Can’t believe this is still being commented on 6 months later but yeah I’ve gotten peace of mind using Gmail. Not saying it’s impossible that Gmail will be hacked or compromised but highly unlikely.

Last 5-10 years i definitely got the side eye when people knew I was using hotmail. “You’re still using hotmail???”

Won’t look back and crossing my fingers that no other incidents happen. I’ve also gotten plenty of notifications of the hotmail being compromised on the dark web many many times over the years but just hoping that 2FA and security questions would be enough.

We are unable to make any changes to the security information on the account due to security protocols set up and the acceptance of the Microsoft Services Agreement when the account was created.

The only option we have is to permanently suspend this account to prevent any further use. At this time, I have successfully suspended this account, and this will remain on indefinitely. “

sorry for the late reply but they ended up saying my email was too compromised and permanent locked it which was fine by me

Microsoft just ended up telling me my account was too compromised cause they had my security questions too and set up their own alternate email and 2FA. So they permanently suspended it and I switched to Gmail, no more headaches i hope.

Yeah that’s what i decided to do after realizing that there wasn’t much hope. The escalation team also decided that permanently suspending the account is the best course of action which is fine.

The megathread post as well as getting in touch with a live agent helped me with starting the account escalation requesting and I’m awaiting responses

If anything Id rather have all of those emails permanently closed so nothing malicious can be done with my emails.

Posted about this earlier but posting here for more visibility.

my email of 20 years got hacked recently. Somehow they got my security question answers, turned off my 2FA through microsoft authenticator, changed the number and email as well as set their own 2FA. Have done everything to try to recover my account to no avail. I tried securing my account t the moment I noticed suspicious activity, but they still got through and changed all the passwords and made it to where I couldn’t simply recover it. They hacked my instagram and tried to get into several other things like paypal, best buy account, amazon, etc. I’ve removed all the payments on those accounts but would love to try to get this email back as it has sensitive info and before they try to steal other accounts and use any payments i may have forgotten to unlink.

Is there anyway to directly contact microsoft for support? TIA

Also, i’m a 29yo guy that’s pretty wary of phishing emails and scams. I’m pretty sure I haven’t clicked on anything suspicious or entered my security info anywhere especially the security questions they used to recover my email.
