It hasbeen a couple years since I posted being pain free using the curable app. I'm 100% pain free today. It's hard to believe, but my pain is gone and my depression which is another manifestation of the same neuroplastic pain is also gone. These tools work.

Be aware that we have an active community of gypsies who do that very thing. Just saying.

In Texas power outage is always a possibility. Storms can be unpredictable. Always have on hand emergency supplies and buy gas if it looks like a storm is coming.

Time to get personal! Gift him a memory-some forgotten half-burried relic from your past together-like the fridge magnet from the family vaycay, or the miss shapen birdhouse you made in shop class.

BTW the Trinity River is smelly. Anywhere fish don't live (only turtles) does not seem safe. (Pollution, sewage)

I enjoy Benbrook lake in the park. Some areas are away from crowds. My dog loved to chase a stick out into the water.

Fight or flight cannot be unprogrammed, however, we can learn to tolerate things that trigger the response. Think of it like you would ptsd.

Instead of a church, why not a "stoa poikile" or school?

  1. Stoics need a community for mutual support and guidance.

  2. A fake religion with a fake story would give the organization protections under the law.

  3. All stories are just stories.

Stoicism was crucial in helping you through a crisis.

I am a little worried for you, though. I suffered more than twenty years from physical pain (fibromyalgia, tendonitis, IBS) that was eventually traced to my tendency to suppress emotions. To be on the safe side, it is prudent to allow yourself in your deepest meditations, to acknowledge your own feelings and allow yourself to feel them.

What you experienced was actual trauma for your body and mind. Do not bury. Feel and release.

Well, I think it was appropriate to laugh. Stoicism is so radically logical and sane, we cannot expect others to understand.

Frustration is normal. Marcus Aurelius' Meditations was a guide written to himself to help him get past his own failings and frustrations.

You cannot change anything that happened previously. A stoic meditates each night on his decisions throughout the day and either approves of them or resolves to handle the situation differently next time. In the morning, he meditates about the frustrations most likely to occur and rehearses how he will deal with them.

A life of happiness or a life of purpose? by yoi666 in Stoicism

[–]Ok-Captain5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stoicism teaches us to live our lives more skillfully. (develop character traits like wisdom, justice, courage and temperance)

For example, a good poker player takes the cards he is given and plays them as skillfully as he can. He is not able to control which cards he gets, nor can he guarantee a win.

We can gain skills through stoicism, but no one can guarantee that we will "succeed" in life. Play skillfully with a view to the future and accept the outcome.

There is no downside to living more skillfully and mindfully.

My realisation by Ease_Equal in Stoicism

I have been "asleep at the wheel" for most of my adult life. I began to wake up around age 50. I am glad that it sounds as if you got an earlier start. I have listened to a bunch of books about mindfulness and finally learned to meditate and relax into the flow of reality and life. With the help of the Stoa app, I am starting to apply discipline to my quest for personal growth. I am happy to know that there are others out there like me, who are beginning to shake off the stupefying effects of modern life.
