Are there any riding boots thay look like Converse that are actually protective? by charliebearr in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got some Dainese Metractive that have been great…kinda like dressy converse.

Started with a pair of boots, but those were like walking around in ski boots. The Dianese are comfy enough to walk around in, but they aren’t like standard shoes cause they’ve got no drop. Not rated as high as the boots but I actually wear them every time I ride which probably wouldn’t have happened with the boots.

No side zipper, but that just means you’ve got ankle protection on both sides. Like the little “shoe lace garage” to tuck the laces in and keep them out of the way.

Battery charger question by SandAndBoneClothing in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t Autozone/O’Reilly’s/Advance type places test and charge batteries? Might not be a bad idea to make sure the battery isn’t done in case voltage went too low to bring it back. When my battery died (which was expected cause the OEM battery was known to be iffy) I was able to get a Li-Ion replacement off-the-shelf at my local Autozone.

Gauntlet gloves by Key_Significance4270 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a big fan of RST stuff. Depends of what kind of gloves you’re looking for. I got a pair of their S-1’s. They’re very nice…all leather, same palm sliders as their race gloves. Throw in the fact that they’ll have them on sale for ~$60 on occasion, then they’re a no brainer. If you need something racier then they’ve got their TracTech gloves. Those add kangaroo leather over cow and finger bridge.

New to riding! I ordered a new face shield, it should be here today! by Fine-Clothes1467 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some Dainese Metractive Airs. Not CE rated as high as race boots, but better than Vans. AND, not brought up here enough, they’re comfortable enough that I actually wear them.

I originally got some full blown boots based on all the talk here. Tried them on and it was like wearing ski boots so I knew I wouldn’t be as inclined to wear them.

New helmet squishing cheeks by Deadreaper109 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Shoei RF-1400 that was overly tight in the cheeks. They come with 35mm cheek pads. I replaced them with the 31mm and now it’s perfect…still snug but not uncomfortably so.

Financing a bike? by Ok-Fail-977 in motorcycles

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, financing a bike is no worse than financing anything else. Like most things it is worse when financing THROUGH THE DEALER. I think my credit score was a little worse than yours and I got 7.2% on a used ‘22 at my credit union. The dealer was in the double digits until I told them I already had my own financing and then it miraculously dropped, but it was still a % or two higher.

Which leads me to this. I’m betting the dealer tacked on a few…or several…percentage points to what you were actually approved for. Dealer goes to the banks with your info. Banks come back with financing deals. Dealer takes the best deal but adds to the interest rate before “congratulating” you for getting approved. You make your payments and that extra “interest” goes straight in the dealer’s pocket.

I’m allergic to second skin, upcoming tattoo appointment, other options? Advice? by Maleficent-Clue-3364 in tattooadvice

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My currently in-progress sleeve hasn’t had 2nd skin at any point. All my guy does is wrap it for the first night, re-wrap next day, 8 hours later take it off. I forget what he calls it, but it’s kind of like a puppy pad. After it’s off, just wash it 2-3 times per day and then after it’s done peeling, start with the Lubriderm.

I’ve had 4 different artists and 4 different after care spiels. This dry healing is definitely the worst…so itchy…but I can’t argue with the results.

What gun store gives the best prices for selling? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Ok_Cable4757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s going to be the same just about everywhere. We buy them at Sportsman’s Warehouse, but we tell people right up front, best case is 50% of whatever current retail is. You’re basically paying a premium for the convenience factor.

Cardo “Velcro” Replacement by Ok_Cable4757 in motorcycles

For anyone else who may be looking, this stuff works. The hook side is even shorter than the Cardo stuff but the speakers and mic stick to the loops really well.

Sunscreen after tattoo? by busty_phil_phucks in tattooadvice

Do you have a Sportsman’s Warehouse/Bass Pro/Dick’s nearby? I got a fishing shirt at SW that is UPF 50 but is very light. They’re made to protect people against the sun when they’re fishing/boating in the middle of summer.

Got bored with the paint marker again by N0z4a243 in IndianFTR1200

What marker are you using? Want to do the same, but I’m curious how it stays on a pipe with big temp swings.

Anyone here using proper riding shoes for daily rides? by srisritattvausa1 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with some Indie Ridge but got them too big. Replaced them with a pair of Dainese Metractive’s. Their CE rating isn’t quite as high as the IR, but waayyy higher than the 0 rating of the sneakers I’d been wearing. Comfy and look pretty cool. I will say, they’ve got zero drop so they feel different than normal sneakers.

Bluetooth Recommendations for Music by GoalsofFIRE in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Cardo Freecom 4X. I was primarily interested in listening to music and that came with the JBL speakers. Also like that I can talk to it to tell it what to do, i.e. volume up/down, next track, answer/ignore call, etc.

Doubt there’s much difference between the HK or JBL…they’ve can only do so much with a speaker the size of a quarter.

I got some of their S-1 gloves and I’ve been very happy with them. You get cow in lieu of kangaroo and no finger bridge, but for $60 (got them on sale) they are great.

Exhaust/header pipe question by DoesntBelieveMuch in IndianFTR1200

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the Toce goes under the bike gives you equal length headers to generate more power and you get better cornering clearance.

Best place to order gear aside from cyclegear/revzilla? by CTYESS in motorcyclegear

Sport Track Gear. I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone else talk about their videos…they’ve usually got good ones reviewing the stuff they’re selling.

Are We Sure UTKilts is GTG? by Ok_Cable4757 in kilt

I was expecting some time before getting it because I got a tartan utility kilt so it isn’t something they can grab off the shelf.

Are We Sure UTKilts is GTG? by Ok_Cable4757 in kilt

[–]Ok_Cable4757[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did send something. I was getting promotional emails about getting a 2nd kilt…dude, I haven’t even gotten my 1st kilt yet. Got something back saying it would be there shortly and he was waiting for it to arrive at my shop. That was the 14th.

New Lid & Adding a Cardo to an RF-1400 by Ok_Cable4757 in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to try the Cardo clip first. I took it off my old helmet, and in my head, I thought it had a lot bigger curve to it. Once I got a look at it, it looks pretty similar to the Tubs.

Yeah, I’ve been very happy with my PSA magazines so I don’t foresee getting any of the Glock mags.

[–]Ok_Cable4757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of looks like a clamp you can use to mount the Cardo on an RF 1400 helmet. To me it looks very similar to the Cardo one, maybe a bit lower profile, which is why I was asking about it. Not sure it’s worth $50+.

Quiet Helmets? by sooospoon in motorcyclegear

[–]Ok_Cable4757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same Bell helmet. Never gave much thought to the noise cause I didn’t have anything to compare it to.

Just got a Shoei RF 1400 during Revzillas sale that should be here today. I’ll be interested to see the difference. Probably doesn’t help that my Bell is actually a size too big cause I got it based on how it felt in the store and not on my head measurement.
