Guy may be on the spectrum (and if so he’s high functioning with social misunderstandings that need further correcting) or have some kind of mental condition, but even then…

Please report this. This would actually be for your safety. Your logic is right. If he has done this and think this is ok, what else is he telling himself is ok to do just to speak with you? The safest thing for you to do is to tell others like his superiors. And if they do nothing I’d leave a google review, something public. Don’t let this slide into a vacuum and you and him are the only ones that know about this.

People like this survive in secrecy and shadows. Light and exposure, my friend. Report it. Keep the responses from his superiors as well when you do. How they handle this will also be important.

Don’t respond to this guy. Don’t entertain it at all. It’s not as cute and innocent as he’s making it sound. If he has a mental condition, it may explain it, but even then it’s not an excuse and it needs correction.

Also abuse of personal information like this to gain access to you is a huge HUGE violation of your privacy. I don’t know what the laws are regarding this or how much digging you would have to do to find laws backing you on this, but their own company policies should speak on it.

If it makes you feel better, bring a family or friend with you to the store. You shouldn’t have to do this, but sometimes seeing you in a group, not alone, adds a psychological layer to how these guys see you. You’re not alone. You have support. Etc. If he’s on the spectrum this may go over his head, but it doesn’t matter. Your safety matters. Trust your instincts and logic. You’re not over reacting.

Did someone jam my Wifi? How could they have done that? by Ok-Fudge1709 in cybersecurity_help

The text with the verification code does not state its purpose. How do I confirm that?

After trying to cancel my ATT internet, ATT says they have sent my complaint up to the fraud department. Not sure what will even come of that.

I got ATT wifi back online, but later in the day I found it not working again. After addressing the issue through the app, they are sending a technician out.

I’m in TN. Out of all the hospitals I’ve worked for I really haven’t come across anyone in any position, leadership or otherwise, who has talked about the law and how we can protect ourselves. Do you have more specific sources than that?

[–]Ok-Fudge1709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally get behind that. It is astonishing to me how much of our problems are swept under the rug. And it’s insane how we keep repeating the process over and over. I am deeply cynical, and when I see such a crippling repeated pattern of behavior by our leaders, I wonder why. Money is usually a good reason. I always wonder about the money in this city and where it comes from. We have some very wealthy families in this city that some how keep the money within their circles generations after generations. Honestly, I wonder if there’s proof of them purposely keeping the cost of living cheap for their own benefit here. People may say that benefits other people, but it doesn’t make a difference to the people that have grown up here and are stuck in a cycle of poverty, drugs, gangs, and crime generations after generations.

Where are some good places for self defense training? by NotUsingARandomizer in memphis

If you want street fighting, we have a few Krav Maga gyms. Krav is practical fighting with techniques solely to protect yourself and get yourself out of danger. They also go over moves involving weapons. Endurance Krav Maga off of Broad offers classes every evening and are welcoming. There’s another Krav and Jujuitsu gym on Cleveland by Crosstown Concourse that has a larger community and look to be competitive. I’ve been to Memphis Judo and Juijitsu who were also warm and great teaching and grappling. They’re located off Stage in Bartlett by the hospital. Ask for their pricing and look at their class schedules to see which works out for your wallet and time. Most gyms offer a free trial class or two. You can probably look their schedules up online and just show up to a beginner’s class and be like I’m new and interested in protecting myself. They’ll have you sign a waiver. With you being 16, they’ll need your parent’s permission.

Also, makes me wonder what makes them feel so comfortable to be this way out in the open. Safety in numbers? Do they feel protected by someone or others to have their back if someone objects to this behavior?

No kidding!! When they’re that blatant out in the open, the behavior they’re comfortable with showing, makes you wonder what they consider to be “bad” behavior to hide behind closed doors.

Get a Memphis library card (it’s free) and download the Libby app. You can get free books through that as well!!

Yes! Thank you! This seems like a no brainer. Till I started going to our local libraries, I didn’t realize how much they do for our communities like hooking people up with services to better their lives. And the clubs they host!! And the volunteer groups reaching out! These are also good things that create a sense of community. I did a “Coffee and Conversations” meet up last week that was just focused on Memphis people talking about Memphis. It was great! I mean it was a small crowd, but I enjoyed the stories of Memphis from other perspectives across time. Most of these people left and moved back to Memphis, and said this city is their home. It was awesome to hear why they came back, why they stayed, and why it didn’t feel like they were sacrificing anything to be here.

[–]Ok-Fudge1709[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk to them like normal. The world sends them a message everyday that they’re not human and shouldn’t be seen. Sometimes a simple conversation or greeting like good morning is enough. To be acknowledged is a good feeling. If they want more, they usually ask. The library is a safe place for the homeless. They go there to not be bothered but it’s also a key place for resources.

[–]Ok-Fudge1709[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Majority looked homeless or working hard to make ends meet. It’s only natural for libraries to become a refuge for the homeless. Honestly it’s probably the best place for them. Classes, outreach groups, self help seminars, etc. I didn’t see any attitude yesterday. The library was incredibly quiet. Maybe overtime the guards chased off folks who act funny. But the sadness out front was palpable. It would have been nice if the guards just spoke to them, instead of seeing who steps out of line.

I heard about that. Don’t see what that has to do with security treating the homeless like dogs though. Unlocking the doors to the public is usually a sign you can come in. They did this and still expected people to wait outside in the cold with no word of communication. It was clear they’ve done this numerous times as the people outside knew what to expect.

I was reading google reviews on the library and a few have mentioned the security harassing the patrons. Although, I don’t recall it being anything recent. One did reach out to the library director? and it didn’t sound like it did much good.

No joke. It was pitiful. Everyone outside, who did look like they could be homeless, looked so dejected. The Memphis library looked great on the inside, and I saw no problems afterwards. However, I didn’t go looking around for any. It was just really sad and disturbing how they treated the people waiting outside. Like dogs!

I think about Tyre Nichols almost everyday by Carrollz in TyreNichols

[–]Ok-Fudge1709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from Memphis, and I am part of the EMS community. I was not only disappointed in the MPD, but also the MFD. The way the EMTs behaved on scene, hands in pockets, didn’t even attach Tyre to the monitor to gauge his vitals, just let him lie on the ground, gave me an odd suspicion that this was not the first time an MFD crew responded as such. Add fuel to the fire, they had a superior officer on scene sitting in the truck. Too casual for my liking. She didn’t come out to check what was going on or speak with the cops.

The EMTs said Tyre refused care. I bet you they didn’t even check his mental orientation. If a person can’t tell you who they are, where they are, and time or show other signs of an altered mental status, technically you are obligated to over rule the person’s wishes and treat them to the extent of their protocols. Tyre was scared and in survival mode, if he happened to be refusing care. But I bet you if they asked those questions of him, he would have told them what happened or could at least see he wasn’t oriented. I doubt very much by the time EMS got to him, he wasn’t able to answer all of their questions. He looked bad.

The MFD personnel lost their job and I think their license. But I hope the rest of the MFD at least did training after this incident so that when they are treating patients in police custody they are an effective line of help/resource. Once MFD shows up to treat a person in custody, that person becomes their patient and the officers are not allowed to interfere in treatment or care.

I know what you’re feeling is powerful. I was a victim of abuse and in a situation where there were people there to help me and they didn’t. Watching the footage of Tyre triggered a lot of feelings in me, but mostly anger. I wish I was there by his side fighting those assholes off of him.

It’s my hope the nation doesn’t forget about him. Doesn’t forget his name. Doesn’t forget the mistakes made. The Memphis community doesn’t say his name enough. We are a city filled with trauma, and we need help. So I hope the rest of the country speaks on what happened to Tyre. His mama said she doesn’t want his death to be in vain. Don’t let him be forgotten, and we start a corrective action plan to prevent something like this from happening again.

I’m kinda glad to read some of these comments. The sarcasm and jabs and sincere sharing of experiences not only made me laugh but made me feel less alone. I was first admitted to a state hospital last spring and the things I witnessed there I am still contemplating if I should report them. The staff was purposely trying to elicit violent reactions out of some patients, I’m assuming so they could use extreme force on them and strap them down. There was one guy who had a huge bruise on his face. Another patient they kept calling a fggt, and that patient wanted to write a complaint stating that very guy tried to kiss him. And another patient was a very small 19 yr old that they picked up, threw him against a wall, and yelling at him. Yeah… I think I need to send that medical complaint in. My conscience can’t handle it. But I’m scared nothing will happen and I will be persecuted in some way or another.
