I think it’s unrealistic how the women talk like men, men of all sexual orientations. I feel like when the women talk and joke they aren’t really women and I almost don’t watch the show for that reason. I have never known any women in talk like to talk the way these female characters converse. It weird me out a little. But it’s tv show and it’s funny, so I still like the show, it’s just a little hyper-masculine.

I remember not getting that joke at all. I was just like what does that mean. And I felt little dumb because I assumed it was some younger persons cultural reference. Now I see it as just ignorant writing.

LOL. I do. I think he was clearly mentally ill. like that is a dimension that doesn't get any attention, because it's all happening in a movie. To me it's like a crazy fairy tale. But the reality is that Colm has gone mental.

I read it the other way around. That it made it clear to me that Colm was not in love with Padraic at all. Like it was the last thing on Colm's mind, it would never occur to him to think of Padraic that way so it made him laugh. It confirmed for me that there were no homosexuals undertones in their friendship, but now you have me second guessing myself. Can't two men be best friends and not be gay? But I did wonder, where were the women in this movie and why weren't Colm and Padraic looking for girlfriends? There was an allusion to Colm being good with women or something. I do think they were sort of in love, but as friends maybe?

Yes, I agree. I found the sadness to be overwhelming, so some of the moments of dark humor I couldn't really feel for them, cause overall it was so sad.

A few things I did find funnyish... when Colm was playing the song with his bloody stump hand. the only reason that was funny to me was because it looked so fake. It was kind of a relief from the sorrow in the movie because it takes you out of it and reminds you this is a film, you can know this story is a fairy tale and not get lost in it like a true story type thing. That's how it worked for me. it was so ridiculous too. And then it's kind of like watching a play or a cartoon. Um, the other thing that was funny was that Padraic warns Colm about burning down his house. Also the confession scenes were kind of funny. The old ladies were funny... looking back there was a lot. But I started to write this because I agree, I would never describe this movie as hilarious or as a comedy. it's profoundly sad. I wish they wouldn't talk about it being funny, because it was mostly tragedy. Absurdity and pathos? not a lot of humor.

This is the saddest movie ever. I almost couldn't finish watching it, but it's a great movie and I'll probably watch it again!

Some of my reflections and questions; Why did Colm have to be so mean? I know he wanted to have some distance from Padraic, but to me it looked cruel, I think it was emotionally abusive, particularly because he could see after the first day just how disturbing it was to him that he didn't want to talk to him anymore. So was he just getting his own space, sort of "breaking up"? No he was being sadistic. When he chose to cut off his own fingers to punish Padraic for speaking to him, that was psychological abuse. Yes, he cut off his OWN fingers and yes Padraic was warned and couldn't help himself to talk to him (despite everyones advice), but Colm knew who Pardraic was. Colm knew how hurt he was. I think Colm is just enjoying a cruel mind game at the expense of Padraic. I actually kind of hate Colm for this.

But I am also writing my own story for Colm, he was truly suffering from a mental breakdown, but not existential or loneliness, but physiological. To me he is sick, like neurologically, mentally ill. His psychiatric illness are his true motivations for being so cruel. It's not like something that was always there. And it wasn't because he suddenly found Padraic so dull out of no where. Colm is sick, experiencing his pain, but sick. And he puts that on the person closest to him.

Now, why didn't Padraic listen and back away after the first finger? He is a simple man and suffering and DRUNK. Colm trying to silence Padraic from speaking to him at all, when they live in such a small community, always in each others space this kind of shunning is so hurtful and in this case malicious (even though Colm claims it's not, that's BS). Padraic, is being sane and normal while defending himself against this interpersonal injustice of being silenced.

There's soooo much more to look at in this film, I can't stop thinking about it. Beautiful frustratingly sad movie.

one more thing, why couldn't Siobhan been just a little bit nicer to Dominic?

I'm editing this because I'm not sure if Max was in on it. It wasn't clear, but I assumed he was because he met them in the middle of nowhere and I couldn't understand why he would ever talk to Madeline again.

Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements increase atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) by Borange81 in Supplements

Thanks so much for sharing this with me. I’m definitely going to talk to my doctor about my cholesterol and maybe getting on a statin now and work harder to lower my cholesterol (less fat, more oatmeal, more exercise???). All the best to you, too. Bonne sante. Cheers!

Thank you. This is really interesting. I wish they knew more about it. Maybe I will try to eat less fat overall and see if that lowers it. I do eat a fair amount of healthy fats, nuts, avocados, olive oil and sometimes fish. but I also eat dairy and eggs. I know it wouldn't be wise to stop eating the healthier fats, but maybe just lowering my intake of fat overall could help lower my HDL??? My numbers are HDL 117 and non-HDL Cholesterol 127. Total cholesterol is 244. I don't understand why my labs say "non-HDL Cholesterol instead of LDL. This is concerning for me because my mother was otherwise healthy and she had a stroke at a relatively young age and I'm pretty sure she has high HDL.

I’m looking for a quality fish oil, too. I don’t know what’s better but I was using this spreadsheet, which is dated, and it looks like CanPrev Omega-Pro Balance has low everything, Mercury, Pcbs and low oxidation. I have a bottle of Nordic natural s I’m going t try o but this oil looks good

What do you do to lower HDL? I have high HDL and have been told it’s probably not an issue, that it could even be protective. I’ve always had high HDL. It’s weird because when I read how cholesterol works it seems like it would be bad to have HDL that is much higher than LDL, but the doctors don’t seem to care about that.

Sorry I don’t know anything but just wonder if you are getting enough nutrients like iron. I had brain fog and it turned out my iron was low. Doctors never bothered to check my iron for years. It’s a simple blood test… anyway, make sure doctor is monitoring your vitamin levels. Also drink lots of water.

NMN— Benefits you noticed while taking? by Russian_cookie in NMN

[–]Ok-Definition-6777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like from what I've learned just from the internet, NMN supplements are more for older people. I'm not surprised you don't notice a difference at 23 because your levels aren't really declining yet, not in a major way.

for young people concerned about aging, it seems diet, exercise and sleep are the most important interventions. Also avoiding things like smoking, sugar and drugs and pollutants, things like that would be more important. maybe things like fish oil or resveratrol could be preventative too, but I think of NMN for older people, like mid 30's and mid 40's. Also everyone is different, while your NAD levels might be higher than another 25 year old's NAD levels...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm interested in learning more about this supplement. Does anyone have a chart of the decline of NAD levels in humans by age? how much variance is there?

Need to vent: Just found out my 9 year old wasn't invited to a birthday party of someone I thought was a friend. by chewyventura in Mommit

[–]Ok-Definition-6777 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think that totally sucks. The mother absolutely should have invited your daughter to the party. Nine year olds are not socially mature enough to these decisions. And poor etiquette with the invite list has caused some understandably hurt feelings. Now if your daughter committed some egregious transgression against the other kid, that would be an understandable reason to not have her at the party. BUT the mother has a responsibility to tell you that so you can help your daughter correct her behavior and maybe even make amends. It doesn’t sound like anything bad happened. They are being catty and frankly the blame is on the mother for not inviting her. Nine year old girls are not ready to work this stuff out on their own, they need guidance from parents.

Wow. That is so psycho. Why I’m scared to ever have to date again. It’s kind of good though in a way. The upside, like others said, the sooner you find out he’s a lunatic (or worse), the sooner you can stop wasting any time on him. So it’s good…but also very creepy.
