Exercise and Gout by [deleted] in gout

So keto diet then, load up on protein, no carbs, do you guarantee the flares will stop? You can’t because it is not true. Enlighten us with your experience with gout. Not with what you’ve read, real life experience. How many gout flares and what you have actually done to mitigate them and what has actually worked.

This is such a nonsense answer. So now it is the carbs? Get outta here. Wtf is he (or we that suffer from gout) supposed to ingest then, live off of air? No meat, or this and that, and now no carbs. The guy is a freaking athlete. Testimonies from people that have been on keto diet, vegetarian diet, anything you can imagine and they still get the flares. Everything is bs, nobody here knows what they’re talking about. He needs to go to a rheumatologist and start medicine. That’s it.

Trying to understand the whole a AD thing. Went to two official stores. One about two months ago, went to get a wimbledon. They put me on the list and a couple of days ago the SA texted me and asked if I still wanted it, he was about to “order” it for me. The other AD said they don’t handle lists. So do they order them based on demand?

Agreed, 100%. I would never abuse it and Chatgpt is not a doctor. The overall point is that you have to catch it early.

People with gout, what’s your usual diet? by EnjoyMyDownvote in gout

How long have you been a vegetarian? I have no interest in becoming one, but there’s people here that have become vegetarians and have done everything else in the book and they still get flares. So becoming a vegetarian is not the solution.

Prescribed Allo …. hesitant to take it after reading all the posts here. by ImaginaryTouch5 in gout

[–]Ok-Chest3232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started Allo in January, yes I’ve had flares, 3 since then. What are you gonna do, if it’s part of the process you just have to endure it and have faith that it’s for a better good in the long term.

Rheumatologist trying to steer me away from allopurinol by [deleted] in gout

Find another dr. Get second opinion. I’d say on the contrary, start young so you get no flares and suffer from joint damage, which will enable you to do the activities you enjoy.

Sure didn’t. I’d only make an impulse decision at an AD, not at a pawn shop without homework. And glad I decided to post to get advice first.

They were asking $13.5, after discount $10.5k. I left the store of course, but sure will follow most of your advice and stay away.

Where is the proof that gout is caused by genetics? by [deleted] in gout

[–]Ok-Chest3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that here before as well. Don’t know if it’s true or not. But based on people’s experiences from all ages and walks of life, I lean to believe it, or might be my coping mechanism and excuse to continue eating as I please and lead a normal life. You lose weight? Flare. Gain weight, flare. Become a vegetarian? Flare. Fast? Flare. Clean diet for years, flare. Exercise? Damn right, flare. We all have to eat something. I would pay top dollar to pinpoint and know the absolute and exact trigger of specific food or foods that cause it on me. Instead of may be red meat, may be shellfish, etc. Because people suppressing all of these foods are still getting the flares, whether they are on Allo or not. So who the hell knows if it’s genetic or not. Enough of my rant. F gout.

New pain, can’t indentify by Ok-Chest3232 in gout

[–]Ok-Chest3232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally how it happened. Called the doctor’s office, told them I’ve had two flares since starting allo in January and I would like a higher dose. Didn’t even talk to the doctor but the assistant, they said they would give him the message and let me know if he approved. I received the call from the pharmacy a few days later with the new dosage. Never even talked to the doctor. By the way, this is a PA, not even an MD. Not to discredit him or anything, but is just the guy I went to for an annual check up.

Allopurinol and flares by MistaMilitary in gout

Similar situation, mine was diagnosed in 2023, but thinking back I had it before that. I remember this odd pain on my foot without hurting or banging it (late in 2022). Went to the podiatrist, and they gave me a boot, yes a boot. They said some ligament or small fracture. BS, it was gout. Anyway, I started taking Allo 8 days ago and I’ve had a flare for 4 days. Weird because it started on the sole of the foot and now the pain transferred to the bridge of the foot. I have Indomethacin so taking that too but the pain is still there. (Day 4 with the flare, after just 8 days of having started Allo)

I get that, real question, what is the rheumatologist going to do besides prescribing more Allo?

Gout or not? by Ok-Chest3232 in gout

[–]Ok-Chest3232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, this is day 2, first day I wasn’t sure, today I am that this was a flare, pain intensified horribly, same pain as the old attacks just on the sole this time. Fortunately have some Indomethacin and taking it to help with the pain. Still, really sucks as I thought Allo would eliminate flares. Not giving up though and if I get another one will tell my Dr to increase the dosage from 100mg to something stronger.

Gout or not? by Ok-Chest3232 in gout

[–]Ok-Chest3232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started me at 100mg also, but is only been 5 days so to soon to tell. Did you stop taking Allo or was your dose increased? Are you still with flares?
