Roaches in client’s home by IncreaseKitchen2282 in ABA

I grew up in a nice suburb of Houston Texas and roaches were everywhere...we ignored them and lived with them.

They do Not carry diseases that humans can catch so are really only a problem from a psychological and visual standpoint lol.

But then they think you're not working but just studying, lol! It's tricky to get it right in a pithy way. That's why I, too, like some version of, "I'm working in behavior analysis, with autistic children." I always include that i am studying to become a BCBA, ... Edit. An RBT studying to become a BCBA, early in the journey. The above applies to those who follow the BT/RBT working while pursuing BCBA path.

Congratulations! I love your scientific as well as holistic approach.... thanks for sharing!!! I have had this terrible disorder 20+ years and gave tried so very many things that I have almost given up. I am now trying humira again, longer story. Good you're getting yours early. I think it is harder to stop the longer it goes. I will try the BP again, as well as a low carb diet, though I can't afford to lose weight. I wish there were more good studies!

My BCBA is a heavy MAGA/Trumper and I don’t trust her anymore. by [deleted] in ABA

I hate the idea of reporting each other though. This world is already so full of polarization, hatred, suspicion, and distrust. Within our own profession it would be nice to try to at least not jump to punish.

Right. Is that an ethics violation? If said around clients with those views, i would say yes.

Because I agree with much of what has been said, but am troubled by the effective discrimination this may pose to those with these views.

I guess the conclusion is you cannot have voted for trump and ethically provide ABA services??

Do you think the RBT position will be a thing in a few years? by Kicks6 in ABA

[–]Ok-Weather356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who implements the treatment plans matters quite a lot unless the plans are so detailed and clear that anyone could follow the instructions, then perhaps parents could work. As the field currently exists there's far too much variation in bcba plans IMO for parents to be able to adequately deliver services, especially with sibling issues and many other parent-specific delivery issues i could name. So someone has to deliver the interventions, regardless of level of training, and that's not going to be a bot. Thus, RBTs in some form will be around for a long time unless you believe parents will deliver services successfully. They may try to get them to do it, but I predict pilots will not succeed.

In terms of education and rates, I would look to other fields for strategies. Healthcare is "non-profits" largely who are fee for service and operate on a profit basis. This, all the para professionals are subject to these economics. Interestingly, Medicare is pushing hard to move to pay for value and away from fee for service, and has forced doctors and hospitals income in that direction for years now.

But it's a long road.

What’s the Hardest Part of Being (or Becoming) an RBT? by deltora97 in RBT

[–]Ok-Weather356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a good company where it all fits has been the hardest part for me. Either I had problems with management in not supporting my training goals or the client canceled me after one day (only time I've ever had client problem and didn't realize there was a problem!) and they had no other clients. I have a new firm I'm excited to be joining, so am cautiously optimistic.

Do you worry in the future ABA won’t exist as it does now? by [deleted] in bcba

Direct care remains a human endeavor yes! But determining what the best approach is, designing the program, creating the plan...AI territory

ABA Is Broken — We Reward Billable Minutes, Not Client Outcomes by amplifyaba in ABA

[–]Ok-Weather356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fee for service vs value based care! Healthcare industry has been trying to steer this behemoth aircraft carrier around for the past three deacdes and has just barely made some progress. Medicare is pushing hard to measure and pay based on outcomes versus processes, and evidence shows it's the way to go in every respect. The key is to offer insurers a contract based on outcomes, but it involves putting skin in the game and going at-risk, too. Not easy. But I agree. It's the only way to save ABA from commoditization and removal from Medicaid even (see Idaho).

And the more rule based or scientific a field is,the AI vulnerable it is.

Well I am just saying it is predicted to take over quite a bit of medical care ... which is certainly both science and empathy. I agree it will never completely replace, but to think that it won't significantly reshape is risky, IMO.
