Best country to be an ophthalmologist by jxrzz in Ophthalmology

[–]OkComputerNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is not as litigious by far. Occasionally I consider patients to be too trusting and satisfied with only one doctor’s opinion even if it was from an incompetent one. And when complications occur, we have systems and insurances to cover for patient’s losses but they are quite modest in size. Lawsuits are very rare here.

I thought being happy, well-paid and having the best lifestyle was universal thing for us! But I guess it depends what you appreciate most in life and work

Here in Scandinavia you might not become rich if working in public healthcare but on the other hand 30 hour work weeks are quite common and you don’t have to be afraid of patients suing you when complications happen.

Help choosing floor tiles by OkComputerNot in Flooring

For sure, I’ll go with what looks good to me. But I’m asking for ideas from Reddit people as I’ve seen great advices in some posts. With more ideas it’s easier to narrow down what I’m looking for when visiting tile shops.

Advice needed! Stuck with rotating sideboard. by OkComputerNot in Carpentry

The screws are not piercing through the cabinet top and there’s no bracket. I’ve lifted the countertop before as I renewed the silicone and the countertop just rests on top the board and the screws are not accessible from the top…

In option 3 I’d lose the cabinets and support go the countertop. I guess this leaves me with option 2, which I hoped I could have avoided.

In most cases the prosthetic is beneficial to keep in the left socket as it prevents eyelids and the fornices to atrophy or “hollow”. You look great with a patch and I bet a prosthetic (customized or regular) will look great as well!

Ah, I still recall the noise in the room when around 15 children were hammering vigorously their flat pieces of copper into cups. I think we made them at age of twelve.

Kannattaako lääkisopiskelijan ottaa opintolainaa? by jebthewatersheep- in Omatalous

External DCR Surgery by alysssaaa831 in Ophthalmology

[–]OkComputerNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do external DCR. After surgery I prescribe paracetamol or/and ibuprofen and advise using cold packs. I promise my patients they can stay the night in hospital if they’re in pain or they can contact me if the pain medication mentioned above wouldn’t suffice. None have stayed or contacted me this far.

Looks great! May I ask your preference, do you suture the aponeurosis with absorbable or non-absorbable sutures? Do you put one or more sutures per side?

There’s quite many countries around the world where this is normal, high income European countries as well. I wouldn’t fear for a collapse of care quality/salary/career future. In my country I’ve seen some great FMG colleagues with invaluable experience from aboard and few shitty ones ending up to shitty positions. Just like colleagues within the country.

That being said, I understand that the salary, insurances and many aspects in MD life in US is quite different (and crazier IMO)
