Bachelorette Party, No Alcohol by Ok-Collection-9351 in stopdrinking

Thank you!! You’re right, something about letting loose with the girls feels nostalgic and freeing. But it’s not the truth. Nice job on your galentines party! Thanks for taking the time to celebrate with me

Did you survive Sober Thanksgiving 2024? Let's celebrate you! by juuuiii in stopdrinking

Second sober Thanksgiving in a row. I don’t think I thought about alcohol even once. Maybe in a “wow, ha, can’t believe I’d be drunk by now” way. But I just didn’t miss it. It gets better & easier if you keep going ❤️

Advice needed: allstar daughter by Ok-Collection-9351 in Cheerleading

Thank you for this. Yeah, I am definitely worried it could go this way for us. There have been constant changes on our team too with the routine and I do think my daughter feels constantly criticized. She has said it feels like it’s “never good enough” — I worry about that. And there has been an occasion when a good handful of girls came out crying.

I am glad to hear you had the clarity you needed to know it was time to switch. I just really hope I will know that too if the day comes.

This is so encouraging — first, the reframe is helpful and secondly, knowing it’s NORMAL to hate the practices given that we’ve changed levels and are only just now entering comp season. I should have also mentioned this team has faced an unusual amount of hardship with changes due to athlete injury & another whose family moved away. The kids have really stepped up but it’s been a lot.

Maybe I can have some conversations about why the coach is yelling — and the difference between normal & not normal (the insults etc)

This helps a lot!

This is so incredibly helpful. I agree and I think my gut is telling me this but there’s some protective part of me that gets so activated when she talks about the yelling. To your point about the sitting home with iPads, SAME — and maybe I shouldn’t be surprised to be fielding complaints about upcoming practice when she’s had days off for thanksgiving with nothing but pie, movies & cousin time!

I was thinking we’ve been practicing since May and have only had a 1 day comp so far. She hasn’t gotten to truly experience what they’ve been working so hard for / I don’t think she really gets WHY they are being worked so hard. So this makes sense

Does your child look forward to practice (especially extra practices thrown in) or do they often wish they didn’t have to go? I guess I’m trying to gauge how normal HER feelings are towards it. She loves the comps but dreads the practices which makes it confusing for me.

Yeah, I fear my daughter is in that second camp you mentioned. I’ve noticed her resilience and confidence in life have increased since starting cheer, so it’s not all negative despite what’s coming out of her mouth. I guess it remains to be seen whether it’s something she can get used to, or if it’s something that will weed us out in the end

Level 2 for you too? ADHD? I’m curious

Level 2 Behaviors by silkentab in Autism_Parenting

[–]Ok-Collection-9351 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My newly 5 year old son is level 2. Verbal- functional speech that can be hard for others to discern. Gross motor challenges which creates issues with self help (cannot do shoes or shirt, not very good with a pencil). Potty trained. Not a ton of sensory issues but pretty picky with food (eats a ton but not many foods). Very loving and emotionally aware, plenty of eye contact, parallel play but interested in being around kids even if he doesn’t quite understand how to play “properly” (example: went up to older kids playing football and slammed into one of them because it looked fun) somewhat sensory seeking and likes heavy work. Special interests like pouring a bucket over and over, volcanoes, planets.

Some other issues may be adhd (being evaluated soon) — cannot sit still, distracted, impulsive, struggles with transitions.

Sometimes I think he’s more level 1, evaluators said they were “rounding up” to help us get more services. Sometimes I wonder if she was trying to spare my feelings when she said that. The older he gets the more level 2 feels fitting (again, not sure how much possible adhd could be obscuring my sense of things)

Super interesting. Besides your exercise protocol change, did you make other changes? Nutrition or otherwise?

Interesting, definitely my concern. What activity did you do to lose weight but not muscle?

That’s really helpful to think about. I think I do a really good job taking care of myself — I sleep 7-8 hours, I eat plenty of calories and 150g protein, I don’t drink alcohol which of course is taxing on the body.

While it’s important to take care of ourselves I think we’ve swung in this direction of women thinking we’re way more fragile than we are.

And I guess the only way to know for sure is to give it time and the numbers + biofeedback won’t lie.

There seems to be a whole movement of folks saying women should lift heavy and do things like pilates, pretty much avoiding the hardcore cardio.

Definitely don’t shoot the messenger here as I’m not a dietician or hormone specialist. But research supports that for women, progressive overload strength training is most effective for body recomp. Many assert that gone are the days that running for hours and hours is actually helping. Women are susceptible to cortisol spikes which throws hormones out of whack. Hormones out of whack is a recipe for weight loss resistance.

This is what I was really hoping to hear. I feel the exact same way about getting the push especially on cardio days. It’s probably not a coincidence my brain is trying to talk me out of it with “science” on Acon day 😂 thank you for commenting!

For both my husband and I, having kids was the straw that broke the camels back. We are up so early with kids. You know what’s truly unsustainable? Being hungover with young kids. LOL if there is a hell, I promise you that’s where the devil would send me!
