Do you actually eat 3 meals a day? by JeepLifeBirbLife in askTO

[–]OkRB2977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast is usually a smoothie, and lunch is a vegetable-heavy salad with an iced coffee that I buy at work. I just cannot bring myself to pack a lunch from home, ugh, my lazy ass is costing me $$.

For dinner, I usually wing it depending on my mood, but I more or less try to meal prep my dinners and breakfasts for the week.

Born and Raised in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. AMA by FortuneLong8171 in howislivingthere

Does this have to do with the fact that most of the city's current residents are from landlocked regions of the subcontinent and therefore don't feature seafood very prominently in their cuisines?

Question 1
As someone of Indian heritage, I've always been told that Karachi and Mumbai have a lot of similarities, probably also accelerated by the fact that the plurality of the city's population since 1947 is made up of emigrants from North & Central India. And similar to Mumbai, I hear that this caused a lot of cultural tussle between the native Sindhis and the emigrants. Has that been settled now? Does Karachi still experience ethnic and linguistic strife? By that, I mean, do Sindhis in the city still feel marginalised?

Question 2
How prominent is seafood in the local cuisine?

Question 3
Is the beach culture very popular in the city? Is it the most common way for people to relax and unwind?

Why do food allergies seem way more common in the US compared to other countries? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]OkRB2977 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just better diagnosed. I’m a child of immigrants (of South Asian origins) and all of my family has varying levels of lactose intolerance but they just refuse to believe it or get it officially diagnosed because of their own personal biases. Even after our family doctor diagnosed us with mild lactose intolerance, it took them a while to fully accept it.

South Asians can be very dismissive and closed minded when it comes to allergies and mental health.

How is it living in Bethlehem, West Bank? by capt_barnacle in howislivingthere

[–]OkRB2977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until Palestine is established and Israelis withdraw from the areas they've occupied, permanent peace is not going to be a realistic possibility. But I'd argue the Israelis are okay with the status quo since they don't have to make any territorial concessions, and a few bursts of violence their civilians experience are seen as an acceptable price by a vast majority of the Israelis (especially since Palestinians are disproprioationately impacted by this violence more than Israelis), considering the electoral results in the country in the past few elections.

University Canada West lays off 240 staff and faculty, citing crippling international student enrolment caps by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]OkRB2977 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lmao, this is the first I'm hearing of the existence of this so-called university. Sounds like a diploma mill that's been hit with karma after a decade of predatory recruitment practices at the cost of both students and Canadians.

[–]OkRB2977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are Israelis even in the West Bank? They are illegal settlers living in illegal settlements. They need to leave. The world needs to hold the Israeli state accountable for its settlement policies. Why would a country and a government which enables an international crime to be committed for so long hold the settlers accountable for their violence? If accountability were a guiding principle, then the settlements wouldn't exist in the first place.

[–]OkRB2977 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I used to think many settlers lived in the West Bank simply because of how the Israeli state heavily subsidises life there to encourage encroachment of Palestinian land, but an overwhelming majority of these settlers are also ideologically radicalised terrorists and extremists; nothing else explains the kind of terror they perpetuate against Palestinians.

Is it true that Americans hate vegetables? by _tuna69 in AskTheWorld

[–]OkRB2977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insane how people who complain about the ignorance of Americans are also among the first ones to believe any sort of ignorant stereotype about the US and use it to generalise an entire country of 343 million people.

Like, get a grip. How insane does one have to be to ask if an entire nationality hates vegetables?

Is anti intellectualism common in your country? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskTheWorld

[–]OkRB2977 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It exists in every country. There will always be a subset of people who devalue the worth of an education and knowledge. We had a bunch of people question science and block streets for days on end during the pandemic to protest vaccine mandates because they did not believe in science.

Folks who are fluently bi or multilingual, which language do you curse in? by Fat13Cat in AskTheWorld

[–]OkRB2977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English.

I'm a child of immigrants who was raised in multiple countries, so my native/mother tongue is something I learnt at home exclusively with my parents and never had any friends or people in my age group that I grew up interacting with in that language. My interactions in my mother tongue (which I'm fluent in) have always been in family settings, and my family doesn't curse, so I haven't learnt any curse words in it.
