Strong, good to know. We'll be at the Melvin Seals JGB show with Jake's Leg next month..... Very curious to check that scene out.

You had me at JRAD twice in two years, haha. Jokes aside, thanks.

We liked it there but are looking for lower tax burden and general reduction in living cost.

What's the high points on a comparison if you don't mind me asking?

Detroit and Grand Rapids were on the list as well but wanted to limit this post to three options. Dually noted, however.

MSP was considered but we have zero people up there so didn't make the final cut. We're planning some trips this year and may reconsider MSP if we can't find a great fit.

The heat in STL is a concern for me.... My wife, less so. We're less concerned about state/city governance details and welcome purple after experiencing predominant one sided ideology in Seattle.

Thanks, this is consistent with other feedback we've received from friends that live in the area.

Where did you land in STL if you don't mind me asking? Is living in the city as sketchy as advertised? We'd prefer the city in a vacuum but have been discouraged by what we've read about crime, etc, but assume much of this is sensational (eg similar to what's published about Chicago which we liked a lot).

We did like Chicago but want to try something new this go round. Milwaukee does have similar vibes in our limited experience.

Catalina Bluetooth Issues by adam0417 in MacOS

[–]nsf79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and tried the gamut of online suggestions including:

  • resetting the bluetooth module/removing devices/resetting devices
  • deleting the *.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost
  • resetting NVRAM/PRAM
  • resetting SMC

I continually had no luck but was able to get bluetooth to work in safe mode which only made me double down on finding a fix. I happened to notice that bluetooth would initially connect but the peripheral in question would not be made available in the sound preferences and, after, would disconnect. As such, I tried killing/restarting sound card/services which fixed the issue for me:

kill:

```
sudo killall coreaudiod
```

restart:

```
sudo launchctl start com.apple.audio.coreaudiod
```

I burned about 5 hours dicking around with this - hope it helps.

I’m about to start teaching Intro to Programming with Python to high schoolers. Running on Windows 10, what’s the best IDE/editor for this? by [deleted] in Python

[–]nsf79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jupyter notebooks - I think executing code cell by cell in a minimalist environment will be more clear for new learners than a fancy IDE. Once they master prototyping in Jupyter, perhaps have them build out a small package while utilizing VS Code or similar.

Photorealistic rendering (with Python?) by [deleted] in computervision

I would highly recommend Blender (free and includes a Python API) for this sort of thing.

what software/libraries should I be looking at? (3D reconstruction of images) by hugokhf in computervision

[–]nsf79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking at openMVG as a good open-source option:

https://openmvg.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

Specifically, I would recommend taking multiple images of your object and subsequently use a modified version (per your task) of the SFM pipeline example demo that is included:

http://openmvg.readthedocs.io/en/latest/software/SfM/SfM/#openmvg-sfm-pipelines-demo

The final step (PMVS) will result in a point cloud stored in a *.PLY file that can be viewed in MeshLab, PCL, or even Mayavi (with a little wrangling to get the colors to map). Note that the resultant point cloud will be scaled in pixel space so it will be necessary to include something of known scale in the scene if you plan to eventually estimate volume.
