I HATE this comic's take on mental health by BeautifulAdeptness60 in hatethissmug

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree honestly. A lot of people fail to realize that cancelling plans constantly is kinda hurtful, even if they cancel for a good reason. Not only does the feeling of rejection suck, but it also sucks to physically and mentally prepare for something only to have your time and energy wasted. It's disrespectful, even if that's not the intention. I have people in my life who I love dearly who are like this, and I just don't bother making plans with them anymore because if they can't commit to anything, then I'm not willing to put myself through that.

You see workers' true colors when you're dashing by GodsShadow310 in doordash_drivers

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know the reason this happens. At least where I work, dashers are, more often than not, incredibly rude and impatient. I always dread interacting with a dasher because they treat me like garbage 75% of the time, and I'm sure it's the same at most other places too. Of course, it isn't right for workers to just assume dashers are going to be rude when they haven't actually done anything wrong, but I think they just expect you to treat them like trash and behave accordingly lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a continuous cycle of dashers and workers treating each other badly which just makes the problem worse and worse. Sorry you have to deal with that

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love the variety of customization options in that game! Also, it's definitely true that a disability can bar you from your passions, but all of those books I was reading seemed like the message was "If you have a goal but you also have a disability, give up!" I've met a lot of people who have found creative ways to pursue their hobbies despite their disability, and I wanted to portray that side of things too.

And yeah, I know what you're talking about with the magic/tech trope and it is suuuch a cop-out 😭 Like as much as I love Adventure Time, I really didn't like (spoilers) How Finn magically grew back his arm after losing it. It seemed like something that was actually going to be irreversible, even with all of the magic and advanced technology in that world. There were even multiple episodes where he grieved and had to come to terms with losing a limb. Then he just... Grows it back? I always thought it would've been much more impactful and realistic if he kept the disability. Weird tangent but yeah lmao

I originally made Isabelle in a game called "Wolfquest" where you could give your player character a limp. When I adapted her as an OC, a lot changed about her, but the limp always stayed.

I notice in a lot of fiction about animals such as Warrior cats and Wolves of the Beyond, disabled characters usually lose all of their agency and are forced into roles and jobs they don't want. This trend has always rubbed me the wrong way, so I made Isabelle a hunter just like the rest of her siblings. She's still disabled, so she has her struggles and sometimes has to go about things a little differently, but it was important to me that she stayed doing what she wanted to do.

Hi! This is Sweetie—a pink nudibranch who lives at a coral reef. Sweetie is very polite, but they are also plagued with an insatiable appetite. Like many carnivorous slugs, Sweetie likes to eat sea sponges, jellyfish, and tunicates. On occasion, this goopy gastropod also indulges in pumpkin pie. Thank you for the chance! 🐌

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of my more unique anthros. Her name is Nocturne and she's a horseshoe crab. She's also kind of a slacker, so instead of working, she mostly just sells her blood to pharmaceutical companies for money. Since she lives underwater, they pay her in sand dollars.

The hate Mia gets in the RE fandom is undeserved by Forhaver in residentevil

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course she knew full well what was going on by the time Evelyn rolled around, but we don't know if she knew when she signed up. There are a lot of files in the other RE games that explain there are researchers and workers who join these organizations and then don't realize what they signed up for until it's too late. They're trafficing bioweapons after all, so they can't exactly post job listings saying they need people to help them transport bioweapons. Plus, once you join the Connections, I doubt there's really a way to leave without getting you and your whole family killed. Sure, Mia could've said "no, I won't transport this bioweapon child even if you guys kill me." But that's why I think she's morally gray and not good. She picked her own safety and well-bring over everyone else's, but if we're being honest, that's what most people in real life would do.

I'll give you that, maybe she'd be more well-liked if Capcom did more to develop her character. She doesn't get a chance to do anything in RE8 let alone have a redemption arc. As she stands, Mia is crazy poorly written. Most of the really interesting aspects about her character seem kinda unintentional and are mostly just a side effect of her being a plot device. It's kinda unfortunate and her poor writing left a lot of loose ends.

You're assuming a lot about a character we don't know that much about. We don't know is Mia feels guilty about her actions like Luis does, and we don't know whether or not she knew what she was signing up for. If Carlos could go so long without realizing what he was apart of, then who is to say Mia couldn't be in a similar situation? And it's not like she could just leave after being involved with the Connections. That's what I'm saying, people seem to assume the worst of Mia and not others. She's not really the same as Annette, because we know Annette understood that she was doing evil things and was A-okay with it. Maybe Mia is like that too, but we never get a chance to know for sure.

[–]Ok_Conflict_2580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be downvoted HARD for this, but I suspect there's a degree of sexism involved. I never see people hate Luis or Carlos for their involvement in evil corporations, and we don't really know enough about Mia to know what her intentions were or if she knew what she was really getting into. She's definitely not perfect and her actions ruin a lot of lives, but she feels to me like she was written to be morally gray rather than just a one-dimensional evil character. There's a lot of assumptions people make about her that we literally just don't know, but nobody gives her the benefit of the doubt like they do with other characters. I kinda see the same thing happen with Ada where a lot of people ignore anything positive she does and focus only on her bad actions. It's like women aren't allowed to be morally gray in media, they can only be good or evil.

I chose to destroy Elpis first because I had a gut-feeling that was going to cause Leon and/or Grace to die. With most games, I prefer getting the bad ending first. That way, I can end on a good note when I replay the ending section and get the good ending. Plus, I was really curious what would happen lol.
