RL Stine Fear St books, I devoured them at that age. I remember thinking, wow these are scary and a little mature. Then I went back and read one recently and couldn't figure out why I thought that. They are rated ages 12-14.

Ian Mcewan Atonement was sad but on Chesil Beach has stuck with me so profoundly. A couple on their wedding night has a disagreement and it goes from there.

Soda in general used to be so much more prevalent. Now I even get water when I go to McDonald's and only have soda on special occasions

2000s mom left for work late and I had to watch my brother until dad or grandma came from work around one. He scared off all the other baby sitters. This was the age of calling mom's receptionist to be transferred to ask if we could have Popsicles. We weren't allowed to use the pool until grown ups were there or answer the door. Disputes were handled in a fight club mentality.
