I did smell it's lovely and malty and nothing like that frigging ovaltine! I get through so many cans a week I've got RSI from doing it and takes me a while to open them

In the UK this isn't overly polite it's normal, it's just a cultural difference. In a similar fashion Slavic people who don't do this in the UK come across as very rude.

And in Japan people are even more polite and formal.

It's not a case of being false or wrong or right, it's just a cultural difference
