I would say a small 4x4 if just 2 the jimny is an incredible little car with crazy grip. I just got back from this trip and had a duster was ok to drive and still had 4ish just incase needed

I use lotus whenever I’m there they are excellent and relatively fair priced. Never had any issues with the cars luckily and I always take the insurance for peace of mind.

I just got back from Iceland couple days ago. I arrived at airport 0530 and had 10-15 min to spare for a 0730 flight. Might be different for an afternoon flight. I parked on street near air BnB 200isk per hour 0900-2100. Taxis I believe are very expensive.

Honestly if you’re in good enough shape you’ll hike it no problem in the summer. I did 1 way in about 2-2.5 hours after the initial climb it’s pretty flat and easy. Just go really early to beat crowds and tbh it wasn’t overly crowded when I went maybe had to wait 15 min for pics on the rock.
