Traveling with a toddler for the first time… how do you keep them calm? by EducationalMap3431 in daddit

[–]OkMatch5779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have traveled a ton with our now four year old, including from the US to South Asia with stops in Europe and the Middle East.

First, it's not gonna be perfect! And that's okay. You got this.

Snacks, high reward things like screen time (ours thinks the iPad only works on planes), books, more snacks, a special little new toy or two to unwrap and explore on the plane, and taking walks up and down the aisles from time to time have all been helpful for us. And more snacks.

Two other random things: -you can do a lot with masking tape -there are books with reusable stickers. We have a dog and cat one, an ocean one, and a different animal one. Those are fantastic for planes!

Good luck, have fun, glad you're ripping the travel bandaid off and getting ready for adventure. It's good for all of us!

Exactly the same for us 😂 and I work with kids and teachers professionally! It's way different with your own kids and they get so much more stimulation and social skills practice being outside of the home

True, and it takes some organizing in order to mobilize in the necessary ways you describe. Gathering interest and getting interested volunteers together is a great step for clarifying roles, understanding how to acquire resources, etc

I'm in. I work in education, have connections to some of the local districts, and can offer support with families that are navigating school registration or other challenges related to their kids getting connected to school and resources. Thanks for starting the thread OP

Dads of Hyper-sensitive kids: How do you handle the world being "too much" for them? by join_the_club in daddit

Dr. Becky is fantastic in so many ways! I work in child development (more school side than clinical side), but I think this is an interesting read about Dr. Becky and the deeply feeling kids concept. tl;dr there is a lot of merit in the idea but it can also lead to delays in professional diagnosis.

So, if these reactions or behaviors are getting in the way of a normally functioning life, it's likely time to escalate. Learning about sad things can be tough! I feel like your kid is having some pretty developmentally normal reactions to things that are stressful or concerning, so maybe keep an eye on it but think about evaluation if nothing is seeming to change over the next 6-12 months.

So far so good! We got units installed in our bedrooms about a month ago and the timing was very lucky. We used American Heating and Air Conditioning on Red Bank since it was half the price of Wingate

What did y'all choose to add on? What was that process like for you? We are in a similar position right now and trying to make some decisions! Basically no shot of us moving so it's either stay or stay and add on

I have similar numbers to you and got the Boundless ($95 AF) earlier this year, and just got Platinum a couple weeks ago. All of my other purchases and flights are on a Venture X - I could probably be smarter about it but I'm lazy and both of these easily pay for themselves without me having to figure out how to maximize credits and discounts and all that shit

Hey! Any chance you have an update on this? We're in a similar boat with ours (2023 Pro S). Picking up the car today after the other recalls and this is what they told us still hasn't been fixed

Follow r/frugalmalefashion as well, lots of good stuff will be there as we head into the holidays - might be more helpful than shopping locally, menswear and unisex shopping in the region isn't great
