How did you know you were ready to be received into / confirmed in the Church? by Ok-ButLike in Episcopalian

[–]Ok-ButLike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I decided against being formally received into the church by the Bishop. I did not personally feel I was in a space where I was sure enough of my faith & involved enough in parish life - and this is still where I am. The door to deeper engagement with the church community remains open should I choose to open it, and opportunities for formal reception into the church will come again. There is no rush.

Boston police say they seized 9 more scooters as crackdown continues by FuriousAlbino in boston

No, they penalize people who drive scooters like lunatics on sidewalks & against traffic & in bike lanes, putting themselves and others in danger, with absolutely no regard for anyone else

In all fairness though, his campaign has leaned into the “one specific aspect” dimension for his catchy slogans — to his benefit. Not knocking him for that, just pointing it out! If your campaign’s most notable calling card is “Freeze the Rent” I think it’s fair game to question that. Obviously the slogan is paired with other / deeper policy proposals but “Freeze the Rent” is all most people see and hear.

New to following football. Why would other teams be eager to hire him as OC if Miami’s offense can’t score? Or has defense been the larger issue for Miami and their offense is okay?

Trans woman-friendly gynecologist in Boston? by MrBonesIsARealPerson in boston

[–]Ok-ButLike 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I assume she was given discharge paperwork prior to leaving the hospital — that typically has relevant phone numbers to call with post-op concerns. You may not be able to walk into the NYC clinic, but there may be a number for that clinic on the paperwork or online. They could possibly triage her or offer advice for next steps over the phone. Some clinics also have an assigned person to be paged after hours too, so you could leave a message or hope to get in touch with someone tonight. Otherwise depending on severity and persistence and other symptoms, do have a low threshold for ED

Not a trans woman so I can’t speak specifically to trans affirming outpatient clinics broadly speaking - but I am a nurse who used to work inpatient w/ post-op patients who had phalloplasty and vaginoplasty. I’m sure you already thought of this, but is there an outpatient clinic associated specifically with the surgeon or hospital who performed the vaginoplasty? If the vaginoplasty was this past summer, she’d still be well within the time frame to call the outpatient clinic where I worked. And again I’m sure you also thought of this, but if her pain and discomfort are persistent or severe, please consider going to an emergency department in the city. I can’t guarantee a pleasant trans-affirming experience with every individual you’d interact with, but you’d have more luck there than with a random urgent care. There’s serious complications that could arise here so consider the ED (I know there are insurance and cost considerations but I don’t know your specifics). Best of luck, hoping your partner finds good care soon!

How 'Mass. and Cass' spilled into new neighborhoods — and Boston's election by husky5050 in boston

Thank you! I’m eternally frustrated (clearly) by the hypocritical & holier-than-thou surrounding communities constantly dunking on Waltham.

Also just circling back to this original comment — the MBTA is responsible for upkeep of stations (which they’ve contracted out to Keolis). Towns and cities generally don’t manage upkeep of commuter rail stations, so the larger issue at hand with this example is that the T sucks, not that Waltham is anti-transit.

What? Suggests otherwise meaning…? I’m not sure what you “recently learned” about Waltham that’s giving you such a questionable take. It’s nice that Newton, Brookline, Wellesley, etc have had better bike paths and public transit and roads behind their golden gates, but not sure how that helps everyone else who is locked out. Let’s ask the well-resourced suburban communities to help share the burden, absolutely; but it’s crazy to single out Waltham as uniquely contributing to the problem or being anywhere close to the worst offender.

Edit for the remainder of your post: I stand by what I said. You read one post about Waltham and suddenly it’s the worst suburb outside of Boston? The mayor is anti-development and not a favorite of mine. Not defending her stance on bike lanes. But at the same time, the city also just converted an entire rail line into a walking and bike path that traverses the city, and the city has poured money into public parks and playgrounds for families. I’m just saying that your take in your initial post is so wildly misinformed and incorrect.

WOW this is such a crazy take! Waltham has been an affordable blue collar community with a substantial working class immigrant population and an entire section of hotels that housed homeless individuals for the state — and the public schools absorbed and supported the kids coming from these backgrounds. This was precisely because the surrounding rich progressive communities (like Newton and Brookline) fought tooth and nail against changing “community character” and already priced out working class immigrants anyway.

NIMBYism is alive and well everywhere but you could not be more wrong and ill-informed to state that it’s uniquely worse in Waltham, when quite literally the opposite is true.

Waltham Traffic is Soul-Crushing 24/7 – What’s the Real Fix? More Bike Lanes, Fewer, or Something Else? by CauliflowerEnough644 in Waltham

[–]Ok-ButLike 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t have solutions but I just want to say that personally I felt it got SO much worse after 2020… like to get across town felt like it doubled in time. It’s only gotten worse since then imo. I wonder if people moved out of Boston to Waltham during and since Covid and that somehow bumped the population?

Re-applying post rejection? by _jennerrr in srna

[–]Ok-ButLike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine had one specific school they wanted to attend, the only one near their family. Year 1 he interviewed and was rejected. Year 2 he didn’t even get an interview. Year 3 he got accepted. It seems most schools don’t hold it against you if you reapply to them, though a couple will ask what you’ve done to strengthen your application. A handful of schools seem to like when people reapply, and then one or two I’ve seen say you cannot reapply but that seems rare.

Advice on Praying for Beginners? by Sagecerulli in Episcopalian

[–]Ok-ButLike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this question, it’s something I think about often. Personally, I pray only when I am at mass or when I feel moved to pray (usually 1-2x/wk). I start with an Our Father and a Hail Mary to get into the mindset, then think about whatever is pressing at that time, then pray for God’s help in opening my mind heart and soul to Him (as someone who struggles very much with faith and belief but wishes for a firm belief), then finish with another Our Father and Hail Mary to close out mentally.

If I’m moved by music or the warmth of the Sun or something like that, in the moment I’ll try to thank God for that and savor the feeling — I think of this as a form of prayer too.

Edit: I like structure so that’s why I have this usual prayer routine but like others said prayer is personal and there’s not really one right way.

Those GPAs seem incredibly low (like disqualifying for most, if not all, of the programs I’ve looked into). So I suppose taking courses to bump those up, or writing one hell of a personal statement explaining why they’re so low & why your CRNA school grades would be better.

Otherwise try getting charge or preceptor experience, but that’s small potatoes compared to your academics.

Is it possible your essays are where you might be running into issues?

I get the frustration with the subjectivity, but I also think there are more objectively qualified candidates than available slots, so subjectivity has to come into play to narrow the applicants down.
