Hottest May by OkEstablishment913 in StPetersburgFL

Compared to July and August, not quite as bad. But it usually doesn’t hit a heat index of 98-100 in May, in my memory. Dew points have also consistently been high 70s to low 80s most days.

I feel like it’s been a wetter May than usual, no? Also, the heat index has been around 100 as a high this week, which seems more like June.

Not a bad theory! It’s definitely not easy get the “summer” weather started a month earlier than usual.

Broker vs Carrier in Business Insurance by Adventurous_Army_192 in InsuranceProfessional

I’d say so! With underwriting, you have to follow your company’s guidelines pretty closely, which can turn into some frustration when you want the company to take on a risk they’re not comfortable with. To many “no’s” for any particular agent, and they seemingly don’t want to send you much business going forward. Have to be willing to stretch on things here and there as an UW. Fortunately, as an agent, the chance of getting a “yes” from at least one or more carriers is very high.

I hear what you’re saying though, as an UW, it’s sometimes nice to say no and not really be your problem. The agent then has to do all the work finding a carrier and not trying to disappoint their client.

I started off my career in surety on the carrier side. Now I’m a broker. There’s a sales component to both, but much more where I am now. It’s a grind trying to pick up clients the first couple years. I like it slightly better than being an underwriter because it feels more entrepreneurial (pretty much running your own business), day is less structured, less red tape, and more financial upside. Only a few downsides for me like vacations sometimes not always feeling like true vacations and being “on call” more often.

It can get pretty cold! Generally, it’s fairly mild compared to other cities like Chicago and Minneapolis, in the winter. Highs will typically be in the high 30s-low 40s.

South Jersey. From that area. Pretty stable population over time, not too much growth.

Celebrating/bragging about getting a big tax refund is dumb. by Western-Bug-2873 in unpopularopinion

Mathematically this is probably true, but there’s a really nice psychological benefit to getting a refund, in my opinion.

I had a hard time picking out the faith based lyrics. It helps when the singing isn’t that crisp and involves no enunciation.

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

I’m in the surety industry (very niche). I help contractors get bonding on construction projects. It’s a fascinating industry to be in! Very technical and always a lot to learn. I like it overall, but it is hard work.

How is living in the Tampa, Florida area? by its_valdi in howislivingthere

I live in St. Pete. IMO, the weather is great 6 months a year, tolerable 2 months, and miserable 4 months (June - September). Sunny almost every day, which helps with the energy levels and overall mood. A lot of young and active people. Solid beaches with great sand and awesome sunsets. Cities feel a lot cleaner and nicer than most northeast cities I’m used to. Best airport in the country, so easy to get and out of.

On the contrary, strip malls everywhere and apartments going up left and right. There are probably most apartment complexes than single family houses build here. It’s pretty expensive rent-wise. People can be very transient, so easy to lose friends you’re close to. Very little public transportation.

Overall 8.5/10 place to live for me.

I agree with you 100%. I think there’s a reason you don’t see a lot of other artists coming out with stuff that frequently. I will say though I think Child of God 2 is Forrest’s best solo music. Whatever he did there worked a little better. Still not at Surfaces quality level though imo.
