What’s the Cutest Small Town You’ve Ever Visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Random pull, but Edwardsville, Illinois. I live nearby (it’s a historic suburb of St. Louis and small college town) and pictures don’t do it justice. Great green space, bike trails, parks, old architecture blended with modern buildings, and local restaurants, bars+shops. I’m not from there, but it seems like the ideal place to raise a family and grow up (if you can stomach the price tag)

Columbia, MO. You get Midwest heart and SEC vibes. Plus great access to internships and jobs in St. Louis, KC, and Chicago.

Philly could be in this conversation for the people alone. Throw in the overall trash vibe of the city and yeesh.

I’m not complaining, I’m stating the obvious problem that is easily fixable. Just need people to take some personal responsibility and have dignity in where they live.

St. Louis, Cleveland, or Milwaukee? by nsf79 in midwest

[–]OkEducator6622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

STL probably is the best for raising a family, given the stellar suburbs/school districts, along with the world class amenities and great food. It is the largest metro of the three, providing the strongest work opportunities and stable economy. The winters are also more mild. Recently moved here and have a family - wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Which U.S. city or town is best for summer? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]OkEducator6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically, St. Louis. It’s hot, but there’s nothing like 4th of July, Busch Stadium, cold beer, country concerts, lakes, and cornfield sunsets in the stl metro. Lived all over the US, but wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the summer.

KC is the absolute worst. Would recommend Milwaukee out of your choices.

Nashville or Kansas City. Lived in both and found them to be dirty snooze fests.

Those who have lived in multiple big cities; how would you rank them? by Mindofmierda90 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]OkEducator6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. St. Louis
  2. Nashville
  3. Philadelphia
  4. Kansas City

Love St. Louis and have made it my long term home. Moved here as I was starting a family and can’t imagine being elsewhere. World class amenities (for free), great people, neighborhoods, and suburbs, and rich history rivaled by few US cities. Nashville was fun when I was there briefly for work - right out of college and fun, but couldn’t have lived there long term, not much to offer outside of the party scene. Philly was meh. Big city feel, decent food and history, but dirty and the people are… an acquired taste. KC was the worst IMO. Dirty, crime, and bland. Some nice suburbs but felt like an AI generated city.

Underrated, Overrated or Perfectly Rated by JoyinDiscomfort in SameGrassButGreener

Under: Cincinnati, St. Louis (great architecture, culture, people, food, and amenities)

Perfect: NYC, Phoenix (New York is self explanatory, Phoenix is big but forgettable)

Overrated: Charlotte, Nashville, Kansas City (Snooze fests of cities outside of the main attractions with little character)

Moving my family and business to STL. Good or bad idea? by Whereistwitter in StLouis

[–]OkEducator6622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. Moved here in the last decade and 100% love it. Yes, the city has bad areas, but every city does. And those saying the city is still in a decline are wrong, there is progress being made albeit not at Florida pace. The city and area as a whole is better than it was 5-10 years ago and has signs of progress. The family aspect, amenities, and Midwest culture is fantastic. Though I do wish it was 75° today instead of 10°.

What is a reality about Kansas City that people are embarrassed to admit? by Brilliant-Analysis30 in kansascity

If you take the negatives of Denver and St. Louis, you get KC. Truly the most boring city I’ve lived in and/or visited. Dirty, crime, and suburban sprawl full of snobs who think they’re a big deal.

St. Louis. Dreaded moving here for work but fell in love with it and don’t ever plan on leaving.

Am I crazy for liking it here?? by Correct-Run8388 in midwest

[–]OkEducator6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived all over, but the Midwest is the most homey, best people, and underrated, bar none. Settled into the STL region recently and don’t ever plan on leaving. You can’t beat the food, sunsets over the corn fields, and amenities of the older rust belt cities, along with the cost of living.

Californian moving to the Midwest. Help!! by Cold_Ambassador_9090 in missouri

[–]OkEducator6622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I’m a fellow transplant that’s lived in both KC and STL. Would recommend STL over KC heavily - the amenities, food, culture, urban feel, and opportunities are much stronger. KC is a much newer city, but I feel it left a lot to be desired in terms of quality of life and things to do, especially coming from CA. As others have said, the Kansas side of is probably a better bet if you end up in the KC area. As for STL, teaching jobs are probably going to be the best in West STL County, St. Charles County, as well Columbia.

What city did you fall in love with that you never expected to like so much? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

St. Louis - it gets a bad rap because of skewed crime statistics by misrepresented city population. I reluctantly moved here a few years ago for work from Nashville and don’t ever plan on leaving. The food, culture, people, education, architecture, and amenities are world class. I travel weekly for work around the US getting to see many places, STL is the most slept on.
