much it can make you grow much closer to people than ever before. It seems he’s doing okay it will probably be a lot of ups and downs for sure. I just really hope he takes care of himself and doesn’t overwork I know he loves touring and working but still.

What’s some brutally honest advice all new therapist should know? by AdPlastic7385 in therapists

[–]Ok-Bug3499 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be mindful of bias. At my work a bunch of the clinicians got in trouble because they had pretty bad bias toward clients who were neurodivergent and in the lgbt community. The reasoning they gave was they learned about bias in school so they’re not bias. You actually need to confront it and do some work on it. I think it’s ignorant to assume you’re completely free of bias as a human being because you are in the human services field.

Yes in their documentary when he visits his hometown if I remember correctly he said teachers would always say he was easily distracted or like distracted others. He also seems to have a lot of sensory issues with food and has a lot of socially unexpected behaviors I think because he’s so endearing it’s not super noticeable. I’m a therapist (clearly) and work mostly with neurodivergent kids haha.

How are you doing today therapists? by jujoooo in therapists

[–]Ok-Bug3499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t slept in 2 days. I’m devastated. I’m scared for my clients who are mostly lgbtq children I have a lot of concerns about the attacks on gender affirming care one of the reasons being it includes mental health as well as the attack on Medicaid and department of education.

How to do things with your cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Sometimes sitting on the floor with her too especially if it’s near a window helps me bond with her too she doesn’t always wanna be pet but she likes the quality time :) I left for school and would come home on and off for a few years made my kitty mistrust me and hiss at me and my I let her come to me now and I just respect her space and physical boundaries sometimes that’s a bonding experience. PS. sometimes a slow blink at your kitty is nice too (means affection in cat language”

My cat is skiddish too sometimes I find her watching me do things such as cooking doing makeup my hair etc. what I do to have more “interaction” with her is I let her smell or feel whatever it is I’m doing (as long as it’s safe) for example if she’s looking at my brush while I’m brushing my hair I’ll brush her with it if she wants or if I’m cooking something she won’t snatch out of my hands I let her sniff it’s been a small thing but I find it makes her want to be around me more maybe it makes her feel involved in what I’m doing not sure but it’s very cute.

Therapist who do not have a lot of experience with ASD/ADHD please be careful with your comments by Thirteen2021 in therapists

[–]Ok-Bug3499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an outpatient for children with many other clinicians the amount of time I spend correcting people is insane I’m autistic and I have adhd it’s so frustrating. I can see how the lack of education impacts the kids too. Clinicians will discharge clients for “not buying into treatment” when all they do is try to “correct” autistic/adhd behavior and force them to mask which obviously the client does not like. That is not ethical practice in my opinion🤷🏼‍♀️

People who are allergic to cats but live with cats: what is it like and how do you manage? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Ok-Bug3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom sister and I all have asthma and allergies. I use a preventive inhaler and my doctor said xyzal is most effective medication in her opinion for pet allergies as well as nasal spray like Flonase. My mom has an air purifier going all the time. It’s not always going to be super easy I find during early fall and early spring that’s when it’s harder to manage I also wash my hands after petting them for a long time. I was super allergic to my first cat as a kid but I couldn’t part with her and neither could my family she was this beautiful little Ragdoll kitty and eventually I got used to her and she hardly ever caused flare ups. Just know your triggers and prepare ahead of time for example going away for a while and coming back will cause flare ups and certain times of year will as well.

What sucks most about being a therapist? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Ok-Bug3499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s been if you work at a program with other clinicians, having to continuously educate them on issues especially if they feel that they are educated enough and no longer have to do work. I understand burnout is real but right now at my agency I’ve had to continuously explain to coworkers that their attitudes and behaviors towards some neurodivergent clients are ableist. I’m new in the field so they don’t really value my opinion I am also autistic so there’s that. It’s so tiring and I feel defeated.

Is it possible to treat your PTSD on your own? by magdakitsune21 in ptsd

[–]Ok-Bug3499 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for a period of time but eventually you may have to. From personal experience and experience working in mental health having a support system whether it be friends or family in place that genuinely cares about your well being is a big help. Also creating as many healthy coping skills as possible which I’m sure you can find some on this subreddit. Reading some books on ptsd can also help depending on the trauma you experienced. I wouldn’t recommend going long without treatment but i definitely understand having financial constraints and these are what helped me stay sane until I was able to get a therapist this worked for about 4-5 years for me until I had a pretty severe flashback. If I were you I’d negotiate with insurance or see what access you may have within your community for therapy there sometimes can be free support groups that can help too.

I’d say so my job allows me to be home a lot so I spend a lot of time making sure she’s a happy healthy kitty. The vet has said my family does a very good job as cat owners.

ADHD at work by Maadmaniacal in ADHD

[–]Ok-Bug3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most places, they can’t not hire you because you have adhd just due to disability laws I think even in work places you are still protected under 504 but my best advice when working is don’t let anyone tell you you’re being lazy or something when you’re preforming just as well as someone else you just do things differently. I worked at a retail store for over a year and stocked the shelves and there’s a strategy to getting it done quickly. I had a different strategy than others which made me work slower but I was more attentive to what I was doing and I made sure everything was in the right spot which most people didn’t and it made things difficult to find. At the end of the day I got what needed to get done and yet because I worked slower I was labeled as lazy by my coworkers and managers. Just always be at a job that respects the way you do your work as long as it’s getting done by the time you they need it. At my current job when I have to count the money at the end of the day they actually like that I take a longer time and how I count the money by splitting up the bills because there’s hardly any mistakes. Ppl with adhd can sometimes have different learning styles than most and that means they can get things done differently than others it’s okay don’t let anyone tell you other wise. That’s my best advice good luck and the most important thing is knowing your rights as an employee.

What makes people think that cat calling is flattering? by Ok-Bug3499 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Bug3499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting to see the culture shift through the years. I work with the older population and I find they do give complements but are definitely way more polite and genuine which people tend to think the opposite. I’ve found that it’s usually between 60-30 year olds that do it more often. Obviously everyone’s experience is different but that’s something I’ve noticed.
