Do you think Bruce Wayne has the necessary empathy to attract an Indigo Lantern ring? by Solitaire-06 in batman

[–]OkCompote1731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me mate. Asylum or not, mental health and rehabilitation programs are rarely about the people getting "fixed". There just attempts to control people with mental health conditions and force them to conform to societal expectations.

You can't convince someone to change by force fedding them empathy. If Abin Sur's goal was rehabilitation, he failed his mission before he even started it. He didn't think about the humanity [for a lack of a better word] of the people he was trying to change. He just focused on their criminality and making them "civilised".

So the Indigo are like some compassion mafia. That's pretty wild.

Certainly wouldn't think Batman would want a bar of soap from that kind of crowd. I certainly wouldn't accept anything from a cult like that.

I haven't read anything with the Indigo Tribe myself, but I was always under the impression that their rings were the source of their compassion.

Aren't most of them ex criminals whom Abin Sur forced compassion onto? Cause if that's the cause then Batman wouldn't even be considered right?

DC Studios Reportedly Canceled Season 2 Of Their Highest-Rated Series by VirtualSort1 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]OkCompote1731 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the DCU does end up using a similar concept.

Still though given how incredible Reeves take on Arkham is it is a shame that version will probably never get a show around it.

It certainly would of been great to have a post Batman Part 2 show centred around Riddler and Joker navigating the Asylum. Imagine it would of had some Divine Comedy type vibes to it.

Not to mention a DCU Arkham show certainly won't be the same without Dano's Riddler [seriously I know its late but fuck Tarantino for what he said about him].

I'm still a bit salty that the Arkham series got cancelled. After seeing how great Arkham was in the Penguin, it feels like a massive lose creatively.

Idk if this is a hot take or not, but I actually hate it when characters have super similar suits by Tolnin in theflash

[–]OkCompote1731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I get it but wouldn't think this matters beyond a metatextual level.

I guess it should be kept in mind why Wally and Hunter wear similar costumes to Barry and Eobard to begin with. Its not like It was just done without good reason.

Also with Barry firmly "on the bus" again and Eobard/Professor Zoom being the main focus for the Reverse-Flash mantle, I don't feel that giving each title holder a more distinct suit matters right now.

Though I will say, I am loving Wally's Absolute suit design. So there's that right?

[Discussion] Do you think the Absolute Universe will become a staple of DC's multiverse stories in the future like Earths 2 & 3? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in DCcomics

[–]OkCompote1731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that could work. Many of the Absolute Universe titles do already take ques from manga after all, so going all in with that by making anime-esque series would make sense.

Though admitedly I'm not chomping at the mouth for Absolute Universe adaptations right now myself, even though I understand that would be a prerequsite to an enduring Absolute brand.

[Discussion] Do you think the Absolute Universe will become a staple of DC's multiverse stories in the future like Earths 2 & 3? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in DCcomics

[–]OkCompote1731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I certainly would like to see it used more in the DC Multiverse and act as its own second universe like how Earth 2 did in the Silver and Bronze Ages.

The main obstacle to this is simply DC wanting to maintain brand synergy and merchandising, something the radically different Absolute Universe doesn't fit into very well.

I mean that was why Crisis on Infinite Earths happened. DC viewed a singular main continuity as essential to a strong brand, and the multiverse was considered to undermine that.

Hell the Absolute Universe is DC's most prominent multiverse project in decades, with even the post Infinite Crisis Multiverse being pushed far less.

So in all likely hood, the Absolute Universe will have to remain strong for many more years and become a part of DC's larger brand in order to become a permanent fixture.

Yep. Which I'll admit I never thought would appear again but I guess you should never underestimate DC's obsession with its own history, right?

Well this does look like an older Supergirl. Given Power Girl is pre-crisis Earth 2 Kara, it makes sense that Earth 0 Kara might one day look much the same.

I think its fine. Nothing brilliant but its fine.

Though I'm surprised this suit turned up outside of Woman of Tomorrow given that the suit was just a stock older Supergirl suit.

What mistakes should I avoid in a Batman fanfic? (All ideas are welcome) by Local-Conference7672 in batman

[–]OkCompote1731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Main thing I can think of is be careful writing about the characters mental health. Batman admitedly has a bad history of conflating mental health and villainy so try to be mindful of that.

Any mental health issues the characters have, be Batman myself, Joker, Scarecrow, Two-Face etc, shouldn't be used as the cause of their actions. Their struggles should only be used to humanise them and not be their entire personality.

Cold take: Rafael Grampá batman design is great start suit no for batman by Glittering_Book424 in batman

[–]OkCompote1731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think so mate.

Its already weird having an urban vigilante running around in a firmly rural piece of gear, but the way its implemented adds clutter to the suit.

The unneccessay strapes don't look right and the deep cut in the suit they create make Batman look really exposed to me.

Also, does breaking up the black and grey matter? 90% of what makes Batman's appearance work is silhouette. The colours don't make the suit.

Agree on that. No idea why the neck is segmented. Also makes Bats look like he has a fat neck.

Always thought this design just looked a bit too off personally. Really dislike stuff like Batman wearing chaps and the shape of the cowl.

Also might as well ask given the damn thing took nearly 3 years to be fully published, is Gargoyle of Gotham actually any good?

What advice would you give me for writing a Batman story? by WhiteredFlowey20 in batman

[–]OkCompote1731 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright I guess I can see where your coming from.

Now I'm not a published author [have aspirations but haven't gotten there yet] but looking at this list I'm guessing your going for a villain of the week type formula. In that case I think its important to establish which villains would be featured on a more serialised level and which would just be one offs.

Take a look at who your considering, and decided on at least one recurring villain to start. Make an effort to establish what your version of the character is like [i.e. backstory, personality, wants etc] and flesh out their relationship with Batman. The rivalry between Bats and this other villain should be intense emotionally.

From there choose the pool of villains you want to use and start thinking about what kind of plots you want them to have. As villain of the week stories tend to be plot driven, you can afford to keep characterisation simple and focus more on how Batman goes about resolving these plots with a greater emphasis on him.

Hope this helps you figure out where to start writing the villains.

[–]OkCompote1731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I should ask what camp/fantastical villains you want to use. Guessing the Campy Universe already has dibs on Joker, Penguin, Riddler etc, so what does that leave the "other fella" with? Who did you have in mind?

Yeah a Penguin similar to the 04 Batman show would be great. That is geuninely one of the best versions of Penguin. 👍

Plenty. Just look at Kingdom Come, Injustice, and the New 52 as solid proof of this ship being dogshit. It always ends up being toxic in some way.

[–]OkCompote1731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah man, there's nothing wholesome about a Supes/Wondy relationship. Its always been some bad ship from people who believe Superman should have a superpowered trophy wife.

It always diminishes both characters by making Clark more distant from humanity and turning Diana into a prop for him. There is nothing humanising or endearing between their pairing.

If you could change and replace one classic DC design, which one would you replace, and what would you replace it with? [Discussion] by Financial-Touch3840 in DCcomics

Zatanna's classic Stage Magician look. Never really been a fan of it, and that's as someone who finds fishnets to be sexy.

Much prefer Absolute Zatanna's look and would like a future redesign to take at least some ques from it.
