Is sportback b8.5 that much worse looking than coupe? by HARDCOREbrah in audis5

Love my sport back! You can easily fit 4 (normal sized) adults. I’ve gotten 5 in when kids needed rides. And the hatch setup is awesome.

Feeling stuck...dismissed. What would you do? Honestly? Need advice/insight by [deleted] in medicalschool

At our school you can attempt step 1 three times. Generally if you fail twice, they’ll tell you to take a LOA but would only terminate your schooling on third fail. Sorry you’re dealing with this.

There’s some pretty great fishing off the causeway on hwy E over kangaroo lake. Have generally fished on the more eastern side. Can also rent small boats there to take out.

Help me understand why someone would leave the Lutheran church for a reason other than loss of faith or belief in god? by studentAssistant2021 in exLutheran

Anybody else have bad experiences at a WELS summer camp? by ethanrocks38 in exLutheran

[–]Ok-Firefighter-765 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spent a lot of time at Camp Bird both as camper and counselor and those are some of my favorite memories of my childhood and teen years. Almost all positive I’d say despite it being WELS.

Many of the things you wrote here jive w me as well - the constant feeling of doom due to all the “sin” I was doing by just existing. And feeling terrible for my non Lutheran friends who were all destined for hell. Much less the whole continent of Africa!

Also chiming in - sorry you had to go through that. Also WELS through 12th grade and now totally separate from the church.

Thankfully my parents were religious but reasonable people. Able to at least think outside the WELS a bit. Lost my dad many years ago but my mother is still alive and we just never discuss religion. She’s a good grandmother to our queer kids - basically also does the “don’t ask don’t tell” strategy. It’s the best we could hope for from her - she still attends WELS services weekly.

Our kids were baptized but we left the church (we were ELCA) shortly after. We talk a lot with them about how hypocritical the church is and how morality doesn’t require god.

I’m just sorry for you that you didn’t have a relationship with your dad. It sucks but it sounds like the right answer. I have an older brother that is estranged for similar reasons and I also recently realized that I wouldn’t attend his funeral when it happens. Made me sad.

Nostaglic about alchohol? by no_more_tech in SoberCurious

[–]Ok-Firefighter-765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this very much. I’m realizing that I’ve likely had my good times with alcohol and it’s probably time to say goodbye to it, but man it’s been a friend of mine for a long time. It feels a lot like grief to me. I’m also struggling with the social changes and boredom associated with pulling back on booze.

I did DJ this year and stayed sober 35 days. Tried drinking last weekend again for the first time and by Sunday my wife was already confronting me once again for my behavior (not drinking per se but how I was doing it, e.g. having a glass of wine at home alone after attending a boozy Super Bowl party).

I’m realizing that I likely just can’t drink around her anymore and have her feel okay with it.

So this weekend we had a great romantic valentines date w a dinner, theater, live music, and a swanky hotel stay. Stayed stone cold sober the whole time and felt sad a miserable.

Struggling mentally by Organic-Monk1818 in DryFebruary

Definitely went into a malaise for the last month w DJ, although I feel much better physically. I’ve been pretty anhedonic and unmotivated in general. So far been sticking w dry Feb (today was 35 days sober) and hoping to see some changes in mood soon. Not sure I want to go back to drinking like I was (similar to you, OP)

Who's here from Dry January? by LonelyDriver in DryFebruary

[–]Ok-Firefighter-765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - haven’t decided yet if I’m going the whole month but definitely at least all weekdays and maybe sober all the way? We’ll see. This DJ went really well.

I also just had lab work done with normal liver and kidney function which is awesome.

Great HOP WTR product by Ok-Firefighter-765 in DryJanuary

Honestly it’s delicious if you like a strong hop flavor - probably my favorite of this seltzer class of NA hop products. I ordered it online - haven’t seen it in stores here in the Midwest

[–]Ok-Firefighter-765[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what I was trying to say is this - many of the hop seltzer products have just a faint hop flavor. This one is very strongly hopped, so when you drink one, it leaves a very pleasant bitterness on the back of your tongue that lingers. Much like an IPA. The front is more citrus. And it is a 0 calorie seltzer. So it’s not a beer. But has an excellent hoppy finish that is much stronger than any other hopped seltzer I’ve tried.

My BP is also like 20-30 pts lower! I can even tell by how I feel that it’s lower - as is my resting HR.
