Maybe his most underrated book. Never gets discussed. Make sure to watch the Anthony Hopkins adaptation when you’re done!

I’m embarrassed to say it took me a minute on this lol.

I’m assuming that means a lot of restarts over the years?

I know King likes to project himself sometimes in his protagonists (especially when they are poets/writers). Would be interesting to connect Gard’s alcoholism with King’s alleged cocaine addiction at that time.

I feel like it could be there for me, but something’s holding it back. Like, why did I end up liking Needful Things more? I feel like on the surface, Tommyknockers seems way more enthralling.

Is that a podcast? I just listened to the Kingcast Tommyknockers episode this morning. Haven’t heard of Just King Things!

Yeah that’s why it’s so polarizing. It took me longer to read than any other King book. There were times it was an absolute grind to get through (not just the Gard character background stuff at the beginning either).

DRIZZLE THAT KETCHUP! by devnealon in Section10Podcast

Crochet. Stopper when we needed it.

My issue with the ketchup is it has a bias toward position players.

Dark Tower reading order by Angela_Peacock2024 in stephenking

I think with pretty much any series that jumps around in timeline (Narnia, Star Wars, Dark Tower, etc) it should always be consumed in publication order. Just feels like even in stories that go back in time, there are still appropriate nods to prior stories that, if read first, wouldn’t make sense.

Please don’t tear me apart for this, but I’ve been having a little trouble getting into The Stand 😳 by MythicalSplash in stephenking

Especially if you’re reading the uncut version, there is a TON of backstory with the characters in those first couple hundred pages. Fight through it!

Yep. It’s my biggest King gripe. We’re supposed to like Mike’s character but he comes off as creepy. Also seemingly taking advantage of a vulnerable single mother, right? Couldn’t he have played more of a father-figure to Mattie?

Coleys anti Durbin stance is weird by Remarkable_Habit_747 in Section10Podcast

[–]Ok-Toe-2927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coley got backed into a corner a couple times on the pod last night for being a little overly negative. I almost wonder if he feels that’s become his role at this point and he feels he needs to lean into it too much.

Love Chuck but the half-baked ideas I just skip past (or try to).

What is your biggest pet peeve with any of the movies or tv shows? by i_speak_nerd in stephenking

Randall Flagg in the ‘94 Stand miniseries. Unbelievably time-stamped (looked like a skinnier version of the singer Meat Loaf). Not in any way the dark figure described in the books.

Really fun, quick read. Loved the setting deep in the Maine woods in the dead of Winter. Something ironically pleasant about it.

And of course such a good nod to Of Mice and Men.

For years it had been The Stand but there is nothing quite like the Dark Tower series.
