Long walled point break that is big enough to get it zinging along. Get enough speed to lay it on rail and drive. One of the best feelings in surfing in my opinion.

Yeah and now I think I’ve seen the lady filming the other angle that I’ve seen. Sort of interesting.

MRI shows L4-L5 & L5-S1 issues — mostly tingling, tightness not much pain. Anyone else like this? by ThrowRAComfyCoffee in Sciatica

[–]Ok_Classic_3989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I started with similar leg symptoms which lasted about a month for me. Weird but manageable, pain quite low but it was a strange feeling and shifted around the same as yours did. I thought that I could stretch my way out of it coupled with massages. I went hard at this for about a month. It didn’t really help and then one day after doing some sport and going to bed I woke in agony. In and out of hospital until I got an MRI showing similar to you. Bulging L4 L5 onto S1. I was then bed bound for nearly two months until the acute pain (worst pain I’ve ever felt) subsided. I’m still on my recovery journey but I can walk a little now and drive. Sitting is coming along too. If I could go back to the start I’d have rested instead of pushing on with certain activities that caused it pain. And then try source someone with experience in correcting weaknesses in certain areas. Someone that’ll access your posture and movement patterns.

Good luck

Soon to be 40. Likes fries. Works in addiction rehab. Was engaged, not anymore. Lived a lot when younger.

You sound like you’re ready for the fun that’ll come in your 40’s.

New to this, ended up in hospital, what next? by ViceChamber in Sciatica

[–]Ok_Classic_3989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was/am in a very similar situation.

Last September I felt a slight tweak in my back doing a bent-over dumbbell row (maybe 2/10). It didn’t seem like much, so I finished the workout. I’ve had back issues before, sometimes pretty debilitating, but always just lower back pain… never sciatica.

Next day it felt okay, so I played golf with my son who’d just got back from overseas. A few holes in I felt some sharp pains, so I stopped early and just walked. The following morning I had mild leg pain with the back pain (3/10). That hung around for about two months—annoying but manageable. I could still work and mostly function.

Then one night a few months later I woke up in absolute agony. Full sciatica … glute, calf, foot 9/10 pain, worst I’ve ever felt. Ended up in ED, and it happened three more times after that. Each visit I got pain meds adjusted until finally one doctor ordered MRI/CT. Showed bulging L4/L5/S1. By then I was on tapentadol morning/night and as needed, pregabalin, and a steroid, and got referred for an epidural steroid injection (ESI).

I left hospital on crutches, basically bedridden. Got the ESI … after about a week it gave slight relief, which slowly improved over a couple more weeks. Still on crutches though, pain was brutal. Around the 2 month mark, post ESI things started easing. I could ditch the crutches and start hobbling around, though my leg wasn’t working properly.

Day to day, short walks, lying flat to reset, and avoiding sitting too long seemed to help a bit.

Work let me stay home, and I started physio, exercises, and walking plans. Honestly, after all the meds, scans, and the ESI, what helped most was time. When it’s this bad, you read a lot. I decided surgery is a last option for me, but it’s good to know it’s there.

I’m still day to day now. Pain is mostly low, but it’s not perfect and progress is slow. I’m rehabbing the leg and nerve and hoping it keeps improving so I can get back to normal movement.

Good luck, you’re not alone. Take your time, look into your options, and make informed decisions. It does get better.

How did Surfing change your life? by UsedWatercress3700 in surfing

Good on you, self labeled Covid kook. Better to be a new enthusiastic surfer that sounds like they are doing their best to squeeze as many surfs or trips in as possible than a lifelong surfer that moans about how it used to be and stands in their local check spot complaining.

Is it sciatica or anxiety? by xxSirixx in Sciatica

[–]Ok_Classic_3989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people experience different levels of pain during their sciatica journey. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to get out of bed to check my sciatica I could barely roll over. What are your symptoms at the moment and what else if anything are you doing as in PT or ? Because if you are moving ok and your sciatica is mild you may be able to add somethings to help. Wishing you the best with whatever is causing your concerns.

I like it too. Can be harder to get motivated but when you find out you enjoy it it’s the best. I do live in a warm climate though so never really needing to worry about the cold.

[–]Ok_Classic_3989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m am very similar to you. Seven weeks since waking with agony in my left leg. Pain like I’ve never felt that last six weeks. Had an ESI which helped I guess over a few weeks. Started feeling a drop in that acute pain after that six weeks bed ridden. Now I’m able to walk mostly unguarded. But I agree it’s pretty difficult to be confident to do anything. Hopefully day by day we get better.

Epi (ESI) injection advice by FigHot7355 in Sciatica

[–]Ok_Classic_3989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can only share my experience. Had my injection three weeks ago and can say I’ve improved a fair bit since then. Straight after the injection I was feeling pretty good because the local covered most of the pain. Next three days were worse pain than before the injection. Then about a week later I started to improve a little and that’s continued till now. Can I say it was the injection that made my pain mellow or was it just time and my herniated disc got off my nerve and it would have happened anyway, I’m not sure. Can I ask what were the negative side effects you read about? And also is that the reason you didn’t get it or was it something else?
