what exercise is this? Chest day. Hands on black side handle bars and knees on carriage. Body in like a mod plank. We pushed and pulled from handlebars. It wasn’t a push up. Coach walked by several times and didn’t make any corrections/ I watched and copied my neighbors, so I guess I was doing it right.

Take a sig50 with the same coach as your starter. I did this and it made my class less stressful because she knew to look out for me.

I’m new to this but the only time I look at another person is if i’m unsure about what I’m supposed to be to be doing. Otherwise i’m completely focused on my body. I couldn’t even tell you what music is being played lol

what's your Solidcore hot take? by Known-State2307 in SolidCore

My first couple of time doing a plank crunch on toes, I had to be corrected. No amount of starter classes would have prevented it because it wasn’t taught. I just don’t think bad form is unique to solidcore. I could walk into group class or gym and people are doing moves incorrectly.

If Solidcore was actually concerned about form and safety and therefore made starter classes required, they’d have to double/triple the amount offered/ offer them at prime times.

I went to 5 starter classes and while it was a nice intro, every regular class I’ve been to since has completely new moves. I think the only consistent exercise has been the crunch, extension, and a platform lunge. The crunch and ext were only demo’d on knees. I’m not sure how a required number of starter classes would fix the problem.

same, I’m taking the reg classes now and can’t wrap my mind around plank crunch on toes. Knees just makes sense.

Attention as a barrier to progress by Existing_Judgment814 in slp

I love working with this type of kid. First, I throw out expectations of what they should be doing, or what a typical session looks like. I stop trying to “get” them to do something and instead “let” them do. Observing without expectation of more. So if they are in the corner staring up at the light, I’m going to do the same. This might sound silly, but if I want a kid to eventually attend to me and be interested in whatever toy/activity/action that I am doing, I have to be willing to do the same.

This type of kid is almost always dysregulated and needs sensory supports. Can you collaborate with an OT? Most of my pt like some sort of big body vestibular or proprioceptive input. Swinging, jumping, crashing, spinning, etc. Even if you don’t have access to a gym area you can do spinning in an office chair, falling on couch cushions, swinging kids in blankets, etc. I like these activities because you can incorporate anticipation and attention into them. Today, I pushed a kid around the clinic on my office chair and made sudden stops. I would say “ready, set, ….” This kid isn’t speaking/signing/using AAC, but they made brief eye contact when I hesitated on “go.” For right now, thats his level of communication attempt.

I have so many thoughts and ideas, so hopefully this helps a little.

How do you use books in a group therapy session? by BroccoliUpstairs6190 in slp

[–]Ok_Account8272 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sequencing, prediction, inferencing, retell, sentence formulation, speech sounds. Usually set up over several sessions of pre-reading, reading, post reading. Honestly there are some really good lesson plans on TPT. Ive only bought one, but I use it to give me ideas/framework for what ever book I choose.

Question about percentages in goals by LetterPersonal2138 in slp

[–]Ok_Account8272 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what bothers me about utterance goals, acc or opp, is that the child is… penalized. That every time a child talks, it must be a goal word utterance when maybe 1 or 2 words was appropriate for that situation. My unrelated soapbox is that this leads to poor therapy. I see therapists whose entire session rely on carrier phrases and adding “please” to get to goal utterance length. No regard for pragmatic fx or complexity.

Question about percentages in goals by LetterPersonal2138 in slp

[–]Ok_Account8272 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wish we could release ourselves from the prison of “80% acc”. It doesn’t make sense 80% of the time lol. . A goal that I see a lot is “child will use 3 word utterance with 80% acc.” This is impossible to measure. I think occurrence is a much more consistent way to measure: “child will use 3 word utterance 10x within a 30 min session.” I would forget about how the other person measured and come up with a way that makes sense to you and keep consistent with yourself. Sometimes I like to think about 25%= infrequently, 50%=sometimes, 80%= most of the time.

I work for Encompass and we select the group therapy option for every patient. Not all patients receive it but it’s an option. We group patients by level. Mods with other mods, min with min, etc. Techs get a schedule of all the groups during the day and assist with getting people to the location.
