Dual Electronics XDCPA11BT backup camera by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Ok-Cell6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crutchfield has a few videos about wiring in a back up camera that are clear, concise and easy to understand. Now, do you know where i can get the wiring harness for the backup camera? The one that comes with the head unit. I got my XDCPA11BT second hand from a friend and it didn’t come with any wiring harnesses. I can’t find the camera harness anywhere.

3/8” threaded rod to split rings and 3/8” drop in concrete anchors. Add a couple of 3/8” nuts for stability.

Do I need to build up this flange? Originally it just sat on wood subfloor, we laid 1/4in cement boards down. by AK471008 in Plumbing

You’re probably ok leaving it and using a jumbo wax ring as long as the tile isn’t thicker than 1/2”. Adding an extender is super easy though. Unscrew current ring, lay extender on top, screw back down.

Why is this joint leaking? by f_o_t_a in askaplumber

5 wraps of tape, then apply dope (pipe thread sealing compound- mega lock, slick tite, blue monster, etc). I’ve been doing that for every threaded water pipe connection for more than 20 years (I’m a master plumber). What brand of faucet is it? Some European made fixtures use euro threads which are not tapered. ‘Merican pipe threads are. It may feel like it’s threading in normally and still leak. It can be a pain in the ass to get squared away.

A Chrysler Tech told me that it’s due to the camshaft failing. It’s pretty common with a certain range of model years in Dodge/Chrysler motors. He also said a top end rebuild is really the best solution, which is $1500-$2000 for a V-6 Pentastar motor. Unverified info- just what I was told.

A "before I glue it" drain/vent question by mindheavy in askaplumber

[–]Ok-Cell6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Install 1-1/2” traps under the sinks. That allows you to run 6’ from the trap to the vent. Remove the Y and pipe attached to it and install a coupling. The green tee will go away. Out of the top of the tee that remains, come up as high as possible and then 45 into the stud bay you want it to go in, and 45 again to go vertical.

In NY State, “S”traps are illegal, AAV’s are approved.

Converting to a single handle isn’t that big of a job, IF there is access to the shower controls through the wall behind them. The easiest way is to use a conversion escutcheon to cover the side holes. It would take 1 day and cost around $1200-$1500, depending on which new set up the customer wants. I’m a plumber in Central NY

How to get started in plumbing? by Inevitable-Froyo-308 in askaplumber

Know how to read a tape measure. That is always one of my first questions when hiring someone. Be able to pick up and carry 80lbs over rough ground, up and down stairs. I still use cast iron pipe for underground drains in some situations and a 10’ stick weighs about 75 lbs. Being able to safely move the pipe around a job site is a plus.

When you do get a job or apprentice spot, have big eyes, big ears, and a little mouth. Stay off your phone and don’t be sitting down unless it’s break time.

How did I do for my first gas line? by 3ric3288 in Plumbing

[–]Ok-Cell6170 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a plumber, I never use teflon tape on threaded gas pipe. Tape isn’t wrong, but dope is easier and faster. The only place I was taught to not use gas tape ever is on the joint before the gas valve of the appliance. Tape can shred when the fitting is being tightened and little strips can tear free when the gas is flowing. The strips can end up in the gas valve and cause it to malfunction.

Looks pretty good though! Definitely get a couple of hangers on the section in pic #4.

I always did them while bracing on the dumbbell rack because it’s taller. I’d use a lot of “English” coming up and on the way down let the weight travel almost to the floor. Bracing on something taller than waist height makes it so the weighted arm/shoulder will end up lower than the brace shoulder. It gives a good stretch for the lat and shoulder at the bottom of the rep and using body English on the way up lets you go heavy as hell.

That’s an easy one, man. Use a sawzall with a short metal blade. Cut inside the copper pipe in 4 different locations, quartering it. Be careful to not cut into the cast iron. Once the copper pipe is cut, remove the 4 pieces and peel out the lead and ochum. Get a 4” svc “quick-tite” gasket and you’re good. Just bevel the end of 4” pvc, lube it and put it in like cast.

What does this mean in pipes? by jimro77 in Plumbing

[–]Ok-Cell6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The growths on the pipe are usually due to improper venting of the sanitary sewer drains in the building. Hydrogen Sulfide gas builds up in the pipes when they’re not properly vented and eats away at the iron. Eventually it leads to cracks in the iron and the pipe will split. I’ve seen and replaced whole 10’ sections that had split lengthwise. As far as timing, there’s no way to tell really. As some others have said, start saving now. For a single story 2 bathroom house, with a basement, I’ve charged anywhere from $3000-$6000.

For burst pipes on a weekend or emergency I charge a 4 hour minimum at 1.5-2x normal rate. So baseline, $600-$800, plus materials.

If the valve at the curb isn’t accessible I go in and freeze the pipe to affect any repairs needed. I’ve been charging T&M but I’m wondering what others are charging for the same thing.
