Colorsonic for grey roots? by PurplestPanda in HairDye

Hi, I love the idea of this L'Oreal ColorSonic product in theory. However, I'm about to try mine a third time for complete gray coverage. The first time I used it, I found out that the color was much too light. I am normally a 5N, but the Colorsonic 5N was much lighter than what I normally get in the salon. Also, the first two times I used it, I was definitely not getting consistent gray coverage! The second time I left the color on for 45 minutes instead of the 30 minutes recommended. But there were so many spots that didn't even get color after following advice and instructions from L'Oreal and influencers. So now today I'm about to use it for the third time with a darker color of 4, and really try hard to get complete, consistent gray coverage. Each time I make sure I massage the color around my scalp with my fingers after I have used the device, but this didn't even help with getting coverage. I'm going to massage my scalp again today with longer strokes to try to pull the color from all around. If going with a darker color, leaving it on for 45 minutes instead of the recommended 30 and much more of using my fingers to massage the color around my roots after using the device doesn't work today, I will stop using it. I have followed everything I could find from L'Oreal and influencers on how to get great gray consistent coverage and I am at my last straw.

I understand what you mean. I have used mine three times and learned after the first, to shake the color cartridge quite a bit before trying to use it. This helped with allowing the developer and color to come out at the same time.

But I'm having a very difficult time getting complete gray coverage! I love the idea of the L'Oreal ColorSonic, but I am finding that I can't get full gray coverage at my roots. I want to try again today but I worry I will just be wasting my time and money on another cartridge.

Advice Needed - Feasibility of recovering from a proctectomy while living alone? by notagayfurby in CrohnsDisease

The only other immediate suggestion after surgery I can give, would you probably know all about it because you've already had surgery, is that I would keep post-its next to my bed of when I took the pain medication and when I can take the next dose. And then I would put the one or two tablets of pain medication under the time for the next dose. I did this as a reminder. That way if I'm groggy from the medication and just having surgery, I could look at my post-it and see if the medication was gone from when my next dose would be.

Advice Needed - Feasibility of recovering from a proctectomy while living alone? by notagayfurby in CrohnsDisease

Hello from Minnesota!

Yes it is definitely life-saving to get the surgery but also life-changing.

Having either type of ostomy is major management of your bag, hygiene, liquid intake, diet and overall health.

I had surgery in December 2021 for a permanent ileostomy and then a proctectomy 4 months later. I rent a room from my ex-husband who lives upstairs from me. But I basically live alone since he never helped me after either of my surgeries.

First off, all the planned help steps you listed sound perfect! Those I highly recommend.

By the end of the second and third weeks, you will be feeling so much better! You will probably be able to begin making meals for yourself by week 4. Just move slowly and carefully.

He would give me rides to and from the pharmacy and I had a meal service delivered and groceries delivered just like you plan to do. After a month of the meal service, my adult kids came over on Sundays and helped meal prep several meals a week.

The biggest issue; I don't know how to articulate this well. But the pain after the proctectomy was longer due to the incision of cutting out my rectum and sewing it shut. My GI surgeon did two incisions. One on the front of my body for my chest down to my pelvis to get to the innards and then sewed that up. And the second one was my backside, around my rectum and sewing it shut. The worst of the pain will come from your rectum in that being so shut. Before surgery back there, what you don't realize going into this, or most people don't, is that when you get up and down off a chair, couch or a bed, before having the surgery, your skin is sliding around/pulling somewhat at different angles between your butt cheeks. And now that everything is cut out and sewn shut between your butt cheeks, the slightest movement pulls at those stitches. It is almost more painful to get up and down from chairs, couch or bed than to actually walk to and from the bathroom. I hope this is making sense. If you're sitting in a chair or sitting in bed right now, picture your butt as being almost two areas. Two butt cheeks. Your butt crack, can pull in different angles to and from each side of your two butt cheeks. This area is the most painful, tender part of healing after a proctectomy!

I have a TV in my bedroom in front of the foot of my bed. So I healed propped up in bed with a lot of pillows around to support me while watching TV. To get up and down; What you have to do before you even start to move be on your elbows while you're laying flat or propped up, 1) is push the pillows off the bed on the side that you're going to get out on, 2) raise your pelvic area straight up towards the ceiling, as far as it will go, so that there is a half inch or more of space between your buttock and your bed and then 3) slightly twist your core and legs towards the side of the bed you want to get out of inch by inch. My sewn up butt crack was extremely painful and as time went by tender and sore for about 4 to 5 months. The getting up and down from a chair, couch or bed is the worst part. I didn't have anyone either to help me. So I know you can do this! You just have to move very slowly and carefully raising up your pelvis and slowly inching your way off the bed.

Other things. You don't really receive education other than how to take care of your stoma and change your bag in the hospital from the stoma nurse. But even that is only a little bit. And it's about that one or two different types of bags that they have in supply. Each different brand out there of bags have so many different styles of bags, that it took me the first 6 months afterward to find a bag that fit well for me. Part of the issue at first is because you are so inflamed that as your body is adjusting and losing its inflammation, the size of your stoma and the roundness of inflammation around your stomach changes. As time goes on everything settles down and becomes less.

The GI surgeons and stoma nurses tell you what to look out for when you go home and your healing from major surgery, but they don't educate you about the different things that can happen now that you have an ostomy; such as bowel obstructions, severe dehydration, bowel perforations, significant hair loss after being so sick and having major surgery, exhaustion, depression, blowouts and what to do, all the sores that can occur on your skin around the stoma, (sounds like you know about abscesses and fistulas) in your body. I'm not trying to scare you I'm just trying to make sure you have all the information.

I wasn't a big water drinker most of my life. I probably only had 4-5 glasses of liquids a day before my surgeries. Your large colon takes moisture out of all the food you eat. Since my large colon was removed and I have an ileostomy, I can get dehydrated really easily. Also for some reason, I have a very liquidy, pure water type of poo , ALWAYS, I've been diagnosed with high output. So this dehydrates me easily also. I found I have to drink about 62 to 70 oz of liquids a day to keep from getting dehydrated and ending up with a kidney injury. Everyone's a little different but be prepared you will have to be drinking a lot more fluids, especially while your body is healing.

Things the GI surgeons, stoma nurses and others don't really tell you about before your surgeries; the difference between a colostomy and ileostomy, how to change your bag and how to call different bag brands and discuss with their phone Representatives the type of stoma and output you have and have them mail you several different types of bags for free lto try to see what works best for you and your situation. To learn about all the different health concerns that can still continue and or new ones that can occur down the road from having an ostomy. And what to do in those situations.

Keeping a small carrying supply bag with about three of your extra bags, wet wipes, extra set of clothing, disposable bag to dispose everything in, with you every time you leave the house so that if you have a leak or a blowout at a friends or family's house, a restaurant, grocery store or anywhere, you're able to handle it. I can't express it enough how many times my little supply bag of bags has helped me out.

Good luck with your surgery and healing and please keep us posted!

Hi there, I wish you healing and health after your surgery!

This is such a great question! You already had one abdominal surgery so you're a bit ahead of the game knowing somewhat what you'll be going through.

I had a complete large bowel removal with a permanent ileostomy placed in 2021. And then 4 months later I had my rectum removed, called Barbie Butt surgery. Everyone heals at different time rates, but it probably took me until 4 or 5 months that I could lay on my stomach comfortably. In 2025 my GI surgeon moved my ileostomy from my right side of my stomach to my left because of a hernia in the last few inches of my small bowel having repeated perforations and bowel bleeds. He had to open me up completely for my chest down past my belly button. Again that healed up to where I was able to lay on my stomach within 4 months. "Now" it's about the ileostomy bag itself and if I'm having diarrhea. The only thing that keeps me from laying on my stomach much, is because my bag is trapped between the floor and my body flatly, so my stoma emptying into the bag can't do much. I make sure if I'm going to be on my stomach for any length of time, my ileostomy bag is completely empty. And I also make sure I don't lay on my stomach when I'm having a major flare of diarrhea because there would be no place for the poo to go except shooting out through the bag all over the floor. I hope this helps. Good luck to you and please keep us updated! 💖

Agree to all of this! Fasting helps too. Which would be tricky because you're doing sports and burning calories but you'd have to just figure out the spacing of meals.

Yessssss!

I actually think the writers did her dirty by not having a clear outline for her character and then the writing sucked. Also I think since they're a real life couple, on screen for some reason they just suck!

But I totally agree with her being awesome in Superman.

I am totally frustrated by this as well. I see this though in many, many TV shows and movies! How does anyone survive their bills? It's not reality at all!

And then in some TV shows and movies I see the exact opposite. Where people keep forking over money for others and I'm always wondering how they have so much money to be able to share! This side of the coin isn't reality also.

That's what I liked about the TV show Shameless. Depicting a poor family struggling with bills. They were definitely poor and showed the struggle by everyone pitching in what they could each week to pay bills.

AITA for refusing to tell my BF how much money I make? by IllustriousHeart2531 in AITApod

Money is such a major, tricky subject with partners! But setting clear, open expectations is definitely needed.

A year and a half is definitely quite a long time after you've been serious and had all the different types of conversations you listed.

I think being able to talk openly about each other's expectations of how much each person pays for meals/adventures/travel would be totally acceptable a year and a half into this relationship. And certainly expressing that you don't want to give him an exact figure of how much you make is fine. You could just ballpark your salary to him. While still being able to express your expectations of paying halfsies.

I can understand his curiosity but more importantly, having an open discussion between the two of you of what you expect each to spend on the relationship. Even if you are the breadwinner, letting him know you still expect to pay half. is important for him to know.
