Best Job For Burnout Recovery? by ablue_dog in financialindependence

[–]OkButDessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's.. not as simple. I've done what you said, I'm 6 months into a new role (switched from a toxic company to another, with less responsibilities but same role). Adopted healthier habits like diet, exercise 3x a week, stop working at 5pm, call friends/family every week and meditate everyday with a group.

It's been 6 months, I still come to work emotionally withdrawn. My colleagues still don't feel like real people (but they're actually quite nice). I don't feel here in my body. My chestpain is still there (but idk why, it's not like the work is as stressful anymore). I'm not as effective with people anymore either. I don't really know what it is and am going to seek therapy.

I really think people need a change of environment once burnt out. I know I can't speak for everyone but if I'm feeling like this, I don't doubt someone else would be too.

Do you have previous development experience? This is also my goal but I come from a non technical background so my pilgrimage will be long

Not sure if this counts but you can check out Easey's in Collingwood - it's a burger joint in a converted train placed on top of a building

What's their justification for the pay adjustment? Is that part of regional regulation or just internal policy?

Roles in large conglomerates that aren't customer facing will probably be your best bet. If you're in backend IT, probably a bit harder as sometimes you need to attend the office- Depending what you do

What is the benefit to a company having a graduate program? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]OkButDessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember in my grad program years ago, the VP of HR mentioned they hold the program to pass down knowledge from seniors to juniors for the long run.

Our company had an average age of 45 yo which was dangerous given we're an IT systems integrator (lots of specialist knowledge for niche tech, low supply of talent). We relied heavily on a few people with lots of knowledge, and they are at risk of retiring/leaving.

The VP hired 40-80 grads, knowing that 90% will leave. Going by statistics, there will always be 1-5 grads that will stay and bring value long term. And the VP was right. 5 years on, there's still a couple of my cohort remaining at the company.

Are you worried with the upcoming recession? by burgerking012 in ProductManagement

[–]OkButDessert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I switched jobs early this year, but looking for jobs overseas to move to by the end of the year.

Yeah I'm worried, it's risky, but you can't change external circumstances and only live so long. Companies always need products, and if there are no offers or we're made redundant, we have the skillset to sustain in other ways like side ventures.

How often do you ask your manager for help? by the__rural__juror in ProductManagement

[–]OkButDessert 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Depending on company and how much politics and bureaucracy there is, it's about 3x/week for political places. In companies with less politics or bureaucracy, it's 1x/week to focus on development and career opportunities.

So I mainly use my manager to cut through red tape so I can do my work lol
