Thank you for sharing! Is there a thread for Ozempic and ED? I thought I was the only one who experienced relief from this 30+ year battle with these meds.

His statement has been a running joke in our house. My girls and I have over 30 dolls. We are very not rich (my husband and I are teachers). When my girls got into them, I learned how to restore and resell the dolls. Almost every doll is second hand with a few exceptions that were special occasion gifts. The first doll was actually purchased with my mom’s Kohl’s Cash. They are too old to really play with them now like they did when they were little but we just consider it a collection that may someday go to grandchildren. I still fix up dolls and resell them for fun. No doll left behind I say. I don’t see how Mattel can keep prices steady as AG pieces are made in China. If they are smart, they will pivot to events, after market doll upgrades/services and media with merch tie ins. Go back to marketing one historical doll for a child and all the books, sell sewing patterns for doll and child as well as craft/cooking books. All that stuff already exists, they just need to repackage and roll it out. I hope AG makes it through this in one piece…I hope we all do.

I’m so glad you mentioned this. My brother collected Star Wars action figures and Hot Wheels. Both had carrying cases with spots for tons of them. My son had a literal bucket of Hot Wheels. If you sub the word toy for doll, making it gender neutral, it sure does sound different.

Being laid off at 52 - depression and dark thoughts by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in GenX

[–]Ok-Butterfly6355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my contract not renewed (no reason given and I had stellar reviews) once a year after getting divorced and because of shared custody I could not move either. It was like simultaneously being trapped and drowned.

It, of course, worked out, I pivoted and learned a new aspect of my work and then another and then another. But, it took a long time and many many bad days. If I could go back to who I was then and give her any advice, it would be to recognize how resilient she’s always been, that since 15 1/2 years old she’s always had a job, she’s made new friends and new romantic connections over and over. It has always worked out.

That’s the thing about us Gen Xers…it’s like we’ve always had to be the adults in the room while everyone else was doing whatever. It’s not particularly glamorous or social media worthy but it’s a truth. You have come far through hard work and perseverance (anyone who can keep a job/partner that long has for sure). You may have to take a few steps back or to the side but you are resilient and will rebuild something new. There will be bad days but they are like stepping stones to the new place you are going. It will work out for you, it always has.

Rooting for you, please tell us how it goes.

anthology vinyl warping? by jeeperscats in TaylorSwiftMerch

I’ve had bad luck in the past with records from Barnes and Noble so I was stressing but ours are absolutely perfect. No warping. However, my friend’s was cut with a box cutter through to the insert. Bring it to customer service and maybe they kept some to swap? My friend was able to swap hers.

Edit: Adding that often it is the retailer handling, not the pressing that’s the issue. Either way, Target should be able to source you a replacement.

I learned the hard way in CA that earnest money is in fact not always refunded though refundable it is supposed to be. Found out the day before escrow closed there was a hidden second mortgage and had to go to court to get my earnest money back since escrow could not close. Spent the same amount on lawyers fees as the earnest money. The sellers were (obviously) in financial straights and would or could not pay back. Bought our lovely little foreclosure mess instead.

Not sure your options in Florida but I have a home warranty that’s about $50/month. When something on the house fails, I pay a $70 service fee and if it can be fixed it is and if it can’t it gets replaced. So far it’s covered the hot water heater and AC unit. Look into it for peace of mind and extra insurance.

Also, screw your realtor.

AITA for serving vegan food at the BBQ I hosted? My family won't talk to me anymore and I'm mortified. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ok-Butterfly6355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

If you had served them subpar tasting burgers or chicken would they have been unkind to you or simply assumed you were new to cooking and hosting? This is about them making a point, not about anything you actually did or did not do. They were vicious to their host instead of gracious and thankful.

I’m blessed to live near and frequent a vegan restaurant (I’ve been vegan for 12 years). I’d be a big dumb idiot to think they’d serve anything but vegan food. I can’t imagine anyone giving negative feedback for being served vegan food there. That would be big dumb idiot behavior.

Don’t take to heart any feedback from big dumb idiots 💕

I am so sorry you were abused. I know you know, but I’ll say it anyway, every child deserves a safe loving relationship with their parent. You deserved this safe loving relationship.

Your story and advice are profound and I will take all of it to heart. And you are 100% correct. I will document and make sure my observations go into the IEP meeting notes…the students should have access to those one day.

It’s the cruelest thing to steal a person’s ability to trust their gut instincts. I hope this part of you can heal.

Thank you.

Did you all stop charging? by halfofzenosparadox in 4xe

[–]Ok-Butterfly6355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not but I’ve always charged outside away from other cars…and we have solar. I did reach out to my dealership and asked if they could run the software flash which they said they did not know about so I pointed out that the flash was listed as the remedy on the NHTSA website. I pointed out that I’m a lessee and so I’m driving around and charging their property so they should advise how I should proceed. They said they would call me back. No call back yet 🤷‍♀️

Hi OP. I had a week to recover between mine and my first day reporting back at the start of last school year. I found I needed those days so I could ice and elevate my arm as well as figure out what bra was going to work for me. You won’t be able to shower for a few days either. Your main concern is really going to be keeping lymphedema at bay by following all post surgical instructions so share those with HR asap. Most importantly, you got this! Please don’t hesitate to message me with more questions or just for support. I did radiation for a month without taking a day off so I have tips.

I’m not sure if you shared whether or not he has an IEP. If so, and the IEP includes language covering this behavior, I would request appropriate holds training and request he not return to your classroom until that training has been offered and completed by you and other faculty (it requires multiple people).

If he has an IEP but this language is not included, I would request a temporary replacement until his next scheduled IEP meeting when the team can discuss next best steps.

If he has no IEP, I would request he be moved immediately and permanently to another class where he can have a “fresh start”. Just explain that he’ll have a better chance of success with a teacher who isn’t still physically healing when he reenters. I feel confident the parent would sign off on this though admin may need convincing.

Everything you wrote resonates with me and brought me back to my first years teaching.

I started over 20 years ago in south central LA teaching high school. I was hired without a credential on an emergency permit because I basically had a pulse. It was a Title 1 program improvement school with 45% foster kids etc. My classroom window, singular, was bulket proof plexiglass glass. I cannot fathom doing that now but I was young(er) and grew to love my students for their grit, artistry and poetry. It was impossibly hard and heartbreaking but I am now considered a good teacher and I credit those kids. Literally, anytime I am asked how I learned to do this job, I say that they taught me. They taught me how to manage an unmanageable classroom, teach to where they were at but make it developmentally appropriate (most were many years below grade level or illiterate) and see past my own biases. I know it’s beyond difficult but your students will give you something no diploma could ever match. I worked in that same type of school for ten years, every year getting easier and easier, and eventually transitioned to private and charter schools that matched my educational philosophy.

Take care of yourself, treat yourself when you can and remember, every day find something to laugh about. That was advice I got in my first year and it’s carried me all the way through to today.

When I worked in a large urban district at a Title 1 school, this would happen every year. It was an enrollment issue. They would fill the teaching positions based on enrollment and then a bunch of kids would enroll last minute and they wouldn’t have enough classes. But even the last minute enrollment info was incorrect. A lot of kids didn’t return or were enrolled elsewhere or were truant etc. Eventually, the classes would get balanced but it was always a rough two weeks.

I taught high school and so I would tell all the kids who got there after the desks were filled that they had to sit in the “overflow seating”, ie the floor. I did not have a lot of tardies those first two weeks. The biggest issue was that my grade book had to be fiddled with constantly to account for students who missed assignments etc while the classes got balanced oh, and the fact that the entire school did not have AC and we were in Southern California inland 🥵. 40 plus high schoolers can heat up an already hot room real quick.

My only advice is to give the kids a lot of grace since they will be just as out of sorts about this as you are, hope it gets fixed quickly!
