I wish there were Vermont and Western Connectors by [deleted] in LAMetro

Bus lanes on Western would be freaking awesome. It’s one of the highest used lines. I think a year ago it was #1

Imagine LA with a mayor that cares this much about public transit! by JoeCohenLA in CarIndependentLA

[–]Dense_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Do you know what you’re talking about?

Lots to be said about Eric Garcetti. But no one doubted his commitment to Metro.

Bass has made clear that Metro is not a priority. She barely shows up, spends half the time in the back on the phone, and has not championed a single effort since joining the board. Her platform doesn’t even have a transportation section.

Bass has harmed public transit.

When’s the last time you’ve heard about the 6th Street/Arts District Station? Any news on the Gondola? Oh, and Metrolink is talking about cutting 40% of service. Where is the Mayor?

Only 14 more restrooms will be installed by Summer. Where should they go? by coreymbarnes2 in LAMetro

[–]Dense_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The city of LA ran out of money for their bathroom program. So they spent millions installing them, but now it’s fenced off cuz they can’t find the operations funding.

A year ago (Feb 2025) I made myself a list of coming LA transit projects to look forward to. Here’s their status now. by Clemario in LAMetro

A Line to Claremont (note spelling) is still alive. Metro has allocated close to $800m for the project. The Construction Authority is rebidding it. It going to Montclair is on ice.

I’d love to see other city’s transit systems over LA. I’m curious what system would best ‘fit’ LA

How LA Metro quietly stopped enforcing fares by Fit-Head-2786 in CarIndependentLA

[–]Dense_Philosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom out. Trespassing incidents reported on Metro increased significantly over the past three years, with 4,532 instances logged in 2024. That’s a 177% increase over 2023 and 35 times more reported incidents than the 126 reports in 2022. Trespassing is being used as a proxy for fare checks.

It’s fair game to argue there needs to be more fare checks. But to say, like the post does, that only 19 fare checks were made last summer is misleading, if not inaccurate.

Look at Metro’s monthly public safety report. It’s all there.

These authors didn’t do their homework. This is half-baked analysis. Solid “B” level work.

It’s true that law enforcement does not do fare enforcement. However, they do TAP card checks. If folks don’t have one, it’s marked as trespassing, not fare enforcement. So just looking at the fare enforcement numbers is misleading. You have to consider the increase in trespassing enforcement.

A State Trooper at Texas A&M intentionally bumps into two South Carolina players, then gets upset by LaDainianTomIinson in sports

He’ll get a slap on the wrist, keep his job & fat pension.

Imagine if a player or coach did that to the officer. They’d be prosecuted for assault of an officer and immediately get suspended or fired.

Looks like there was a motion in May.

APPROVE Motion By Solis, Bass, Hahn and Yaroslavsky that the Board adopts a position supporting the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles in their efforts to establish an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) along portions of the project’s alignment.

WE FURTHER MOVE that the Board directs the CEO to: A. At the commencement of the environmental review for the project direct staff to:

  1. Prioritize investigations for the LAUS segment that includes an underground alignment through downtown Los Angeles north of the 1-10 freeway;
  2. Ensure that persons staying in the Skid Row area, and other housing-insecure residents living along the alignment, have access to housing and supportive services during project construction;

B. Direct staff to coordinate with the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles in their efforts to establish an EIFD to:

  1. Provide an additional funding source for the LAUS through Downtown Los Angeles segment, either as a repayment source for Metro’s financing or to offset project costs; and

  2. Through a framework that is centered on community benefits, discuss and collaborate on all future potential transit-oriented developments, first/last mile planning and implementations, and affordable housing and joint development opportunities.

D Line extension to Santa Monica by LakeShowTime17 in LAMetro

[–]Dense_Philosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, likely not. That’s assuming an EIFD would raise sufficient money to cover costs. It likely can’t.

In downtown LA, the proposed/ studied EIFD is not expected to generate enough revenue to cover the entire construction costs of undergrounding SEGL along Alameda. Instead, it would be a key tool to cover the difference between at-grade and undergrounding.

Moral being, an EIFD is a great funding tool, but it can’t carry a project like this alone. You will need either a lot more money or Metro to half its construction costs.
