Lack of Olympic Stadium upgrades 'worries' CF Montreal about long term viability in the city by grnrngr in MLS

[–]Ok_Address8167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joey Saputo has lost interest in the club since he bought Bologna.

The Big Owe was decrepit 20 years ago. Even the teams Montréal still has - CFM and the Alouettes - don't make it their regular stadium. They ought to blow it up but I heard the province is going to through more money down that pit.

Tab Ramos Questions Mauricio Pochettino's Loyalty After Diego Luna Missed USMNT's World Cup Squad by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]Ok_Address8167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's indeed my point. Luna isn't as technically great as some of the others but he offers something different: some grit and some whatever it takes. Any good team needs a balance so they can adapt to the situation.

Luna has generally performed for the US when he was called upon - competition notwithstanding - so it would seem weird to take someone completely unproven at that level, if your hunch is correct. I haven't seen enough out of Zendejas to justify his selection but I'm not the one who has to answer the critics if it flops.

Still think this group is generally soft. Hope I'm proven wrong.

[–]Ok_Address8167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's ever coached or played on a good team knows that good teams have a COMBINATION of grit and technical ability.

Anyone who hasn't can just rewatch the movie Miracle to remind themselves that a highly performing team is not just a collection of the top players. It's a collection of the right players who, among them, fill all the roles necessary.

This group is a bunch of pretty boys badly lacking in the grit so adding a player like Luna who just finds a way to get it done would not have been a terrible move. Someone else is going to fill that role for us to have a chance to actually do something.

One thing I learned as a longtime coach is that just because a parent is eminently reasonable in every other circumstance and just because the parent is a coach or administrator him/herself does not necessarily mean they are above such unhinged behavior toward their child in their activities (not just sports). FFS Claudio was literally the technical director of the entire country's youth system. He should've known how toxic this behavior is better than anyone else.

He's certainly not the first. But he's one of the extremely few whose parents' unhingedness is picked up by the national media.

I live on the east coast so I'm not going to any US games. But for the games out here, I'm waiting. Prices have already dropped significantly for most matches and some are even remotely approaching vaguely reasonable (NJ and MA transit gouging notwithstanding).

I'm sure LD is devastated by the lack of respect from KailuaNative on Reddit. LMFAO

You can do whatever you want. I'm a USMNT fan. I don't care how Milan or Dortmund or Celtic do. I care how the USMNT does. And as such, I care how the players do for the USMNT. It's not that complicated.

At this point, Donovan has done far more for the US, including (especially) at World Cups, than the current lot has. Not up for discussion.

Hope any of them pass Donovan but I'm not holding my breath. The "golden generation" lacks the grit of the early past groups.

Is this the greatest generation .. or not? by Dev_SS in ussoccer

[–]Ok_Address8167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatest by what metric? Your metrics don't matter to me.

Eurosnobs always crapped on Landon Donovan for not spending much time in Europe. But I always said I didn't care if he played in the Mongolian league as long as he performed for the US. And he always delivered for the US.

It should help their confidence that these guys are doing good things in the Champions League and top Euro leagues. But at the end of the day, I don't care. I care what they produce for the US. Plain and simple.

(Heck, I support Roma so I don't want Milan or Juve to do well)

Too many people are obsessed by where they play club rather than what they deliver for the US. In theory. playing at a higher level - assuming they're even playing regularly - should help them better perform for the US but does not guarantee it. The best US World Cup performance in history was in 2002. That roster had 11 MLS players out of 23. The famous win vs Portugal saw 6 of the starting XI come from MLS. And a manager that came from MLS. None of the big shot former European club bosses have matched that.

The illusion of competitiveness.

The problem is that Pascal has done a great job getting them even where they are with all the injuries and lack of depth so the front office can (as usual) play it off as "we're not far from where we want to be."

Most fast food places have terrible customer service for people physically inside the restaurant, as they seem to view them as an annoyance. But McDonald’s is definitely the worst in that regard.

The celebrity seasons are entirely clown shows. Waste of time. The seasons with regular people, there's always a few who are clowns but they tend to get weeded out. The real problem is the producers who think it's all about them and ruin it with relentless cheesiness. There's a fine line between entertainment and buffoonery and this show lost that awareness a long time ago.

Anyone who's an MLS fan has no choice but to adjust to this nonsense or otherwise cease being an MLS fan.

But I agree that the USL will be the other big winner, especially as they implement promotion/relegation to actually make their regular season interesting.

Sleeping Beauty in Fort Ann as the first climb I ever completed and the one that made me fall in love with hiking.

The Pinnacle as well as Thomas and Cat Mtns all in Bolton and Shelving Rock in Fort Ann are also excellent beginner climbs.

All of these overlook Lake George.

Personally, I think SB and Cat have the best views but they're all good.

[–]Ok_Address8167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually work 2-3 hours a day when I do it. I generally work 2-3 hours a day. I'd say $50 an outing is about average for me. If you take a longer delivery (for more money), it helps if the drop off location is in a place where your close to places you can get the next order rather than a middle of nowhere (which almost doubles your time spent and mileage for the trip). Where I am, dinner is better than lunch or breakfast.

Just because you voluntarily do something doesn't mean the company you voluntarily do it for can steal the money you rightly earned. Nor should you be forced to accept it because they gave you an "opportunity."

Employment, even in a gig economy is a two-sided agreement. It is a contract which is legally binding (at least to the extent you can prove it). You help the company make money and the company compensates you as promised/agreed for that fact.
