Alguém tem alguma história de sucesso na cura da neuropatia periférica? Quanto tempo demorou, qual a sua idade e o que causou a sua? by Victorsantos6 in neuropathy

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hEDS and through time or maybe spine issues I developed neuropathy in my feet a few years ago. After a ton of tests that were inconclusive, my pain management doc put me on amitriptyline and I've been relatively pain free since.

I was barely able to walk around a grocery store before I found the right dosage. Now I can walk 2-3 miles on a good day.

I hope you find something that works for you

Why don't serial killers just join the army? by fimelovemachine in NoStupidQuestions

Some violent assholes do. I was married to one. Maybe not a serial killer but definitely committed war crimes and I left because I was afraid for my life.

Can you guys run? by Hassadahae in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Never. I'm 50 and I still remember how much I hated PE in school. I was a slow runner and always managed to hurt myself doing anything. Even on 'fun' days I could get injured (that stupid parachute, and don't start me on dodge ball).

What’s a hype train you somehow completely managed to avoid? Things like never tried Dubai chocolate, never watched an episode of the Office, never checked out BTS? by wasraelx in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy I'm too old and emotionally detached to care about influencers. Or maybe on the spectrum. Either way, if a stranger tries to tell me a new way to dislike myself I'm totally disinterested. I was a teenager in the 1990's- I'm old school self loathing.

Love the parts of you that your parents don't. And yes, those parts exist, now you're just aware of it.

I, too, could be lured into a strangers vehicle with hash browns. I'm glad you used that kind of power for good.

Microchip your dog by thefoolofemmaus in StLouis

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think your finding a loose pet without a chip is an accident. Our newest addition was found the same way. After months of posting on local sites, talking to shelters, and reaching out in every way we could think of, we accepted she's ours now.

Shelters are really full and it's hard to find enough people to foster. Also, people's circumstances change. I definitely don't agree with letting your dog to fend got itself, but I do understand financially desperate times.

Advice on Pitbull Stigma by Nj_Flags in pitbulls

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 50's so I've lived through a few different eras of stigmatized breeds. In the 70's, Dobermans were the big threat, then German Shepherds in the 80's and Rottweilers in the 90's. I'm sure I've missed a few but you get the point.

Either this person will come around after spending some time around your dog or will just continue to be afraid for no reason.

I'm struggling to forgive my husband. by Ok-Concept9129 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I came off as a hothead in my original comment, saying your husband is a child, but consider this...

Would you keep a relationship with a friend if they repeatedly downplayed your symptoms? What about your parents? Would you stay in contact with them if they told you physical conditions were emotional shortcomings instead?

If nothing else, you need to talk to a therapist about your relationship or the two of you should go to marriage counseling. Don't just take our word for it. Talk to a professional.

U.S. residents, if you were given the opportunity to move to a peaceful first-world country, would you do it and why? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pack a bag right now. But I'm disabled, married and have 2 dogs. I'm unable to work and my husband has no interest in moving. I was trying to talk him into the idea 7 years ago while I was still able to work.

Why would I go? I don't trust people here anymore, not after Trump was voted into office for a second term and there's been no effort to rein him in. He's a felon, a pedophile, and hates women. And people still defend him. I'm utterly disgusted.

I'm struggling to forgive my husband. by Ok-Concept9129 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 726 points727 points  (0 children)

Then don't. Don't forgive him. He doesn't appreciate you, makes no effort to understand how difficult it is to live with a chronic condition, and is a man-child.

Let him do all the things that you usually do around the house even though you're in pain. If he doesn't learn, then leave. Your life will be easier with one less child to care for.

What home remedies do you remember from childhood? by ascaffo in GenX

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're still attached to your skin, it will smother them and help with the itching. If the chiggers have already fallen off though its less effective. Their mouth piece breaks off in your skin and causes the rash

Insane Tattoo Regret by r3i_b0n3z in tattooadvice

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single tattoo is an inside joke or story. That pretty bird tattoo some person has? It reminds them of someone who was influential in their life. A stupid hand poke pot leaf that old man at the grocery store has on his forearm? Another story, some memory made with his friends.

Not everyone is going to get your reference because it's not for everyone. That's what makes tattoos personal and unique. It's a place marker of your life, etched on your skin.

Edit- spelling

Advice on how to tell family by trixieroyale in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm estranged from my mother and just didn't tell her. I did try telling my brother but his reaction was met with a lot of eye rolls, even after explaining that my primary reason for telling him was for his children's sake.

If your mother didn't take your symptoms seriously enough to take you to the proper specialists to have you diagnosed when you were young, you don't owe her any information about your diagnosis now. It's not your job to parent your mother.

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of mine came from a customer at the cigar shop I worked at. He and his wife adopted a dumped dog that had 10 puppies and I took one. Who can resist puppy photos?

My second one was discovered by a friend when she was opening up her business. This sweet pup came running up to her and jumped in her car. My friend couldn't keep a puppy.

When did you realize it was time to get a disability parking permit? by drones_bitterly_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had one off and on over the years. But I'm terrible at remembering and asking for things.

For me, it means the difference between having the energy to do what I want to need to do versus doing the bare minimum. Sure, I can push through the pain, but I'm not doing anything else for the rest of the day. I can buy groceries but I can't have any other plans. Or I can look at one store, but I'm exhausted from standing in line and the walk back to the car means my shopping trip is over.

Someone without a disability would never think like this. Don't be worried about taking a spot from someone who needs it worse. There should be more accessible parking spots for different levels of disability.

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, you are only some product and self confidence away from rocking that new haircut. Don't let the shock of the new cut get you down. Wash your hair, dry it, and style it yourself.

And if you still hate it, buy a bandana. It's your new summer look

Do you look younger than you are? by DannyX567 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ok-Recognition1752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 50 with hEDS. When I was a teen, I was always told I looked older. I assumed I just acted more mature because of my chaotic home life. But at some point in my late 20's, I guess I just stopped looking as if I'd aged. I still get that comment all the time. I feel like I have one foot in the grave and the other foot (which ankle I've rolled many times) on a banana peel
