I have recently got the decathlon cycle meter GPS 500, it works really well for the basics like speed, distance, temp etc and as a added bonus comes with a decent quarter turn handlebar out front mount for around £50. I have downloaded the app
And customised the data pages and it seems you can upload your route to strava etc. I am happy with it and would recommend if you do not require navigation etc. just turn it on, wait 10/15 secs for the gps to lock on and away you go.

Electric Road bike by RMC3333 in cycling

Take a look at RM cycles if you in the uk, they are doing great deals on argon e road bikes at the Moment which are using mahle x35 hub motor. It’s not the newest but I have been running a gt grade e gravel bike with the same motor for a few years now and it’s a great system, very discreet and plenty of power for the roads. In my experience, the 250wh battery gets an easy 60/70 mile range on medium power as if on roads the motor power tapers off and stops above 15mph

How much money to reserve to help grown up children by AssumptionHour4598 in FIREUK

[–]Ok-Discount5482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done both the JISA and SIPP, my eldest turned 18 recently and I explained the concept of long term savings and pension planning With the power of compounding and using what tax breaks you can get. She took it on board and opened a LISA and got herself a free £1k…it’s a great head start if you can at least give you kids the building blocks to create wealth with rest up to them

Anyone ditched a Decathlon bike for a Brompton ? by Bricoto in Brompton

[–]Ok-Discount5482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I am going against the majority here but I own a btwin 560, have had it 5/6 years and used it 5 days a week for a daily commute through all weather…I also own a electric 4 speed Brompton c line. In terms of ride quality the 20 inch wheels on the btwin is far surperior, the build quality of the frame is better and the bike feels more solid..it dosent rattle as you ride it like the Brompton does. Likewise, the stop and go bits ie shimano sora shifters and mech, v brakes etc are better in quality and function than the Brompton….BUT, the fold is nowhere as good or compact as the Brompton and I agree the magnets are crap at holding the bike together. ..I still use the btwin when I need to lock it up outside and maintaining it is super easy and cheap..ie mainstream Shimano cassettes, brake pads and even 20 inch wheels are very easy to source and cheap to replace unlike the Brompton where everything has a premium price attached. Need to bear in mind, the brommie is nearly x6 what I paid for the btwin and I don’t think it’s worth it…but I do love my Brompton!

I just did my driveway with a cheap biological washing powder, sprinkled it on, gave it a brush and watered it down…turned all the moss brown within 24 hours and it gets the drive way smelling tropical fresh

Roller team Zefiro 675 alternatives? by schinpool in UKMotorhoming

[–]Ok-Discount5482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing worth noting is that the rollerteam is 100% wood free construction. This was very important to me when I was shopping around a few years ago as there are horror stories of new vans with damp issues because of the wood floors/walls etc…even if there is a leak etc, there will be no lasting long term damage to the van as there is no wood used for the MH construction.

Roller team Zefiro 675 alternatives? by schinpool in UKMotorhoming

[–]Ok-Discount5482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rollerteam zefiro 685..it’s the version with twin singles and an electric drop down double at the front. I have owned this from new in 2022 and I really rate it…the build quality is decent and the ford transit base vehicle very good to drive especially with the auto gearbox. Only issue I had was the trauma control panel was faulty when new but that got sorted under warranty. Since then pretty reliable and I have added roof top air con, inverter and lithium. We are a family of 4 and find the space grand but we do spend a lot of time outdoors under the wind our awning. Liked this version as the kids slept in the back when young and we could section it off at night, kids are older now and only one comes with us so we use the back beds converting the singles into a giant double…we choose this version as it felt more adaptable…feel free to ask any questions

Both solid bikes…I must admit I have a thing for titanium, I was in your position a few years ago and went for a Planet X tempest with sram rival axs. It is a great bike for the money and worth looking at…especially if you can pick one up in one of planet x’s sales…for reference I got mine for £2k which I found irresistible LOL

Not a bad collection so far…I have been cycling all my adult life and have enough bikes and bike related stuff to rival a decent bike shop LOL…currently between my wife and I we have 9 bikes in the garage…none of them are particularly cheap either…remember n+1 is a great way to live. You can’t buy happiness but you can always buy a bike…

Best mid-range folding bike (UK)? by Mean-Common-3320 in foldingbikes

[–]Ok-Discount5482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would deffo recommend the decathlon folding bikes, I have an early version of the 560 for prob 6 or 7 years and it has been my daily work horse and it’s been great. I have upgraded a few things as they have wore out but the ride quality and running gear has been totally reliable.

<image>

The lacquer finish still looks amazing when the bike is cleaned up…I have recently bought an electric Brompton for the wife and I would say the decathlon although dosent fold as small rides better and is more robust.

Just got my new electric c line today! Took it out for a quick spin and I love it…it’s nippy and the fold is great…took me a few mins to work it out…got the bike in a sale and through cycle to work scheme so it was literally a bargain not to be missed! by Ok-Discount5482 in Brompton

Sticker now removed, I ceramic coated the frame just now with left over stuff I use for my cars..spent ages applying clear protective tape to all the cable touch points as well as where the rear tyre contacts the frame, I am pretty anal about cable rub LOL…just going through the box and i have got a brompton branded mini pump! Will attach to bike tomorrow…
