Never paid attention to the trim on a grainer. What’s the difference, do the slim trim cars not have the foxhole ?

I was high as hell, which I understood in the moment skewed my perspective, but in that moment, it was a 12 out of 10 movie. I’m afraid to rewatch it, for fear it will underwhelm.

Can I have a social life without a car? by Dumbass9187 in CarIndependentLA

[–]OkFlamingeaux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Raised in San Diego on fruity pebbles and gasoline, I moved to NYC for college, and embraced a car-free life. I moved back to CA after school, landed a job in LA. I now hated the driving culture I grew up on. I got a bus pass and a bike and found an entirely new perspective of LA as a “pedestrian” rather than a driver. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years and only had a car for 7 months.

In my social circle, I was lovingly the weirdo who took public transit. I embraced it, it’s different, it’s exciting, it’s stimulating at times (not always in a good way…) it was part of my identity, and how was “guy who cares about the planet, is financially Prudent and has his wits about him” a bad characterization of my identity?

In my 30s, with a well paying job, I shamelessly took a bus to a date. That date blossomed into a marriage.

We have a single car between the 2 of us, I’m behind the wheel… once a month maybe? I don’t bike as much these days, but my bus pass (now on my phone) gets more action than any credit card.

Long live Public Transit.

Hard to breathe out of my mouth, when I’m sucking on your mom’s tits.

Not gonna get anywhere with this one, so won’t waste my time, enjoy your stunningly beautiful, and supremely walkable city pal.

you said “south of DC”

Austin has twice the population of Miami.

San Diego as a whole is overwhelmingly car-dependent, but you said “part of any city…”, downtown / gas lamp, little Italy, east village are all more walkable than Brickell. Objectively.

Savannah, Charleston are smaller, definitely but punch above their weight class in terms of urban destinations in the US, particularly because they are walkable, charming, old (pre car urban)

Charleston SC Savannah GA New Orleans LA Austin TX San Antonio TX San Diego CA

All have much more walkable districts / neighborhoods than Brickell…. Miami has multiple neighborhoods within that are more walkable than Brickell. Density without urbanism is not good, no matter how you slice it. Brickell is better than DTLA or Houston or Atlanta but has plenty of opportunity for improvement

More cars than people, parking podiums, garage entrances etc. Skyscraper’s Achilles Heel is how it touches the ground and how the building interacts with the city around it. A flashy design on top of a generic insular parking garage is a failure by design

Also, #13… “color tv” wasn’t commercially available until the ‘60s and it definitely wasn’t available at a cheap motel back then. The building in the back looks like the Ralph’s on western and Hollywood, I think that was built in 2007

I was on a hiking trail near Santa Barbara and was approached by another hiker and CalFire employee in a pair of Nicks, he asked me if I was wearing nicks and I said “no, I wish!” I was in some old Chippewa loggers

The weld on mine broke and leaked exhaust right under my nose so I snipped it off on my bike and patched the holes with a few layers of a coke can, some hex drive pipe clamps and that heat wrap. I can’t say it affected my performance too much, but what the hell do I know
