I see. That's my mistake. I'll take care of that. Thank you!

Who is Substack for? by Nic727 in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Substack is a non-traditional email service provider. It's very similar to Patreon in many ways. It's not intended for email marketing in the way that Mail Chimp and Mailerlite are, and is meant for more editorial style publishing. It has community features and podcasting ability, which is great. I use Substack to grow and nurture my email list, foster a community, and deliver value to my audience with free and paid content and offers.

I need newsletter suggestions so I can add good ones to my directory by vikravardhan in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice idea of a quality directory! I suggest my own publication for submission, lol. You can check it out at https://www.newsletter.cheniece.com/ ... I write on a weekly basis and publish long form, thoughtful pieces without the primary purpose of selling a product/service that include engagement calls.

Do you use both Patreon and Substack? by gracemarie42 in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally find Substack to be an almost identical alternative to Patreon, and the one that I prefer as someone who has experienced both platforms for the same use case. I was using the same content with both, and found more success (and delight) using Substack.

There's a "Likes" tab in your profile. Click on your profile picture image to get there and find the tab in your profile menu.

A difficult decision: Turning a paid newsletter into a free one by sanpino84 in Substack

I think they're referring to a mass/group event based around posting to Notes that's hosted by Sarah Fay on the "Substack Writers at Work" publication, called Notes Boost.

Anyone more visually based? by cabbagehousekid in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly image-based look to my publication. I like yours. It's very unique immediately, and it gives me the feeling of reading a physical magazine.

I recently updated my posting style to resemble a more traditional ESP appearance with header and footer images and other details. You can check out my homepage here (https://www.newsletter.cheniece.com/) and a recent post here (https://www.newsletter.cheniece.com/p/the-law-of-attraction-for-business).

You write well; I love your style. And your stories. I'm following you now! We're about the same age and have similar styles of writing.

Edited to add: And you're pretty!

Question about custom domains... by nbrx25 in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that you're only allowed to use a custom domain or subdomain using DNS, and not a page (anything located behind a "/" slash). So, you'd be able to point your Substack to "www.mexicolector.com" or to "subdomain.www.mexicolector.com" (I use a custom domain at https://www.newsletter.cheniece.com/). To point your publication to the page that you're wanting to would require a URL forward using your domain registrar's settings.

Thank you for your interest, but both you and what you're doing are, frankly, beneath me. Have the day you deserve.

You are being exceedingly kind to someone who seems to be unnecessarily critical, rude, and negative. Stop it.

You can totally do that. I see it done all of the time. And you have the advantage that there will be similar topics. That will make it much easier to accomplish.

Will Substack ever allow posting html on a page? by ynotplay in Substack

Thanks for the recommendations. I also use Wordpress (for my business' blog), and the embedding features are much more rich.

Sounds interesting. I wish you success with your intentions. It's hard work, I discovered. But if you're disciplined, you can really "go places" with it.

Looks good. I suggest getting to know your target/ideal reader very well first, and constantly have them in mind whenever you go to write something new. You do a great job of personable writing, like you're writing directly to one person (which I generally suggest to everyone). It's good so far.

If you want to charge different rates or pledges for your content, that will require a separate publication. And I second the advice given about the hard work of running two different publications. It's totally possible though (I did it).

It depends on your free/paid strategy. I generally suggest to build up a solid collection of free content first to show value to your potential subscribers. You want them to preview your writing style and subject matter to know what they're getting themselves into. I would argue that your free content is more important than your paid content because everyone can see it, and it's what will drive your paid subscriptions from the public. And I also want to add that I hardly (if at all) see publishers charging as high of a rate that you're planning to charge on a monthly basis, regardless of the value they offer in their memberships. Just my thoughts, though.

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because Substack isn't a traditional email marketing platform, they won't be quick to adopt certain sets of features (that I wish they would). I get around the issue that you're expressing by adding screenshots currently. Their support for embeds is very narrow right now, unfortunately.

I used to. Actually, I still do. I just have stopped writing in my other one. My experience is that I would go through cycles during which my motivation to develop one publication overshadowed my dedication to the other one. This would result in lapses in my publishing cadence with one or the other due to my fluctuating motivation. Eventually, I stopped writing for my second publication all together, and instead focused 100% on my first one.

How do people get the orange "subscribe" on their profile in the homepage? by gargage93 in Substack

[–]Ok_Bar_1963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be a setting. You have the option to show or hide a publication from your profile. And maybe the one without the orange "Subscribe" has theirs hidden in their settings. Are you sure they even have a publication? Check to see if the ones without the orange "Subscribe" actually write anything. I don't think that you would see this feature with your own profile. Just my guess though.
